Been reading through the old ones and wishing for a new one for ages!

Reddit NoSleep rules apply (treat others stories as if they are real and no attempting to "solve" any mysteries unless asked to by the author)

Hopefully I'll get some replies!

Mine:

Just over the last year I have started to believe that we have a helpful ghost in the house. One evening DS was watching something on Amazon Prime on the PS3 when I asked him to turn it off and get ready for bed. He ignored me. I asked again, a bit firmer. He ignored me. Just as I was about to get cross the PlayStation turned off... only it didn't just die, it went through the whole shutdown sequence, you could even see the choices being highlighted on the screen as the options to shut down were chosen.

Both controllers were on the table in front of me. Neither were being touched.

Same has happened with the Fire stick in our bedroom. I've said to DH "oh, I'm getting sleepy, turn off the fire stick would you?" And before he could move to get to the control the fire stick has gone through its shutdown sequence and then the TV has turned off.

Got a few more, but want to see if anyone else posts anything!

That sounds like a helpful ghost!

PlumFairy2014 · 20/07/2017 21:30

Ooooh, our ghost leaves the house tip. DD and DH don't even see it making the mess and not tidying up after itself....

Well there have been some cracking ones on Mumsnet over the years. The ghost in the nightclub, Savernake Forest, the three brothers having the same dream and the youngest dying.... I was hoping for some more Sad

My favourite one was the family who's house ghost was called Joe and alerted them to loads of things over the years like dodgy boyfriends and the peeping NDN!

thefutureisfemale · 20/07/2017 22:26

I have a presence in my house that turned vaguely menacing when I fell pregnant.

I was putting on my pants (sorry) when it pushed me so hard I fell over.

LadyFlumpalot · 21/07/2017 08:32

@thefutureisfemale oh no! Were you ok?

@rumplestiltskins I don't think I remember that one.

Well it's Friday night and the lights are low....... let's get this thread moving!

My teen DD is having some experiences in her bedroom. Last week she said something strummed her ukulele in the middle of the night.

PlumFairy2014 · 21/07/2017 21:46

I work in an historic house and there's a bedroom which people (allegedly) always get pushed out of. As soon as they reach the doorway to leave they feel a shove. It has been witnessed by staff, people falling out of the room due to the ghostly push.
The room is no longer open to the public.

I know of a house where they had a tidying ghost. It used to unpeg dry washing if left on the line over night and fold it neatly on the garden bench. Obvs a mumsnetter ghost. Well it was before mumsnet. But you know. The ghost also had a creepy habit of turning photos face down.
They saw it, and it was a lady dressed in civil war type dress. House was built upon a camping ground connected to a civil war battle. They initially thought it was a WAAF due to the house backing onto an old ww2 airfield.
She never came again after that.
I have some more but will type later.

Creeeeeeepyyyy.

PopcornNRedwine · 22/07/2017 22:00

I was, unusually, staying at my parents house in my old bedroom over Christmas last year.

I don't sleep well in strange places and I like to look outside whenever I wake up in the middle of the night (it's to do with a strange anxiety over sleeping through my alarm).

Anyway, so I look outside to see a man standing outside then neighbours. Just standing, looking up to the second floor, hands in pockets, their breath visible in the cold night air. I had this really bad feeling about looking out, so I slowly put the curtain back in place and jumped into bed. I took my mobile phone with me, checking the time while I did. It was around 3am.

I think I saw every hour on the clock that night. I woke up clutching my phone in the morning. I eventually gathered ladyballs big enough to look outside against in daylight. It has snowed overnight, with the footsteps starting from the same point outside the neighbours and leading down my parents path, and away again.
Nothing happened. But I was pretty freaked out.
At least I remembered to tell my parents to be really careful. And now I don't look out windows in the middle of the night.

SansaryaAgain · 22/07/2017 22:07

My cousin died a few more month ago, tragically young, and the day after her funeral I was sitting in my parents' lounge on FB or MN, can't remember which. Anyway my mum said something, so I put the phone down and proceeded to chat to her for a few minutes.

When I picked the phone up, it had gone to Messenger and the last conversation I'd had with my cousin, which had been several months previously so it's not like it was at the top of my Messenger threads and could've accidentally been brought up.

