How to find a PT

Hi,
I need to find a PT for a family member who doesn’t have a gym membership.

Is this possible?
For the right PT the family member could go to them?
Is there some sort of established directory that you’ve used and could recommend?

I think many PTs have an arrangement with gyms where their clients can attend their sessions there without a membership. I would get local recommendations (e.g. ask on social media / local Facebook groups).

I have a PT. He PT’s inside of our local gym. Charges more if you’re not a member of that gym though.

I would maybe look on your local town FB page, or your local gym FB page and see if anyone has recommendations.

There is no directory. I would ask locally for recommendations. Quite a few PTs round me (South London) work in parks - they often wear T shirts with contact details or have QR codes on their kit trolleys so you can contact after if you like the look of their sessions as you walk by.

So that’s difficult - thank you for your replies guys.

So the person who needs a PT is elderly, and very very standoffish. They need to move but won’t join a gym or appreciate me making their needs known on fb. They have agreed to work with a PT if I can find one.

I suppose I could try posting anonymously?

I tried reaching out to age concern, to see if they held a list of people who work with the elderly…..they do not and were very surprised that I asked.

I’m not in the same country as this person, so I won’t run into anyone suitable.

I need someone kind, who can be moaned at, who is relentlessly positive, and not scared of an 80yr old who might well break. :-/

That is tricky.....in that case I would search for community organisations - would your relative join a group class? Several run round here that are aimed at older people included gentle tai chi, seated Pilates, park bench strength, walking groups in parks etc. That might be a way to start and maybe 1:1 PT especially in a gym is too big a jump and perhaps not necessary? And the instructors/leaders may well know of other stuff going on locally.

I wonder if it's worth enquiring with physios? Sports physios often have links with PTs, coaches etc and might be able to recommend someone who would be suited (and suitably qualified/experienced) to work with that age group.
