Weight lifting and vaginal prolapse

I was always keen on weight training but a few years ago I got out of the habit.
I want to go back but on top of the menopause I've had a prolapse. I am waiting for a gynecology appointment.
In the mean time what about going back to the gym.
My favourites were dead lifts squats , bench press and leg press.
Any advice please.

It will probably be worse if you carry on with a prolapse.

I would say it depends on how bad the prolapse is - mild it may improve due to stronger pelvic floor. Moderate/severe it would possibly worsen.
You could try a bit on light weights and see how it goes?

I'd suggest seeing a qualified physio who specialises in women's health - theres one at the clinic I go to and this is the sort of thing they specialise in. Appreciate private physio is a cost though if you can do it it's comparable to a couple of PT sessions and really worth the investment.

I think it’s “no go” until you discuss with gynae consultant.

Are you using topical estrogen? This is advised for menopausal women with prolapse to help maintain the tissue in terms of thickness, strength and elasticity.

I'd suggest seeing a physio but preferably one who works with lifters (I know of one in Cheshire if that helps). In some situations it can help, and health is much wider than just the prolapse.

Thanks for your replies everyone.
I'm on a waiting list to see a specialist but it could take up to a year. I'm just using hrt patches to get me through the menopause

I am lifting with a mild prolapse. Where possible I do arm and shoulder lifts either sitting or lying down and make sure I fully brace core for lower body. I adapt where necessary and I only lift at home so don't go too heavy.

I saw a physio who was useless so am now doing the Dr Bri pelvic floor exercises online. I am only doing the free trial at present but it has really helped so may purchase the full programme shortly.

I found out I had a prolapse in peri meno after many years lifting.

I have continued, physio said as long as I breathed properly it was OK.

My prolapse is phase 3 and I'm having surgery later this year. Both consultant and physio want me to get back to running and lifting weights again (I use dumbells), nothing super duper heavy.

I'm 46. Consultant v keen on giving me back my 'quality of life'. He's fab.

In the meantime I'm doing 10 of 10 kegels twice a day though I was doing 6 x5 on squeezy before this.

I'm fit, slim and strong. But my prolapse has been made significantly worse by meno.
