Been reading through the old ones and wishing for a new one for ages!

Reddit NoSleep rules apply (treat others stories as if they are real and no attempting to "solve" any mysteries unless asked to by the author)

Hopefully I'll get some replies!

Mine:

Just over the last year I have started to believe that we have a helpful ghost in the house. One evening DS was watching something on Amazon Prime on the PS3 when I asked him to turn it off and get ready for bed. He ignored me. I asked again, a bit firmer. He ignored me. Just as I was about to get cross the PlayStation turned off... only it didn't just die, it went through the whole shutdown sequence, you could even see the choices being highlighted on the screen as the options to shut down were chosen.

Both controllers were on the table in front of me. Neither were being touched.

Same has happened with the Fire stick in our bedroom. I've said to DH "oh, I'm getting sleepy, turn off the fire stick would you?" And before he could move to get to the control the fire stick has gone through its shutdown sequence and then the TV has turned off.

Got a few more, but want to see if anyone else posts anything!

Love a creepy story..

When I was aged 7/8, my little sister aged 3/4 went through a stage of sleep walking, and sleeping talking/laughing. It lasted maybe a week or two, and my mum put it down to anxiety. It used to freak me out, as I shared a bedroom with her and she would say she was talking to a man. It all stopped after a while, thankfully.
However one day she was playing upstairs in our bedroom alone. She started screaming and crying really loud, everyone ran upstairs thinking she'd broke a bone or something. The bedroom door was locked, from the inside. The lock hadn't been used in many many years, and was basically stuck in the unlock position. My dad, and grandad had failed to fix it, so would have been impossible for a child to lock it. My dad kicked the door down, and once my sister had calmed down she said an old man had locked the door and was shouting at her. She gave a very detailed description of what he looked like, and smelt like Confused. That was the last time the man was mentioned, although it didn't stop me from being petrified whenever I'd go to bed Blush. She's now 21, and says she remembers that day very well, and still insists that there was an old man there.

My STBXH purchased a holiday home at auction. It was very very cheap. Including all fees etc it set him back 30,000 euros (back before the pound went to shit).

We went out to look at it properly and decide what to do with it. We bought a mattress to sleep on and were going to stay for the week.

I immediately didn't like the place, it made me feel very on edge. I told h this and he said I was being silly.

So we cuddled up in bed and went to sleep.
I got up for a wee and heard footsteps start from bedroom 1 to the left of the bathroom to bedroom 2 (where h was and where we'd been sleeping together) on the right of the bathroom. The door was shut so I didn't see anything.

I called out to h - he didn't respond. Not unusual, he sleeps very heavily. I called out 2 more times. No response.
The footsteps came back from bedroom 2 to bedroom 1, then slowly stepped over to the bathroom in the middle where I was I had finished but was too terrified to leave the bathroom. I heard heavy breathing on the other side of the door and it was creaking slightly. I sat down with my back to the door thinking it was going to be pushed open. I screamed for h.
I heard him half fall/roll out of bed (he wasn't steady on his feet and we had no bed just a mattress). The breathing slowly backed away and I heard what sounded like a very low animal like growl. I heard bedroom 1s door open and shut. H came to the door and opened it and we went back to bed.
I spent the night hid under covers clinging to h Blush

We spoke in the morning about it.
H had heard me calling out, but said when he woke I was lying behind him, sort of spooning him telling him to go back to sleep Shock it was only when he heard me scream later on that he realised I was not there.

As he had come out of bedroom 2 he saw someone walk into bedroom 1, but she did not open the door.
She was apparently short with very long light hair.
Apparently he saw her approach the door, the door opened on its own and she walked in. The door then shut behind her.

He thought he was seeing things and if not, if he'd told me at night I'd have freaked out even more (true - as soon as I found out we left).

As far as I'm aware STBXH still owns that house.
We decided to never rent it, nor sell and to keep it locked up and empty. We had someone who goes to check on it every week or so but we didnt want anyone to live or stay there.

I've read your story before, Queen. Terrifying!!!!

