Weight has gone up??

So I started eating properly and clean just less than 2 weeks ago. I am on a weight loss journey. I lost 50 kilos 2 years ago but have now put 30 on after pregnancy childbirth etc. Yay(!). I'm doing the exact same I did last time including the same HIIT workout. It's a 20 minute one dumbell workout. I use 4kg and it's intense. It's hard but I love the sweat that comes. I don't remember what happened the last time with my weight but when checking this time on the scale it has gone up. This workout did wonders for my backfat and I know I'm eating right so I am going to stop looking at scales for a few weeks. Apparently when you start working out your weight goes up but can somebody shed some light on this. I felt gutted and had to force myself to get up and workout today and not give up 😭😭

Probably because you eat more, thinking that you are working out, so you can consume more calories.

It's not true.

Apart from anything else, for weight lifting (this is the section of MN dedicated to lifting weights not weight loss) starting & staying at 4 kilos isn't going to be heavy enough to shift weight.

Proper weight lifting might do that, but only in combination with a calorie deficit and a programme of progressive overload. So 4 kilos this week, 5 the next, and so on.

@HH171222 sorry not one point you made is true at all. I've now learnt it goes up because you get micro tears in your muscle so you're not to look at the scale as frequently as it will be up and down. Second you don't need to go up in weight at all. I'm not doing proper weight lifting its just one dumbell I use during my hiit workout and I lost 30 kilos of the 50 last time using one weight. I won't be replying again as you're just make assumptions and guessing. Thanks but Thanks.

Well, you asked! And what I said was accurate ... The only way to lose weight is calorie deficit.

Many overweight people massively over-estimate the calories expenditure of exercise. It sounds like you have a lot of weight to lose, so a 4 kilo dumbbell is probably as heavy as is safe for you.

Good luck and enjoy your work outs!

But sure ... believe a random on TikTok over a random on MN (even tho' I'm a doctor).

Hormones
Water retention
Times of day that you weigh
Whether youve been to the toilet ...

So many variables reflect on the scale.
Keep the faith and take measurements, but if you're eating well & exercising you're improving your health irrespective of a number on the scales.

Do you feel happier (before checking the scale!)?
Any difference in how your clothes feel this week?
Is the exercise feeling any easier?
These changes are just as important to notice as weight😊
