Can someone give me a little boost to keep me on track?

I've been chasing my 1.5x BW deadlift for a while - got within a couple of kg and then a fortnight ago, tweaked my back slightly during it.

Nothing bad, it's just stiff but I feel like I need to back off and take it easier for a couple of weeks which feels like it will be erasing all my gains. I need step back and then build again.

Mentally tough, though - can anyone give me a shot in the arm?

You won’t lose any gains over two weeks I don’t think. Rest properly and then back at it 💪💪💪

Thanks! I'll be in there at 6.30am tomorrow but probably won't go to my single max rep.

Yes - back off the weight. Build your deep strength. Strength & fitness are not linear - after the first 6 months of newbie gains anyway.

I think I'm probably a lot older than you, but when I started heavy weight training in my late 50s, I did tend to get back twinges & spasms deadlifting. I've now been at it 6 years, and rarely get twinges (I do sometimes get DOMS in my back after heavy deads).

My most recent 1RM is now1.5 times my body weight. But it took me 6 years. I remember when lifting 70k felt like a triumph. Now it's my warm up.

Sometimes you just have to stay on the plateau and grind. Consistency. It builds the muscles, bit by bit.

Plateaux in lifting are very annoying but you will the step up. Better to grind than be out with an injury.

Great advice @ParmaVioletTea . I've been lifting for years and do a lot of xtraining. I have been chasing this particular lift for about 15 mos now. I'm usually very gradualist and cautious in upping my weights and have never really had any back problems before - just saw the goal suddenly in sight and did the classic thing of overreaching myself!

I spent a good 45 mins just on this lift today, sloooowly mobilising my back and stepping up the weight after a good warm up, then finished by doing single reps at just 80kg. Then stopped whilst I was still ahead!

I as getting back into training today after travelling for wrk for most of the last three weeks. Did deads and stopped at 4 sets of 80 for 4 reps. It felt good. I could have gone to 90 for at least 1 set but didn't want to court danger!

Slow & steady. Grind.
