Trying to do some paperwork for a new job and it’s impossible. Download this app. My pc won’t accept the app. Try on my phone. Make an account. Change password. Try to open training doc. Enter password. Oops password not accepted. Try to change password. Now not being sent new link. This is toooooooo hard. No support as all remote. I hate tech I hate tech I hate tech.

Literally a dozen emails with so much info on them. I’m so confused and I feel this should
be done on-site. It would have been done onsite 10 years ago. 🫣☹️😢

Me too , however this is our world and we can't run 😂

Katisha · Yesterday 15:02

I totally agree. Its spiralled out of control and doesn’t seem that anyone checks the user experience

LarksAscending · Yesterday 15:03

I’m 31 and I agree. The constant passwords, authentication layers, extra apps, additional texts etc to access things drives me insane. And then they make you change your Pw every few months.

One of my most complicated to access is my bloody library account…. Nobody is hacking that!

My university also sent me a new academic support detail document - requires a password, I don’t know which one because I’ve never used that before for university so reset, like you no email comes through. So now I just can’t access it…

Theseagullsarenowclouds · Yesterday 15:05

I nearly cried in the bank yesterday when they said I couldn't apply for a loan with bank statements passport etc and had to do it on line. I'm sick of excess tech.

OhamIreally · Yesterday 15:06

I work in tech and I agree! Trying to log on to an Iberia account yesterday, called them twice, they sent links, cleared cache set password according to criteria oops error, tried on safari- error. Called them they said try Google Chrome same thing. They logged a ticket with IT.

mindfulmoaning · Yesterday 15:07

I agree!
I cannot cope with all the usernames and passwords anymore and I’m under 60.
it puts me off moving my ISA to a better rate and applying for things.

RedTagAlan · Yesterday 15:07

When you say onsite, do you mean home or office ?

Anyway, what I do is keep a spreadsheet, and keep the "non critical" passwords on there. And password protect your spreadsheet of course.

That is what I do. And I am sure someone will say NOT to do that.

KojaksLollipop · Yesterday 15:12

I’ve forgotten the password for my personal email AGAIN and I simply can’t be arsed to reset it AGAIN. I’m sure I wrote it down after the last time I did it but can’t be bothered to look for it. I might do it tomorrow. (I have spent the past 25 years as a data and insight analyst for a leading technology company so have some major technical skills, lol)

I have tried this a hundred times but forget to update it, fgs! I follow a theme in my passwords too, one which can’t be broken but it doesn’t help!

I'm the same. It's relentless. I have recently had two job offers , accepted the first but then a better offer came along so two lots of dbs applications, payroll forms, health forms. None of which have worked smoothly. Just makes me want to give up. DBS check now delayed, so delaying the start of the job and I'm just so anxious that I did something wrong on the application. Just wish i didn't have to work at all and could just retreat from modern life !. If it weren't for my dh working in IT and helping me with all these things I would be totally doomed. Even my last manager struggled with sending back the reference form as it was so tricky to edit etc.

Miffki · Yesterday 15:16

I'm not at work but agree. Am sick of the constant security codes, email pass keys, apps to do anything.

Soon you'll need a 5 digit pass code to wipe your arse.

suburberphobe · Yesterday 15:16

Yea, me too.

I need one of those books "Tech for Dummies"....

crackofdoom · Yesterday 15:19

Not me sitting by the side of the road in a new car the other day, trying to buy the cheapest insurance the meerkats had previously found for my on my phone...navigate to the quote page...."Buy now"....OK, now you must log in, we'll send you a one time code...great, no password! Navigate away from the screen to open up emails to get a code, navigate back to the screen....nope, it's closed, have to start from scratch....log in....nope, it won't accept the code I've just retrieved...rinse and repeat about 3 times....I ended up just calling the insurance company.

Yes, I must admit I just stick with the two banks I have been with for years, I can't face opening another bank and all the checks and passwords.

Please don't do that. You need a password manager like Keepass etc. When I set up a new password it asks if I want to save it to Keepass, it generates random passwords, I can share them securely with my husband and on some websites it autofills the password for me when I am logging in. I just use my thumb print to show it's me, on my phone.

Yup. That's why I keep it right on my desktop instead of hiding it away. Then I email it to myself so I can have it on all devices if I need it.

I think I can hear an IT manager screaming at me now through the screen :-)

Ihateboris · Yesterday 15:24

Can I join the club? I'm 55 and a total luddite. I absolutely hate technology 🙃

Flyingintotheunknown · Yesterday 15:25

Yep me too. Sick to death of constant passwords and two/ three step authentication. Sick of having to create an account for EVERYTHING! Then the company who’s app you download start spamming you with daily pointless emails about what’s happening in their company.
Sick of being logged out of stuff after I have ticked the box saying “keep me signed in.”

If you have an iPhone it has this automatic “create strong password” thing that pops up every time you have to create a new password for anything you sign up to and if you happen to press it by mistake it creates some extremely long jumbled up password that you’re never going to remember so you either have to go back and delete it and then select keyboard to create your own password or you end up creating a password by mistake that you never asked for! Then can’t get into your account so have to change the fucking password all over again!

And I’m absolutely pissed off with pop up ads and other daft shit along with the “accept cookies” shit that pops up on every single bloody bastard website I visit too!

I get why a lot of this needs to be done to keep everything secure and personal information and accounts safe but I wish they would find another way to do it! Because it’s getting too much now.
The bloody adds popping up though everywhere while you’re in the middle of reading or looking at something is irritating! Especially when the page refreshes or scrolls back upwards automatically when you click the cross to get rid of the add! And why do companies think we should pay to use their site ad free. Could you imagine subscribing to all this shit for everything!!

Theolittle · Yesterday 15:25

My fella’s an IT consultant and he agrees!

There are some very badly designed systems out there too. So don’t beat yourself up!

Crafta · Yesterday 15:28

I do use Apples password manager and have connected the iMac, iPad and iPhone so the 2FA codes appear on what I'm using and it autofills it all for me, even with doing as much as I can to automate it all, it still wears me out, I'm in my late 60s though.

peakygull · Yesterday 15:28

Another who works in tech and agrees. The amount of passwords we have now is totally unsustainable, they’re not secure. Companies thinking they’re being clever asking for longer or more complicated ones but just causing worse behaviours in users re-using passwords etc, but what do they care, their back is covered. There are easier and more secure ways of authorising and authenticating.

What also pisses me off is apps or websites demanding logins for banal things, you don’t need to log in, they just want you to for tracking and data purposes.

KojaksLollipop · Yesterday 15:29

It turns out, my theme is so unbreakable, I can’t even break it myself, the person who created it, ha ha!

I can hear the gods of passwords rumbling!! 😁

Miffki · Yesterday 15:29

All my passwords are the same but different.

So i chose a memeorable word and number, like fizzy24
Then my possword for anything would be the place/app with a captital first letter and then that

So tesco would be Tescofizzy24, Asosfizzy24 etc

Its obscure enough to be secure but I always remember it

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Yesterday 15:30

I email any passwords I have had to create to myself immediately with the name of the company or whatever as the subject so I can search for it.

Oh, and I don't write the password down, I'll write it as a clue, which sometimes takes me a while to get so anyone who hacks my emails hasn't got a hope!
