Low impact YouTube suggestions

I've finally had the motivation to get into a bit of exercise/strength training after years of being pretty inactive.

I have completed Caroline girvins beginner epic week and felt surprisingly good with it. Yes I couldn't walk downstairs for a day after the first session but most weren't too hard.

BUT I am disabled and while I am happily surprised I can manage squats, lunges and the basic movements, I cannot do anything that involves quick changes of the body. I couldn't do the burpees in the final hiit day because I'm just not agile enough and never will be given my condition. If I do those type of moves I am at huge risk of having a flare in my condition, which involves going back to a wheelchair for a year.

My question is, can I continue with CG workouts or will the other series have more and more hiiit based content? Is there anything I can do to swap out the more agile stuff (I can't star jump etc because it's too much impact)

Or are there other youtube plans that might be better and focus on strength only rather than the cardio/hiit work?

Try Lily Sabri. She has lots of free workouts on YT of all different lengths.

There's a countdown to each movement change and she gives lower impact aternatives.

I hate working out but enjoy her videos, especially when her very cute dog tries to join in!

If it's just Burpees, can you adapt the exercise to a non-impact?

That would be a walkout push up, chest to floor, then walk back up again.

ie bend over, get hands to floor, walk them forward into plank, chest to floor, press up, walk hands back, stand up straight.

These will get you STRONG

Sorry just came back to this. Thank you for the suggestion I'll take a look.

Thanks I will try this. It's the sudden jerky movement of being one way (upright) and then another (flat) it's just too much for my poor spine.

I will try these. I am so pleased I can actually do the strength stuff that isn't so jerky I am keen to carry on if I can. I might check out the other suggestion while I re-do the beginning week of epic.

Burpees really train your triceps, but so do press ups. Take is slow - think of walking out to a good strong plank. Then lowering down. Then pushing up back to plank - in any way you can! The push up bit will be messy .....

I really rate the Our Parks Couch to Fitness programme. It’s designed like Couch 25k so it starts with more breaks and easier movements, then ramps up week on week. You can repeat weeks as needed if you don’t feel ready to move on and they have several instructors in each video showing adaptations of each movement for different abilities and physical restrictions.

I highly recommend Cheryl Coulombe on youtube her workouts are pure strength training, she recommends 30 mins full body 3 x a week and the workouts are structured in a way you can easily go at your own pace and use the weights that suit you. I have a couple of adjustable sets of dumbbells at home and that's all you need. I do these and aim to walk lots most days and have made so much more progress strength wise then I did when I was working out 5 days a week with a mixture of strength and hiit.

If you like Caroline Girvan style however I would also highly recommend Sydney Cummings summer time fine programme, 2024 one was fantastic, again its free on youtube- she is so motivating and always includes everything you need from warm up to cool down in a structured programme- she really got me in to training at home with no experience. It feels like having a trainer with you whereas Cheryl does require some experience as she doesn't talk through form like Sydney does.
