Hi , am 62 and need to start doing weights! just know that I will not go to a gym - and - I also get bored easily / distracted.
Does anyone know a good you tube weights session please . There are so many!
Also - is it ok just to ‘ tone’ - using light ish weights- or do I have to actually build/ grow muscles.
I hate
exercise and i really need to force myself! Thanks!

You won't build muscle by 'toning.' Have a look at Stacey Sims' content on Instagram & YouTube. Or read up about how you build muscle - generally it's a slight caloric surplus, a fair bit more protein than I imagine you eat now, and gradually challenging (stressing) your muscles with something called "progressive overload." You stress a muscle to failure or very near (by weight or number of reps) and in response to the failure, the muscle repairs by growing more muscle tissue. Instead of failure, maybe think of 'reps in reserve' - that is, how many more reps of that exercise at that weight could you do? If it's only 1 or 2, then you are close to failure, and that will have the effect of building muscle.

There are lots of free programmes hurtling around the internet, but it'll be slow. I took up lifting heavy weights at age 58, but it took me 6 years to get to be able to back squat the equivalent if my own weight, and get a 100 kilo deadlift.

But I have visible muscle & am very strong now, in preparation for getting into my 70s and 80s.

Just noticed you said you hate exercise. So you need to find a form f exercise you might come to enjoy, because otherwise, what is the point?

This might be where a gym, which offers group classes, could help - it's more social, you get the input of a qualified instructor, and there's structure there. YOu know you have to turn up at a certain time on certain days.

What sort of moving around do you ENJOY? Maybe that's a better place to start thinking about changing your life.

I’m 60 and have been working out at home with Caroline Girvan programmes for 3 years. I gained a lot of muscle, have visible triceps now!

I did Caroline Girvan's Epic 1 programme. Well, I did the first 6 weeks then injured my knee (not when exercising, just walking and slipped/twisted it).
Within that 6 weeks I started to see changes to my arms, abs and legs. There were dips and contours starting to be visible, which amazed me after a short time, but the programme was intense, 5 workouts per week!
I loved it, didn't have to think about what to do because over the course of each week, every muscle group was covered.

I'm hoping to restart soon, but will just need to do much shallower lunges and squats for a while!
