Recommend me some wellies!

After yet another pair dying on me after only 4 months I'm at a loss of what to do.

I've tried Hunters, Joules (last 1 year each) and last time I went for a Musto pair really nice neoprene lined and comfy but they split in 3 months and the replacement pair I got musto to send did the same so definitely ones to avoid!

I work full time for the NHS and my horses live out, I don't tend to wear wellies May to September so they don't have a hard life, just used for dog walking and bringing the horses in and out of the field in winter, neither done on a daily basis! Wellies are hosed off and kept indoors afterwards.

I need a pair that is going to last and not leak after 5 minutes of use! Preferably neoprene lined as I use them mainly in winter.

Thanks!

Watching with interest. What were wrong with the joules ones?

Have you tried muck boots? They're a bit more expensive but do get good reviews

MrsMaryMooFace · 28/01/2019 08:36

Aigle Parkour will last year's and years. Ditto Le Chameau

Megan2018 · 28/01/2019 08:43

Just Togs Mudruckers last me ages - the non riding ones. The riding ones are also good for winter hacking but do wear faster. I get 2 winters out of the non riding ones at least.

I also love Town & Country Premium wellies but they aren't neoprene. I use these when it is warmer and the mudruckers in winter.

Grubs Boots Frostline ( think thats what they are called) chunky, good tread and warm. Mine are purple if you dont mind that kind of thing! Avoid hunter, joules etc more fashion wellies these days, only good for a festival then chucking away in my experience x

Cariadxx · 28/01/2019 09:07

@dawglover the joules ones split over the Achilles area, basically where the rubber flexed when walking. Also they're very cold as they're so thin!

I have got le chameau and muck boots on my radar but hesitant about spending another £100 on rubbish! I'll take a look at grub boots too. I don't need ones you can ride in, I've got some fab winter Mark Todd boots I've had for years Grin

I have found aigle to be fantastic, hand made in France, reputedly fantastic support when things fail earlier than reasonably expected (I have heard of aigle replacing wellies at three and five years old but don’t know the circumstances). I have a neoprene lined set for winter and cotton lined for summer. Le chameau I have heard recently moved production for their cheaper wellies to Morocco with a significant fall in quality, but the fully leather lined ones are apparently still hand made in France.

DawgLover · 28/01/2019 10:05

Interesting! I'll give joules a miss then. Muck boots do have a sale on right now, I'm considering a pair from there and will update if I get them x

Aigle boots are brilliant. I have neoprene lined. My feet are always warm. And they last for a very very long time.

niknac1 · 28/01/2019 10:23

My husband has Aigle, I had to persuade him to get them, his have a zip to make getting them on and off easier and fit is better also. We got them in a country shop as online shopping didn’t work for us as it was impossible to gauge fit etc from pictures online. He had to try a few pairs on to get the best fit.

Confusedbeetle · 28/01/2019 10:40

Muck boots are fab, esp in winter. I am on my second pair. First pair lasted 5 years. Worn every day winter and summer. Nepoprene legs are cozy and easy to pull on. I do use a boot jack to pull them off. Socks never wander

WatcherOfTheNight · 28/01/2019 10:41

Aigle here too .
The most comfortable wellies I've ever had & still going strong after a good few years .

Would replace with the same if anything happened to them .

WatcherOfTheNight · 28/01/2019 10:41

Like pp recommend the neoprene lined

Pleasedontdothat · 28/01/2019 12:30

Another vote for Aigle parcours - the comfiest wellies I’ve ever had by miles. Mine are 3 years old and still going strong and just as comfy as ever

Before I got them I’d been going through a couple of pairs a year so despite the initial cost they’ve been brilliant value for money

OldSpeclkledHen · 28/01/2019 14:09

On my second pair of muck boots... love them!! (Even more as my current pair were reduced to less than 30 quid on the muck boot website!) but I do have size 9 feet 🙄

Luckingfovely · 28/01/2019 14:10

Aigle - I won't wear anything else.

StandardPoodle · 28/01/2019 15:52

Aigle - mine are over 3 years old and used twice a day. Still great.

Shmithecat · 28/01/2019 15:55

Aigle, no question.

Canshopwillshop · 28/01/2019 15:57

Aigle

Cariadxx · 28/01/2019 21:11

Well I've ordered some muck boots that were in the sale... let's see how I get on. I'm hoping they fit!

I gave up on wellies years ago and invested in some muck boots, but not the expensive branded ones - I got mine from a farm/country store and they are bloody brilliant! They were less than £60 and although I can't ride in them (far too chunky) they are warm, sturdy and waterproof. I will never go back to wellies!

My last pair of muck boots (again not an expensive pair) lasted about 5 years before they split - I think it was last winter's mud-fest that did for them in the end.

Fazackerley · 29/01/2019 16:37

Aigle parcours with a sheepskin insole. I actually look forward to wearing them.

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2019 16:39

Dunlop

I work on construction sites, farms and rivers. I could, and do, wear them all day. Current pair is 6 years old, I eeesr them for several hours, several times a week. Mine have steel toe caps, but they make “work wellies” without them.

Fazackerley · 29/01/2019 17:06

The only Dunlop ones in our local farm shop are far too wide at the top for me. Rain could get in!!

billybagpuss · 29/01/2019 17:10

I bought Goodyear wellies at the beginning of winter and they've been amazing.

BikeRunSki · 29/01/2019 18:37

I think with wellies you need to go “cheap and agricultural” or “Aigle”. Anything in between seems to be style over substance.