Sirrah · 11/09/2017 14:51

My elderly neighbour died and a few weeks later the house was given to a young family. They were very happy, and soon had a new baby. On several occasions they heard a voice on the baby monitor, chatting away to the little girl. Their son was severely handicapped, so it wasn't him, and the parents were both downstairs. The old lady who died always loved children, so I'm sure she was still there and looking after the new family.

So I definitely think my parents second house was haunted, but only I seemed to notice:

We moved there when I was about 18mo, a distant relative lived with us for a year or so. I was never told this as there was a fall out. I have a memory of being in my cot bed and hearing the big wardrobe rattling. Out popped a large translucent Micky mouse and goofy. (I know I sound insane) they was trying to get me to come into the wardrobe with them. I was shouting no no no, relative woke up, who was in a single bed on the opposite side of the room and told me to "shut up".

I mentioned this to my mum when I was like nine or ten, she laughed at first and then said hang on, how did you know relative X lived with us, I then proceeded to tell her exactly the layout of the room, described the wardrobe, etc etc. She went white and then just shrugged it off.

It's so vivid to this day what happened, I must of been a toddler too which makes it all the more bizarre. I have zero memories of when X relative lived with us, other than this night.

I can also recount every single second of an accident I had in the front room of the house. I had a serious accident that led to 8 stitches in my head. I can remember my mum crouching down by the front window with my dad passing her towels to stem the bleeding, and my mum saying she didn't want passers by to see it all (we lived on a busy main road). I remember sitting on the steps in the hallway with paramedics shining lights into my eyes, I can tell you in detail how the hallway was decorated, including the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs, and what the paramedics looked like.

I can remember being in the hospital and being asked what toy I wanted from a shelf as I was being stitched up. I demanded a tube of wet wipes (didn't know it was a that when asking, and remember being frustrated they didn't know what I was pointing to, then feeling dissatisfaction when I was eventually passed a tube of wet wipes.

I was just shy of 3, my parents have confirmed all these details after me asking, they have never openly talked about the accident (as it was kind of their fault and feel incredible guilt) but some how I know!

There are many many more stories about this normal post war semi, I am not really a believer in anything. But there is some strange stuff from my childhood I just can't explain.

Winebomb · 11/09/2017 21:02

We lived there until I was 12-13ish.

DottyBlue2 · 11/09/2017 21:07

Can you go on my thread in Chat and give me some ideas?

ArchiesMamaBird · 12/09/2017 12:19

Ooh I've been waiting for a new spooky stories thread! Mainly because we've had a few woo experiences in our house.

Our house belonged to DH's aunt, she lived here for 50 years and spent the majority if that time poorly and house bound. She passed away and her DB (my FIL) found her body at the top of the stairs one morning. She left the house to DH and I in her will, I think she loved the idea of us turning it into a nice family home.

6 months of complete renovations later and we finally moved in last November. Since then we've noticed a cold patch in the living room right where her armchair used to be, even when the heating is on and the rest of the room is warm.

But most of the experiences have happened in the bathroom, which is at the top of the stairs where her body was found. We have a backlit mirror in there that has a touch sensor on the side, and that's turned on a few times when we've been in there. The main light for the bathroom is also on a sensor, so it turns on when you walk towards the bathroom. The other night we were lay in bed on our phones talking when the bathroom light suddenly turned on. And the motion activated air freshener also activated at the same time too. I tried to dismiss it as an electrical fault, but then last night DH was brushing his teeth when the toothpaste came flying off the shelf and landed at his feet.

Whenever DS (who's 3) goes up for a wee on his own we hear him having little conversations in there too. When I ask him who he was talking to he dismisses it straight away and says "no one, there's no one here'

I like to think that she's hanging around to see what we did with her home, and to see how happy we all are here Smile

Could someone please link to the nightclub thread

FruBayerischOla · 15/09/2017 08:41

plank, there wasn't an actual thread about it, but the MNer has posted this story on a few 'woo' threads.

"In the late 1970s/early 1980's the place to go was TOTS (Talk of The south), which was a Disco in Southend on sea."

"We used to go every week."

