Adult new or returning riders up for a chat?

I have recently returned to riding after a very long gap.

I was a very casual rider as an early teen, happy hacking on plodding ponies rather than technical riding. I am thoroughly enjoying having proper lessons now.

I thought it might be nice to chat with other newbies or returners, all non-horsey people in my life and there is only so much they want to talk about it!!!

Also the stables I'm going to is so lovely and welcoming but, in their own words, aimed almost entirely at 8-12 year olds so it would be nice to talk to some adults!

I’m having a lovely weekend pony trekking in Wales for my birthday - I’m on a little 14.2 pocket rocket with the most comfortable canter in the world 🥰

Pleasedontdothat what a wonderful birthday present! Looks as though you've had good weather too.

theferry · 28/04/2024 19:55

@Pleasedontdothat looks amazing! 🤩

Urgh .. back in hospital following a freak sheep related accident… we were cantering along a lovely grass track having done several glorious and uneventful canters before. The last thing I remember was thinking ‘I hope that sheep gets out of the way’ and the next thing I knew was lying on the floor with the guide talking to me. I must have been out for 3-4 minutes and I have no recollection of the fall. I got airlifted to hospital as we were halfway up
a mountain and I’m currently under observation for a small brain bleed. Keeping everything crossed for a speedy recovery 🤞

Oh gosh wishing you all the best @Pleasedontdothat and hope you are out and home soon.

FestiveAuntFanny · 30/04/2024 14:21

Bloody hell @Pleasedontdothat hope you are ok. Your photo the day before looked lovely, at least you can shop for a new hat when you're home!

Floralnomad · 01/05/2024 02:09

Get well soon @Pleasedontdothat 💐

Gremlinsateit · 01/05/2024 03:05

Oh no @Pleasedontdothat I’m so sorry to hear it! Best wishes for a speedy, uncomplicated recovery 💐

Mollyplop999 · 01/05/2024 06:17

Pleasedontdothat how are you feeling today? Best wishes for a speedy recovery

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 01/05/2024 10:06

How awful @Pleasedontdothat - get well
soon!

Pleasedontdothat · 01/05/2024 10:29

I’m getting out of hospital this afternoon 👍. Still can’t remember anything about the fall but I must have landed on soft grass apart from my head which hit a stone as I have absolutely no other injuries apart from cuts and bruises to my face (I’m not exactly looking my best 😳) and the brain bleed. It’s going to take a few weeks to get back to normal and annoyingly I won’t be able to drive for a bit but the doctors say it’s on the very mild end of the spectrum so I should be absolutely fine 🤞

gettingolderbutcooler · 02/05/2024 07:14

@Pleasedontdothat
Cor blimey- you poor thing.
Glass it's nothing serious- and you now have a great dinner party story to regale everyone with.
Do go back riding xxxx

Allthegoodnamestakken · 02/05/2024 07:53

@Pleasedontdothat what terrible luck, wishing you a speedy recovery!

I am having a bit of a crisis of confidence currently, despite never having been a nervous rider I think I need to accept my accident last year as knocked me more than I thought. Horse I ride most weeks had a bit of a hissy fit this week with quite a lot of kicking out and slow motion bucking and I completely panicked. My new instructor is a bit heartless and forced me to ride through it despite me being in a complete state and she did then go beautifully for the rest of the ride so it was probably a good thing she forced me to do it but its hard knowing 6 months ago that it wouldn't have fazed me.

Mollyplop999 · 02/05/2024 16:01

Allthegoodnamestakken you have my sympathy. I'm just the same. I had a nasty fall from my pony in January and I'm now a nervous wreck. I get so angry with myself but sometimes the fear literally paralyses me.

Pleasedontdothat · 03/05/2024 11:05

I’ve just had a lovely email from the mountain rescue team leader - he’d asked me to let them know how I was doing. He signed off by saying he hoped I’d be back riding in no time! I used that as ammunition with my son when he started muttering about not riding again .. and I pointed out that DH had far more hospital trips as a result of cycling and that ds had a couple of nasty concussions playing rugby so frankly he didn’t have a leg to stand on!

gettingolderbutcooler · 07/05/2024 22:50

How are you doing @Pleasedontdothat ?

Pleasedontdothat · 08/05/2024 10:23

Feeling a bit rubbish tbh … still got awful double vision and sooooo tired 😕

Mollyplop999 · 08/05/2024 15:29

Pleasedontdothat that doesn't sound good. Have you got to go back for a further check up?

Pleasedontdothat · 08/05/2024 16:03

I’ve got an ‘urgent’ appointment at the hospital eye clinic next week and will be followed up at some point at the nearest big trauma centre

Floralnomad · 13/05/2024 15:19

How are you feeling now @Pleasedontdothat , have things improved ?

Pleasedontdothat · 17/05/2024 07:27

Starting to feel a bit better @Floralnomad thank you, I’m getting less tired and my vision is thankfully starting to normalise. I’m missing riding my share horse but I’m getting plenty of pony therapy from our little herd at home ☺️

Floralnomad · 17/05/2024 10:33

That is good news , don’t overdo it too soon .

gettingolderbutcooler · 22/05/2024 09:18

I had a week off last week after badly spraining my ankle.
Meanwhile I'm waiting on a hysteroscopy as there are cancerous changes in my uterus and I've got an MRI this afternoon to check for mets 😢
But I'm going for my rainy lesson today as there'll be limited opportunities to go soon.
Xx

Gremlinsateit · 22/05/2024 10:39

Best wishes @gettingolderbutcooler 💐

Pleasedontdothat · 23/05/2024 06:03

sorry to hear that @gettingolderbutcooler I hope you enjoyed your lesson
