Does anyone use a decent weight lifting forum?

I've been trying to find somewhere for ages where I can chat to other women who lift. But the only forums I have found are either women lifting super light and mainly focussed on cardio or more serious forums which are over-run with misogynists (bodybuilding.com actually makes me weep at how much they hate women).

I want somewhere I can talk about decent weight lifting kit, how to up my personal bests, whether I should be avoiding the trap bar for my deadlifts, how to improve my grip strength, whether protein shakes actually do anything etc etc.

Is there anything like this out there for women?

And it was always women who used to argue over who stood where in kettle bells and the 'but that's my favorite spin bike'.

Maybe it was just a gym that attracted knobbers Grin

Shock at your posts Suzanne and Shewept - knobbers in both cases!

Honestly Sleep I am so much happier in a smaller gym. Nothing like that ever happens.

What I do miss about the big gym are the old ladies that used to go. You would be sat having a coffee and they would sit and chat to you. We had a really interesting conversation about the 'my granny the escort' documentary. I was howling, one of them wanted to give it a go. Was asking me how to set fb up. Grin So there was nice things about it. But 9 times out of 10 I used to feel more stressed by the time I was finished.

sure people of both sexes do things that bug me a bit but in a public place I think thats to be expected and I can let it go.

From a few men there is the vague sense of hostility, I've never found any of the women in the gym to give off anything like that kind of vibe
sometimes I feel I want to high five them just for going in the weights room :o

shewept · 10/04/2015 16:39

Yes its a very different kind of annoying. Men are generally hostile, which puts women off going to the weights area.

The women were just generally high maintenance, annoying but not intended to intimidate. Just a bit screechy about things not being their way.

Both annoying, but very different.

Unfortunately there wasn't really anyone other women who would brave the weights area.

In my new gym there was more women than men this morning.

I'm sorry to hear about the meatheads.

Fwiw I hate certain types of men that go to the gym. Usually guys that are so huge that they're dead lifting 200+ kgs, huffing and puffing and slamming the bar down so that everyone turns round.

Oddly enough they can lift 200+ kgs, but for some reason lifting and returning the 25kg weights to the rack is impossible Hmm

shewept · 10/04/2015 17:57

Futopia that made me laugh...its so true. It gives me rage when people don't put the weights back! Grin

That's so strange - I posted a long thread here yesterday but it doesn't seem to be showing up.

I've been lifting for the last couple of years and would be happy to join a new topic. I was on BodySpace (bodybuilding.com) for a while but found they were on the obsessive end of the spectrum for me. I mostly strength train to support other sports rather than doing it for aesthetic reasons - I'm working on building my explosive power and try to work in squats and deadlifts as much as possible, but also love kettlebells for variety.

sleepwhenidie · 12/04/2015 21:45

Hi Maggie , d'you mind adding your support to the thread in Site Stuff? Looks like MNHQ want more positive voices Smile

shewept · 12/04/2015 21:52

Hi Maggie welcome. That's what I love about weights, they can be worked in with most sports and help improve performance!

IronMaggie · 13/04/2015 08:44

Hello sleep! Done :)