Not exactly a scary story but it did make me stop and think.

JimmyGrimble · 22/07/2017 22:10

When my maternal grandmother died my son was just three. I went to stay with my mum for the week of the funeral and after the funeral, when we were doing some clearing out (36 pairs of flesh coloured tights anyone??) we found some wrapped christmas presents that she hadn't been well enough to give out. I put the one for my boy in my case to give to him when I got home.
The morning after I got home I emptied my case and found the gift. I gave it to my son who piped up 'Nana came into my room and gave me this last night.' It was all a bit odd.

LadyFlumpalot · 22/07/2017 22:10

Yay! New stories!

I'm not sure if this is creepy, lovely or sad but a few years ago when DS was about to turn two we started to have creepy things happen around the house. Baby toys would come on, DH and I were sure we saw movement and shadows and DS started babbling away to nothing. He was a late talker and so we were very surprised to here him saying "Nanny" a lot. For reference, none of his grandmas (my mum, my stepmum or MIL) are known as Nanny.

Anyway, after getting throughly creeped out one day whilst home alone with DS I said, out loud, "can you please stop? You are frightening me and it's not ok!"

Immediately the house felt emptier.

Fast forward a few months and we are invited to DHs grandads 80th birthday. DHs Nan passed away several years ago.

Before I even got a chance to say "Happy Birthday" he came over and said "She's sorry for scaring you, she just wanted to see her grandson and great grandson. She's so proud of you all"

I live behind a cemetery - the closest graves are probably about two meters to the boundary line of our garden.

The people who first lived in our home are now buried in the cemetery.

One night our (wireless) doorbell started ringing, and at the same time our dining room lights started to flicker. This happened on a regular basis. I hope it's just an electrical issue due to frequency, but just in case it isn't, I've since removed the doorbell and added a lamp into the dining room... 👻

FruBayerischOla · 24/07/2017 10:41

I've posted this one a few times before. Many years ago I'd gone to stay with my Mum for a few days, she lived in Sussex. One day we decided to visit the Military Aviation Museum at Tangmere - one of the RAF bases which played a big part in the Battle Of Britain in WW2. It was a quiet weekday afternoon and there was only us and a couple of other visitors. As Mum and I walked past two of the staff we heard one say to the other "oh, he's here again - the ghost's here". Intrigued we stopped to ask them about their ghost. They told us that it was a man, but they didn't know anything about him apart from the fact there was always a smell of vanilla when he was around, albeit invisible.

I happened to be wearing a vanilla based perfume that day, so I said "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's me - I'm wearing a vanilla perfume". We all had a good chuckle and Mum and I continued our tour.

Many years later I posted this on a MN woo thread. Someone posted that it was rather tenuous and probably just a story that the staff had made up for the entertainment of visitors. So I decided to Google ghosts at Tangmere airfield. There are many stories of ghosts, considering the number of RAF personnel - and German bomber crews - who'd been killed during air raids.

But I found this short paragraph, which was part of a longer article on the BBC News website :

"Among civilians who died on the base, says Mr Hooley, was an ice-cream seller thought to have been the victim of a direct hit because he and his barrow were never seen again."

Ice cream = smell of vanilla?

Bump!

I don't have any stories of my own but love these threads.

PlumFairy2014 · 24/08/2017 18:10

I mentioned further up a room that is closed at work. I was doing a walk around with a new staff member, joked about it being haunted and as I said it there was a child like wail from the corner of the room.
I justified it as carried noise, but the new colleague turned around and asked the ghost if it was talking to him and to come forward....

BubblesPip · 24/08/2017 19:10

I've got one!

This happened to my dad when he was in his late teens. He and his friends (5 in total) often visited a particular church and graveyard. They noticed that a young baby's grave was terribly overgrown and wanted to tidy it up. They returned a couple of weeks later, cycling to get to the churchyard. They spent a few hours removing weeds, cutting grass and adding flowers.
On the way home they all had something happen to their bike; chains broke, punctures, brakes failed. Surely this couldn't have been a coincidence!?

WhingyNinja · 25/08/2017 12:40

That's creepy Bubbles! And also so sad, they did such a lovely thing but sounds like someone didn't want that grave touched ... Shock
