Anyone tried Metformin or orlistat for weight loss?

I'm looking at NICE guidelines and although I'm exercising x3 per week and trying to reduce my calories, I still can't lose weight- am trying to fast x2 per week but I get starving!
So am thinking about asking my GP about metformin or orlistat.
Has anyone tried them successfully or otherwise?
Cheers!

Hi. I'm currently trying Metformin. I'm on a low dose of 500mg ER at bed. The side effects really hit me. Fatigue, nausea, stomach cramps and a few others. I stopped after 2 weeks, and was told to try again taking it every other day. It been doing that for about 3 weeks. Side effects still there, but less intense. My cravings have sharply reduced and I've lost about 6 pounds. It's worth a try, just make sure you take it after you have eaten. Good luck!

I have been taking Xenical (Orlisat) for around 3 weeks now. For a week prior to starting it, I already started heavily reducing high fat foods like cheese, chocolate, pork etc. I have lost around 4kgs in the last 4 weeks - I was previously 71kg (am 5ft 6 for ref). It does work well and I’m not hungry but it is an adjustment as you constantly need to check fat content. If you do decide to go down this route, always take a tablet with a psyllium husk tablet at the same time, it stops the stomach problems.

I have tried both and found neither helpful.
Orlistat had such horrendous side effects with leakage I stopped taking it.
Metformin helped my horse who had equine metabolic syndrome lose weight but did nothing for me. I think it only helps if you have the appropriate condition not for weight loss in general. A friend who has pcos lost a lot of weight on it.

Didn’t know metformin could help with weight loss; I was given it for diabetes, but it didn’t seem to affect weight / appetite, and just succeeded in keeping me awake for literally days on end!
