Inspiration for new fitness activity to try

My PT is taking a break and I am not particularly interested in finding another one at the moment. I’ll have some money from not paying for sessions and fancy trying a new fitness activity/activities for a bit. What are you enjoying? I’m looking for some inspiration!

What do you normally do with your PT? What other activities are available near you? Lots of people who strength train also box - have you tried that?

Boxing? A few guest passes at different gyms to try out different equipment. Paddle boarding, horse riding?

I love climbing, I started at the beginning of the year (I climbed 20 years ago but stopped) and it’s great. Uses just about every muscle you’ve got.

@MsMartini I have been doing strength and skill type work to build flexibility. Have done a boxfit class previously but not boxing proper, it’s an interesting suggestion! @1idea suggesting boxing too! Horse riding definitely not for me, but really want to try paddle boarding and thinking about gym for some classes too - just want someone to tell me what to do!

@ImBrian how strong do you have to be to start climbing do you think? I don’t know if I’m up to it!

I'd really recommend boxing - I've done a class that was more "proper" than boxfit but not full on sparring, which was great fun if you got the right partner, and also had some 1:1 PT - BEST FUN EVER. I had to hit the PT as hard as I could (knowing I couldn't really hurt him as I only got close if he let me and he was loads taller) and he obviously could only tap me back. I'm too into my strength training to commit to anything else but if I had a gap, a good boxing class or PT is what I'd go for. You tend to do a fair few push ups and core work with it as well.

If you are in a gym, or have access to some, I'd try a few different classes, you could use classpass as a start.

HIIT bootcamp outside with kit, or CrossFit.

ImBrian · 05/12/2022 06:28

When I started I couldn’t do a pull up or a push up and now I can do a fair few of each. Climbing covers a range of difficulties and the easiest levels will be like going up a ladder.

Climbing (Bouldering), to begin with is very little to do with arm and leg strength. Its all in the feet and legs. Age is most definitely not a barrier and most walls have very welcoming ladies nights too where free coaching is usually included foc. Most walls cover anything a beginner should be looking at with plenty of variety.

I tried climbing recently and loved it.

Pole fitness is another fitness activity that I absolutely love.

Horse riding? That's what I'd do if I'd saved up a bit of money. I have been watching a lot of Yellowstone recently, which might have swayed me a bit...
