Who or what is the Adriene of strength training?

I want to start developing my strength. For practical reasons I can only do this at home for now. I have a very low irritation threshold and find Adriene the only online yoga instructor that I can bear. Is there an equally non-irritating equivalent for strength training? I am prepared to pay for content if it is good! Particularly interested to hear opinions of the Stylist Strong Women Club and Apple Fitness +.

No need to pay.
It's Caroline Girvan you want
Free on YouTube 😀

What equipment do you need? (Sorry to hijack the thread!)

FusionChefGeoff · 25/04/2022 22:31

I discovered a lovely American trainer who's channel is called Nourish Move Love and I think she's amazing. Loads of different 14 day / 30 day challenges and a huge range of different workouts. I've found a set of 4 which work really well for me (2 legs, 1 'push' upper body and 1 'pull') all between 30-45 minutes.

I've gained so much strength and muscle tone and because they're so short they fit in easily to my day. Because they exercise different muscle groups you can do them consecutive days but also make sure you have rest days.

@FusionChefGeoff - I've had a look at her site and it looks really good - I've been looking for something like this for a while.

Please can you give me a bit more details on the ones that work for you so I can look at those? Links or full titles? Thank you.

@Indiaplain - generally it's hand weights and/or kettlebells. The trainer in the one fusionchef is talking about suggests 5-20lb, starting smaller and building up as you get stronger. If you go to the site, I just googled it, there's more info plus her using them in videos.

Upper body 'pull' 35 minutes

Upper body 'push' 35 minutes

Legs 30 minutes

Legs 45 minutes

I would recommend keeping a note of which weights you use for each exercise so that you can make sure you're lifting as heavy as you can and that you're progressing.

I've got one set of adjustable weights which is annoying as sometimes I need heavy and then lighter for the next exercise and have to stop to change all the time but if you've got fixed weights it's much easier.

CorsicaDreaming · 26/04/2022 09:38

Thanks very much @FusionChefGeoff - that's really kind of you.

I'm going to have a go once I shake this covid.

I've only got one incredibly ancient set of 3lb weights at the moment, so any suggestions on a good starter set from anyone who's got some they like would be really useful.

I will probably want the light end and will feel fairly happy to stick with lighter ones, but by the sound of it 3lb is going to be too light.

Thank you all so much. Is Caroline Girvan's Beginner Epic series the place to start?

Ooops. Sorry 😳

HDready · 26/04/2022 09:42

I like Heather Robertson as well

Ooh, I'm interested in this too! Love Adriene, loathe most others fitnesss types.

So, this Caroline Girvan. What series does one follow? Or does it matter? Youtube channel doesn't really explain...

FlowerArranger · 10/07/2022 18:32

Caroline has an Epic Beginners series. See how you get on with that, but don't move on to Epic until you are comfortable with the Beginners.

After that I'd actually start with Epic 3 rather than 1 or 2 as 3 is a bit shorter. Epic Heat sessions are also shorter but have a greater cardio component.

DonttouchthatLarry · 10/07/2022 18:38

I love Brian Klepacki (Coach Brian) of Criticalbench, discovered him at the start of the pandemic when the gym closed.

GoodThinkingMax · 13/07/2022 14:54

I also really like MegSquats (find her on YouTube & Instagram). She's a serious lifter - focusing on the full body lifts involved in deadlifts, squats (front & back) and bench press. Much less aerobic-like than others cited here.

Yes it is. I love her workouts. I prefer the shorter ones, so I do the Iron series on repeat. It’s 30 minutes. My daughter has commented on my muscle definition.