"I started to notice a young man with blond hair. He was always alone and always stood not far from the bar. I would catch his eye and he would stare back but it felt very uncomfortable. He didn't smile back which was very odd as back then I was a gorgeous young thing! ;)"

"He was there every week and although I was having a riot of a time with my girl friends, I did start to look out for him. No one else appeared to notice him as we were all having such a great time."

"He was always dresses the same in shirt and trousers. He wasn't fashionable but he wasn't unfashionable. He was good looking and had a very clear complexion and wavy blond hair."

"I chat to anyone but I always had the feeling of being fearful of him and not to approach."

"I suppose I just got used to seeing him there."

"Fast forward nearly twenty years later and my disco days were long over and my then partner who was in the music business told me that he had to meet someone at the former TOTS. I think there was a name change and instead of a disco it was now a nightclub."

"I decided to go with him to see how much it had changed inside."

"We got there and off he went to meet this chap, it was only a quick chat."

"I strolled around, feeling rather out of place amongst the pretty young things and then wham! Straight in front of me about ten feet away was the boy/man I used to see all of those years ago!"

"Everything around me seemed to fade away and I could not tear my eyes away from him. He was angry, very angry I could feel his anger and I felt terrified. I was fixed to the spot and I cannot find the words to describe just how petrified I was."

"I felt as if I was in grave danger. This young man, perfectly ordinary looking was exactly the same as I'd seen him before. He hasn't aged and his hair and clothes were the same."

"All of a sudden, the world started rushing back into view and I could see and hear everything going on around me, I spun around and knew I had to get out of there as soon as I could. Thankfully my now ex had finished with the bloke he had to meet and I tugged on his arm to get us out of there."

"I have no idea what or why I saw this young man and why he should be so menacing."

"Another poster did suggest that a teenager had been run over and killed nearby but it doesn't explain why this presence would want to scare the crap out of me!"

"He was so scary because he was so normal looking and whatever it was about him had the power to give off the very strong vibe of anger and danger."

Love reading all these spooky stories!

Have a few but this specific one springs to mind...

Last autumn by DH were selling our house, looking for a bigger place as we were starting our family. One of the houses we viewed was a large sandstone building in a bit of a posh area which has lovely old Victorian style homes. The only way we could have afforded this place was because it needed a lot of work inside (it was listed as very dated decor) and we could do it up as an investment project. So we arrive one very sunny lunchtime to be greeted by a nervous looking young estate agent. He explains that the house is owned by a (very old) doctor who does not live there anymore, but in a nearby part of the city, and that he used to operate his practice from the bottom floor... so we go in and it was reasonably creepy downstairs, but as we move to the second floor 'living area' with lots of twisty corridors, we realise all the walls have crucifixes on them... I could already see my husband thinking f*ck this!! So the estate agent gets to the final bedroom and says this 'must have been the babies room', cheering us up a little. We go in and I swear it had the most perfectly preserved 1950's kids wallpaper despite all the other rooms falling apart. Finally, my husband is invited up to the third floor by estate agent which is a library looking down into the living area hall. At the time it could only be accessed by ladder (we had planned to install a new spiral staircase). So up he goes, and when they are up there a few minutes, there is a loud bang, and shouting then my DH and estate agent come firing back down the ladder at high speed saying that a box of books had launched itself at them.

Safe to say we did not make an offer on the property!!

Bloody hell!!! Thanks Fru

LearnFromThePast · 17/03/2018 16:27

When I was younger an old flame and I booked a weekend in a cottage, which we were really looking forward to. I hated it from the second I saw it. It wasn’t creepy looking, quite nice actually, but there was just this horrible feeling about the place. My boyfriend at the time wasn’t woo at all and he said I was being stupid and he convinced me to go in and have a look around.

I found the downstairs bit was fine. When we went upstairs there were two bedrooms almost opposite each other and another at the end of the hallway near the bathroom. We had a nose around, but I found all the initial bad feelings about that house were coming from that back bedroom. All the furniture was covered in sheets so it clearly wasn’t supposed to be used and there was this hulking great wardrobe in the back of the room. I, having watched lots of horror films, made my boyfriend open the wardrobe, which was empty. But when he did, the whole room suddenly felt worse. It just felt as though we were not welcome at all and there was this feeling of anger and hatred. I have never felt anything so strongly. I really wanted to leave, but I quite liked the boyfriend and he was determined to stay and prove I was an idiot. So we went to the pub nearby and drank quite a lot.

