Kidney issues - due to high protein diet and lifting?

I have just had some tests back and the following results are near top or outside the reference range
eGFR 50.6 (range 80 to 120) I understand this is calculated from creatinine but does look worryingly low
Creatinine 103 (range 53-106)
total protein 79 (range 64-78)

I am wondering if they are cause for concern. I am currently weight training and eat quite a high protein diet. I stupidly exercised before the test as I thought it might help the blood draw. Would this affect results? All other tests incl albumin and glubulin look ok. I did have a mild uti last week which I took d-mannose for for around 10 days, would this affect things?

I had the test privately as a freebee add on for something else so these results were quite unexpected.

Has anyone else who lifts experienced anything similar with creatinine levels? My creatinine was only 65 in October so a jump to 103 is pretty large.

Same, my creatinine is always on the higher end because I strength train and eat high protein. My doctor is not concerned, it's not unusual for lifters.

Your kidneys have to work a bit harder when you have a high protien meal so this will have affected the result. If you can repeat the test - have a low protien day, keep well hydrated and then take another blood test. If your creatinine is back to normal then you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks all. My GP has ordered a test for protein in the urine and if that comes back clear will retest creatinine in a month. I will make sure I am low protein before the next one and gave a couple of days break from lifting.

@Itisnearlyspring I have something similar! Did you get a diagnosis?

Yes it was all fine and completely normal on the next test so I assume it was just high due to the weights and protein intake.

My GP diagnosed Stage 3 kidney disease - despite not meeting the nice criteria and me telling them that I lifted/ate high protein and did this not have some impact.

Urine is clear of protein and has been each time they tested. eGFR was 55, creatine 91

I also had the blood test after working out - because I work out each morning.

I'm about to have another blood test - I'm going to make sure it's early morning every time now to see if that makes a difference.

There isn't any treatment anyway suggested - just said it increased my Qrisk and to take statins (I've declined previously)
