Would you buy regularly from microbakery near school?

Hello there. I live in a quiet residential area very near a primary school. I would like to start microbakery from home, baking predominalty to order for collection, opening on Thursdays and Fridays around school drop off and pick up time. Would you buy bakery goods when doing school run if you liked the products and were happy with the price?

I agree with this. I’d buy impulsively or I’d get it from my normal shop.

I don’t think I would either. It sounds like a dressed up version of these cake sheds that have appeared over the last year, which are generally overpriced tat, and my immediate thought, perhaps unfairly, would be that this is the same sort of thing.

If you were running it somewhere not near a school and not at pickup time I’d be more interested, though - I don’t want other people’s kids mauling and sneezing over everything before I’ve had a chance to even look at it.

Would you perhaps instead consider local markets? I’ll always take a look at bakers there, and almost always buy something.

Are people really so concerned about food hygiene that they won't buy freshly baked bread? Bread is cooked in a hot oven which will 100% kill off any bacteria or other organisms. And it needs to be sold fresh, so there's no time for any new bacteria to develop on the cooked bread. I'm fairly lax about this sort of thing but even so, freshly made bread is the last thing I'd worry about from a food hygiene perspective.

I love the idea, but I'd want to take my child to your shed and she pick something out as a Friday treat. Pre ordering isn't so exciting.

Yes! We had a micro bakery near us during Covid. Their bread was fantastic and I used to go out of my way to get it as it sold out quickly. Sadly the family moved away but if there was another I would definitely buy from it.

Cake sales are not remotely the same thing - home baking businesses have to be inspected and hygiene checked just like a high street bakery does.

I wouldn't but unfortunately previous experience makes me a bit wary. My neighbour had a filthy house. She paid someone to call in twice a day when she was on holiday to feed her pets. The woman was so distressed she came to my door on day two and asked me if I'd go in with her. I obviously didn't want the animals to go hungry so I went with her. The smell was horrific, it was obvious one of the kids was a bed wetter as the smell from upstairs was terrible plus smell if the animals. The kitchen was disgusting.

She was well known locally for her baking and sold cakes at playgroup and was paid for celebration cakes. I never touched them once I'd seen her kitchen.

I'm sure most home bakes aren't the same but how would I know?

Social services knew before I did. I used to wonder why the social worker did her meetings with them sitting on the front wall. Once I'd been in the house it made sense

No I don’t buy from cake sales ever. Where I did have to donate a cake once I bought it back immediately