The house didn’t seem so bad after wine, so we settled in and went up to bed. I couldn’t fall asleep and had lain there for a while when I heard a door open further down the hall. Then there were these creeping steps coming down the corridor towards our bedroom. It was like someone was trying to sneak towards us. I got out of bed and went to the door and leant against it, just an instinct I had. All went really quiet for a few minutes and then the doorknob beside me turned. Obviously the door wouldn’t open with (fatty) me against it and then it went really quiet again. Right then I felt such a wave of malevolence that I have never forgotten it. It was just sheer hatred and a wish to do harm. Then there were footsteps back down the hall and then the sound of a door closing again. Then I heard another sound which I thought was the wardrobe door in that room.

I didn’t sleep for the whole night obviously. I tried waking the boyfriend but he was having none of it. The next morning my boyfriend insisted on going into the ‘ghost’ room. He marched over to the wardrobe, intending to pull it open, but he couldn’t open it at all. He wasn’t a small man either, but neither of us could shift that door. It was like it had been welded shut. The room smelled horrible and we didn’t fancy hanging around so decided to go.

We left the door to the room open and walked down the hall to grab our bags and then heard a loud bang. We looked around and the wardrobe doors were wide open. We both heard a laugh coming from the bedroom, my non woo boyfriend said later he felt we were in danger. We left rather quickly.

I emailed the owner of the cottage to ask if there had been any weird experiences in there before. She said yes, but only in the back room, which she always kept locked and not to worry as she had the only key to the door with her in Somerset.

Not much of a story really, save for a weird wardrobe and a rattling doorknob, but it was freaky at the time.

Laucu · 18/03/2018 13:36

When I was a child (maybe 6,7,8?) I went on holiday to Greece with my family. We stayed in a self catering apartment and I shared a bedroom with my sister who is 7 years older than me.

I remember one night I couldn't fall asleep, I was tossing and I turned over in bed and looked over at my sister, fast asleep. Then I saw a figure, standing over her bed. The room was dark but the figure was white, very spectral. It was an adult, with long hair but I'm not sure if it was a male or female, and it looked REALLY ANGRY. Then it raised it arms and motioned to swing something (an axe?) at my sister! Scared as hell I turned over and hid under the covers. When I dared look back it had gone!

It was a long time ago and I was young but I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

ChodeofChodeHall · 18/03/2018 19:14

We've had quite a few odd experiences living in this house, but the most recent one was last year. Late one night, I was sitting on the edge of the bed with my back to DH who was sleeping. I had just taken some medication and was waiting for it to go down a bit before I laid back down, sitting there just playing with my phone a bit.

Suddenly, I felt three short taps on my back, one after the other, and it felt for all the world like someone's fingers.

My first thought was that my hair had fallen down from its bun, and my hands rushed up to my head but my hair was still tightly tied (in any case, I have very fine hair and it wouldn't make such a definite tap if it fell down).

I quickly turned around to have a go at DH for prodding me but he was asleep. He is not the type to prank around anyway. I was terrified and woke him up to tell him what had happened.

I don't know if the next bit is just the power of suggestion or DH being paranoid, but the following evening, we were laid in bed, I was asleep, and DH felt three short, sharp taps on his thigh (naked but under the duvet).

Me and dh (bf at the time) where on holiday in Gran Canaria, after quite a heavy nite he went to the pool the next day, I couldn't handle the heat with my hangover so stayed in bed dozing, I suddenly felt someone sit on the end of the bed and when I turned around no one was there. I very quickly legged it to the pool and told dh then he told me that a couple nites before he thought he saw me standing at the end of the bed and asked wot I was doing only to realise I was in the single bed next to him. Needless to say after that the beds where defo pushed together and I slept in at the walk away from the door and the mirrored wardrobes (hate having mirrored wardrobes lying in bed in the dark)
