How and where do I start with 'strengthening' - peri menopausal/lazy/unfit

So as the title says. I have been directed here by another poster - thank you

I have to start some sort of exercise aimed at bone protection. Im 'that' age now and have spent my whole life very overweight, Im sure I have sort of strong legs.

But I have lost an awful lot of weight, brilliant, but I know a lot of that will be muscle and I do no exercise at all. I hate movement of any kind!

I started just trying to walk, have given that up.

I was even looking at gym memberships earlier but I got a headache thinking about it, I know I wouldnt go

I also cant get down on the floor or back up again, I cant kneel on the floor. Sitting on hard surfaces is very painful these days, I have no fat on my bum it seems.

What can I do, how do I do it to protect against the risk of menopause related bone loss?

TIA

I sm recommending Dr Rangan Chatterjee feel better in 5 in the full knowledge that I have the book, love the book, have read it several times, have the same concerns about bone density- but just haven't done any exercises the book. It has ideas for short burst exercises you can do while you are doing other things, for 5 minutes at a time. That may be a good start before moving onto other things. I am the opposite in that I do exercise 3-4 times a week- a mixture of swimming, yoga and fitness classes, but just can't seem to get my food intake down.

I have a couple of kettle bells at home (12 and 8). I just find random kettle bell workouts and do those.
I also do one or 2 weights classes at my local gym. You might not think classes are for you, but at 45, I'm at the younger end of the women in them. I used to do an amazing kettle bell class, but the instructor left. I do body pump and I can definitely see the difference.

This is a great thread! So much good advice, and I will check out the book suggestions.

If you’re looking for an IRL and online PT who ‘gets it’, I really love West Beach Fitness - Katie is a mid-40s PT who works with a lot of peri women for strength. She’s based in Whitstable but even if you’re not in the SE, she does a lot of online coaching, FB and YouTube videos - def worth checking out.
