Can anyone advise on this injury to my knee

Not done in gym, I just thought people on this thread would be the experts. Done when a chair broke and I kept my balance, twisting my knee as I did so. GP has referred to Orthopeadics but didn’t really know how to interpret. Is this likely to heal by itself? Any tips for my recovery? It happen eight weeks ago and has improved every day since until a week or so ago when in plateaued. I can now walk without a crutch and do stairs etc but it’s not right. Can’t kneel and scared to try to run or jump.

This is the MRI report

Can anyone advise on this injury to my knee

Why would you ask random strangers on the internet? Go to your health care professionals for proper treatment. Start with a physiotherapist.

They've asked in the weight room and can't contact a health professional right now Ffs.

Meniscus tears are tricky because there's limited blood flow so they don't heal or repair by themselves. I damaged both my knees several years ago - taekwondo - medical tears and snapped ACLs.

Depending on severity they may recommend an arthroscopy to trim away damaged menisci but it depends on the damage and how problematic your knees are. Floating bits of cartilage can make bending/locking out painful but it really does depend on how serious the tears are.

My ACLs should have been repaired but instead I was only given arthroscopies and have just had my first knee replacement a year ago.

Physio will help but if there's significant mechanical damage surgery might be on the cards.

But as a pp said, you should be seeking advice from your healthcare professionals as they are the experts (the above is based on my own personal experience - I am not a medical professional).

Thanks so much @CandyLeBonBon. yes I will of course but GP said Nhs physio won’t tough it without go ahead from orthopeadics and I don’t know how long the referral to orthopeadics will take.

At the moment for example I don’t even have any idea whether walking on it is good for recovery (it’s clickier/lockier after I walk the kids to school for example which is about a mile round trip) or whether I should be resting it as much as I can.

In my experience, keeping moving is good, but interspersed with RICE. If it's still swollen/hot, badger the gp again.

Try some gentle swimming/hydrotherapy if you can, keep on top of pain killers and don't do any impact - gentle walking is fine but maybe keep a stick with you just in case.

Torn menisci can be painful but too much inactivity is as bad as too much. Avoid anything that requires twists or jumps.

Thank you so much. So helpful

Find a good physio who deals with sports injuries and pay for a few sessions privately. You’ll get expert advice from a hands on consultation and a set of exercises to do. I pay £50 per consult, go when I need and it’s far better than generic bog-standard NHS physiotherapists who don’t tend to know about sports injuries.

TellMeOnAMonday · 01/02/2025 21:29

I was wondering about that @LittleBigHead but I was scared off by gp saying physio wouldn’t touch it without orthopaedic sign off
