Would you buy regularly from microbakery near school?

Hello there. I live in a quiet residential area very near a primary school. I would like to start microbakery from home, baking predominalty to order for collection, opening on Thursdays and Fridays around school drop off and pick up time. Would you buy bakery goods when doing school run if you liked the products and were happy with the price?

Yes I buy bread from the bread van at the community hall up the hill. Not every week but maybe 1-2 times a month and I know others do more regularly.

I popped into a micro bakery on my way back from an errand this week. The only reason I didn’t buy a cake was because I checked the ingredients and they were UPF, despite apparently being baked in a home kitchen (mono diglycerides of fatty acids!). If it was real home baking I would definitely buy regularly.

What kind of baked goods? Fresh bread maybe,cakes, sweet pastries and brownies etc No. It's bad enough with the ice cream man pulling up outside of the school gate all through summer, children don't need sugary snacks straight after school

If I was happy with the bread and price, yes.
Micro bakeries are expensive around here. More than I spend on a school run.

Not these days - hygiene, I bake every Sunday, buying cakes at home made prices feels like a luxury now when I can buy biscuits or cakes at Tesco.

Thank you for all your replies. In terms of products - primarily breads but also some buns and sweet pastries to widen the selection. My target customers would be parents collecting pre-ordered goods on the way from school drop off or before the school pick up. I would probably carry small amount of product for drop ins.

I would buy proper bread.
Not more sugar/UPF stuff.

Proper bread - absolutely! If you offered it I'd probably buy 2-3 times a week if it was well priced!

Supermarket bread is our biggest UPF intake but I'm just not in the right place to make my own at the mo.

No, I don't buy food from people's houses. Food hygiene cert or not. I don't know if they have animals, smoke or what their house is like. I wouldn't, sorry.

Get yourself a little cart and take it along to pick up/drop offs as many days a week as you can. You’ll be amazed how many people will pick up a loaf.

Get yourself a card reader too.

No, if I want baked goods I normally add them to my weekly Morrisons delivery.

I couldn’t be arsed to pre-order baked goods like this. I’d either get things in my regular shop or impulse buy occasionally when I see things. There’s no in between where I want the job of planning and ordering ahead from a niche vendor for something as basic as bread and buns. You might do better supplying local coffee shops and such businesses who want to switch up their cake suppliers. But you’d have to be competitive and it could get unfun fast.

Give it a go. If you are there regularly Thursday and Friday for a term I'd guess quite a few will have a think and build it into their weekly routine.

I do an online Tesco shop each week but never buy bread there. I either go to Gails for proper sourdough or go to Waitrose for the same. If you were selling this, I'd buy it plus some treats and a coffee.

That said, I also don't do the school run as I'm at work by then. So if you are in an affluent area where lots of mums don't work that would be fine. Or if you can deliver? Lots of people don't work Fridays so your plan may catch people who do the school run once a week.

By treats, I mean cinnamon buns, brownies, ideally for me with nuts in, or muffins for the weekend. Edited to add, sourdough pizza dough!
