Ouija board

I'd love to hear from people that have done one, what happened?

I wouldn't ever do one but I can't get over always thinking that somebody in the group must be pushing the arrow instead of it "guiding" you

When I was about fifteen a girl in my Science class suddenly stood up and started screaming. It turned out that she'd done a ouija board a few days before and had seen something/somebody in the classroom and then freaked out

I think there's certain things you shouldn't mess with and that this is one of them. Too big a risk

Given that the majority of people are perfectly nice and normal, why is it only 'evil' spirits that make contact.

It's never Aunty Jean who pops up to say hello and give you gardening tips or chat about making homemade scones!

MonsteraMama · 22/02/2024 20:42

I've done a few, nothing ever happened. The most exciting event was my cat getting his furry pants in a twist half way through, leaping onto the board and punting the planchette off under the sofa. He obviously didn't approve of our dabbling in the occult.

I did at 18 (I'm 53 now) when travelling and was in Australia with my friend who I'd gone with and two guys we'd met (we were all English). I felt my beloved nan came though and was sending messages. My boyfriend at the time was in Canada studying and it said 'you love xxxx (his name). I Threw the board and would never do it again.

You do realise you were creating the words yourself, surely?

Have you heard of the ideomotor effect? There’s a reason that when people play blindfolded, they don’t get coherent words or messages - only gibberish.

Ouija boards are just silly fun, nothing more.

@inamarina "Still not quite sure what exactly it was."

It was condensation.

So your friend, who presumably knew you had a Canada-based boyfriend at the time, and that you had a dead grandmother you loved, had her finger on the glass? And you still think it was ‘spirits’?

I think so too, but why the weird shape in the middle of the window? And no condensation around it?
Fwiw, Im not particularly woo, just wondering how it worked on that particular occasion.

lol I’ve often wondered this. Maybe the good ones have moved on? 😬

That's where you're wrong. Often, the 'people' you hear from are entities pretending to be relatives.

Bottom line with Ouija boards is that they open you up to unknown things and they should be left alone. You might not believe in a spirit realm but there is one whether you think so or not.

Talking of Aleister Crowley - he is a very good advert for not messing with the occult. IIRC he had tried to summon spirits and was found dead, eyes staring, inside a locked room.

Oh the Paris Incident?

It was his assistant who is said not to have survived the encounter with Pan.

JudyGemstone · 01/08/2024 00:02

I thought Crowley died in Hastings as a result of his many addictions catching up with him?

was his assistant that man who he took into the desert? Victor Neuberg?

Elphame · 01/08/2024 00:12

The one who apparently died in Paris is named as MacAleister.

@UnctuousUnicorns "Because he was watching it. I believe him because he's my dad, and I trust him 100%."

So you're taking 70 year old hearsay as proof positive. OK.

You seem really mean and aggressive, I know this is a really old thread but I'm gobsmacked that you came to a paranormal thread to put people down. And in the most unkind way. Not constructive debate or refuting, just unkind. @CurlewKate

@CurlewKate has been perfectly civil. No one is suggesting @UnctuousUnicorns’s father is lying. But something that happened over 70 years ago might be extremely blurry in her father’s memory, or he may simply have been mistaken. Children are easily spooked and imaginative. I wouldn’t take anything on 70yesr--old hearsay.

RedRidingGood · 10/08/2024 18:13

@Gurthnamuckla I disageee!

CurlewKate · 11/08/2024 06:32

@RedRidingGood I'm sorry you felt I was being mean. But can you seriously think of any other circumstances where we would be asked to accept as fact a second hand account of an incident that happened 70 years ago simply because the the person telling the story "trusts her dad 100%"?

And you know this for sure??? I mean you really believe this? And they are evil? Right, it’s never the good ones and you need a wooden board?

Elphame · 24/08/2024 19:17

I have this one in the cupboard - what could possibly go wrong?

It doesn't actually work, which is why it is in the cupboard...
