Or is it fake news?

It’s so disappointing if true…

I am a huge fan and can’t quite believe what I am hearing.

I think people who don't compete have never seen the special treatment that goes with being a "name" which is why this may have been so hard for the person involved to raise. With showing, it's open knowledge that certain producers have judges over for dinner and will pay for the top spots. Lots of horse owners pay for a "name" to ride their green horses and ponies to get that qualification they want. I'm sure eyes are averted to many things. It's one if the reasons so many people have packed in competition (especially showing which has declined enormously over the last five years). Along with that issue, welfare has been raised many times with certain people attending multiple qualifiers up and down the country over one weekend with little care about their animals stood on a box for hours. Sadly, a lot of competition riders are not necessarily horse lovers as well.

I imagine some in these circles are reaching out to her as we speak to show support.

It also goes to show how success, fame and power can turn some people in to monsters.

Yes the timing is appropriate as the video has full impact. If it had been released sooner, it may have been swept under the carpet. She is suspended for 6 months, if that ad happened a year ago, she might still have been riding for GB. Shame on all who silently endorsed and helped normalise such abuse.

Agree.

Sickening, absolute sickening.

apparently there are two danish contestents banned so the owner of the video felt emboldened
she was just on the news on monday with the oppportunity of becoming the highest decorated GB olympian then Tuesday the video was released.
i wonder if there was insider knowledge before the monday's news article.
in any event, it has had the catastrophic effect on CD, which is Good

Yes, it’s mentioned here:

I don’t think she can come back from this ever. I said to DD earlier, I wonder what her fellow professional pals are doing behind the scenes.

The Times are reporting that the honours committee will review her CBE on the outcome of the FEI Investigation.

Oh 100%. I've seen a couple defending her already on social media. Says a lot!!

frostyfingers · 24/07/2024 15:28

When I first heard about this I naively hoped it would be a storm in a teacup, an overreaction or a misreading by those not involved with horses, or even as was initially put about "sour grapes and sabotage". How wrong I was.

I am appalled and so disappointed to see that video - why on earth did she think that doing that was going to help the horse and what the hell did she hope to achieve? I have had horses all my life, and even if one had misbehaved and I'd lost my cool I would not hit it, deliberately and repeatedly like that and god knows how it seems like she found it amusing.

She has completely tarnished how anybody who has or works with horses at any level is seen- we're all likely to be abusers, vile and cruel.

I'm not so stupid to think that similar horrible things do not happen in other yards, and am glad that she's been called out on it but please, anyone who is following this, do not think that this is normal or that all horse people condone this disgusting behaviour.

Uricon2 · 24/07/2024 15:29

I can't ride despite coming from a fairly horsey family, but my views on horses were informed by a close reading of Black Beauty at a young age. At least the more villainous characters in that were not going on about how much they loved them and holding patronages in support of equine welfare. Perhaps someone should send CDJ a copy.

I've watched the whole video and from a complete lay persepective, also think that this was utterly normal to her.

ETA, apologies, meant to post on the other current thread not the Tack Room one!

Holy cow I have just watched the video on Sun Sports - others may have picked up on this already sorry if so but I think Charlotte says "this (the lunge whip) is so shit at hitting them hard". At minute 1.14.
What else does she hit horses hard with ?!?!?
OMFG. I have never been so sickened. Must be the end for her surely.

May she rot in hell, sadistic abusive piece of shit.

millie101 · 24/07/2024 15:31

Also, how weird the Dujardin’s statement of contrition is SO similar to the Danish rider, Carina Cassoe Kruth, who was kicked out of her Olympic national team 2 weeks ago. Similar allegation of animal abuse in elite dressage. Sounds like savvy Olympic PR to me!

StripedPiggy · 24/07/2024 15:32

I have just watched the video. It’s horrendous. There can be no excuses, and no mitigation. She has betrayed the sport which made her famous and the fans who looked up to her. I don’t mind admitting that I cried while watching her & Valegro dance to ‘Land of Hope & Glory’ on that incredible day in Greenwich Park in 2012. 🇬🇧

Charlotte has been a heroine to so many of us for so long that it’s sad to see her career destroyed like this, but she has no one to blame but herself. She must never represent Britain again. I hope all her sponsors dump her, I hope she is kicked out of the sport, I hope her pupils desert her and I hope her business goes bust.

As for why it was released now, the motives are clearly and obviously malicious : To destroy Britain’s chances at the Olympics and to destroy Charlotte’s career. Well, hats off to them, because they have succeeded.

Who are these monsters? Slapping and kicking a frighten innocent horse. How can her define be that it was taken out of context? She beat the horse up. 😡

AvacadoBathroomSuite · 24/07/2024 15:33

oakleaffy · 24/07/2024 15:00

Who was the ''cackler''? {The woman giggling at the whipping} Was that the sponsor who paid for the lesson?

Were there four people there? CDJ , the 'rider', the cackler and one other by the sounds of it?

someone else walks across the camera at one point, so four or maybe five. Things probably common practice and they’re all bloody in on it.

I hope if anyone else is aware of what’s been going on they whistleblow, even if it’s anonymously

AnnieMcFanny · 24/07/2024 15:35

SweetAda · 24/07/2024 15:18

Charlotte was sadistic towards the horse, obviously, but I dare say she enjoyed intimidating and dominating the young rider as well.

My eldest grandchild is a rider, dressage and showjumping, she’s very good but if she’d been on that horse when it was being beaten I think she’d have passed out in shock/terror terror and fallen off.

Thankfully where we live it’s very much a backwater of a country and riding is still at a very basic level. It’s still very innocent.

Pig of a woman. If I’d have been there I’d have shown her the heel of my hand and a kick for good measure.

Looking at the way the FEI is behaving, I think that the ruling bodies will be leaving them to sink in their own cesspits. I am not saying its all going to be whoopy do and hearts and flowers, but the FEI have come out with this thing called Social Licence to Operate, recognising that sport can't continue without the support of the global society in general, not just those who enjoy horse sports. https://inside.fei.org/media-updates/equestrian-sport-have-independent-social-license-operate-commission.

I find your condemnation of what she’s done very strange when you’ve coupled it with your comments above.

The fact is that she destroyed her own career and is responsible for the position the team is in now.

Villagetoraiseachild · 24/07/2024 15:41

All those medals are meaningless now.
I hope this really changes things across the board in favour of animals.
And thank you to the whistle blower.

I don't think it was malicious beyond wanting to get maximum publicity for the idea that doing this is wrong

I feel exactly the same 😥
