Beginning weights training at home - You Tube recommendations

Hi

I'd like to start building my strength and muscle tone. I'm female, late 30s, moderately fit, some pelvic floor weakness from childbearing. I am active in the sense of long daily walks, some running or cardio on rowing machine, and since January, daily yoga also, but I definitely don't feel as strong as I should be. I'm middle of normal BMI range. I've dabbled in gym machines etc before but never consistently.

I have access to a range of dumbells, gymball, and even a barbell which I could borrow regularly if required. Can anyone recommend a good weight training programme for beginners at home? Is there a You Tube equivalent of Yoga with Adriene for weights/strength? I find following along an engaging video class much more motivating than just the bland Fitness Blender purely explaining-the-mechanics type.

Thanks!

I’ve been following Hasfit since last month. I’m a complete beginner at weights and I’ve found their videos great

Oh wow thanks, that looks like exactly what I am seeking.

How are you enjoying the weights? Have you managed to see progress in a month?

MegSquats - she has loads of YouTube videos, and very sound advice.

Everything she says & does is pretty much what I've also learnt from my PT (with whom I mostly do heavy weights).

You need to focus on good form in squats and deadlifts. And set up a simple progression training plan.

But the main thing is good technique - saves you from injury, and when the weights get really heavy, if your technique is second nature, it makes the heavy stuff so much easier.

Good intro.

I can’t recommend a video but I just want to echo other posters and say make sure your form is good- it’s so easy to get injured especially when you start increasing the weights. When I first started out I did the Joe Wickes 90 day programme and looking back it’s a wonder I didn’t do my back in as I was doing it completely wrong! Once you find something you like I would get a PT- not frequently but every few weeks just to check your form or there’s forums you can video yourself and people will tell you.
