Would you take 4yo to gp with a headache?

2 night ago 4yo woke up twice saying his neck hurt. (Didn't think anything of it as he often wakes up with aches and pains and is always fine in the morning.)

Later that night he was awake for nearly 2 hours with a really bad headache and feeling as though he was going to be sick. (But wasn't) Gave him painkillers.

In the morning he seemed okay but said his head hurt a few times but seemed fine.

Last night, he woke up again with a headache, went back to sleep but woke up again and hour later with his head ache worse and needing painkillers.

He's otherwise well. Is going to the GP and over reaction?

I took my DD for cranial osteopathy when she was about 6 weeks on a recommendation as she would cry continuously for hours on end. The CO said that it was common in C-Section babies that they could essentially have a prolonged headache as their skulls don't go through the same sort of squashing together and unsquashing as a VB. Anyway, first session, she went to sleep in the car on the way home for the first time ever!

I'd already had made the phone call to 111 because that many headaches at that age isn't normal.

Take him, this is unusual for a 4 year old. Get it checked asap

I’d push back on the “too young” thing: my DS started taking Pizotifen at around the same age- it was transformative

My eldest started with migraines at 4. If nothing else it’s noted with GP from the get go.

being too hot in bed was one of his triggers, could be similar with yours? Keep water bottle by his bed, light clothing and duvet and hope it’s something that passes

Push back on this! Mine was medicated with pitzotifen from age 9 due to his migraines. It was life changing for him! Weaned off at 13 and now at 16 he’s had 1 migraine in 2.5 years

And how do they know that?

I wouldnt trust that

How long has your child had aches and pains. That isnt normal in a child
They need urgent blood tests

The doctor looked behind his eyes and said there wasn't any pressure there.

Anyway. He's woken up this morning with a headache and has vomited. I'm just waiting to see now if it's just a bug.

Can you take him to a different GP at the practice? The headaches and now vomiting are concerning.

Hmm, if not a bug I'd still be worried about migraine given the family links.

I would go back to the doctor (or a different one) because headache and vomiting as soon as he wakes up is always a cause for further investigation, especially as he's under 5 (at least it is in my country)
