Have a hand to hold xxxx

nurseneedshelp · 07/10/2013 22:03

Big hugs, how awful, was it colic?

yegodsandlittlefishes · 07/10/2013 22:05

Horribly sad. You must be in bits. Unmumsnetty hugs.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/10/2013 22:05

Had this at DD's stable yesterday. Although they moved the horse to hospital first because of the bloody insurance.

You have my complete sympathy. Been there. Done it. Got the t shirt. Still cry 17 years later

Just bought a horse fir DD and my first thought was, there is another I have to lose.

Sad
ExitPursuedByABear · 07/10/2013 22:06

But I wouldn't be without them.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 07/10/2013 22:06

No, arthritis. Not been done yet, it will be next week. He's in too much pain now to be ridden. We will be able to spend the weekend with him.

i am sorry. Sad

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 07/10/2013 22:33

Thanks. He's my daughter's first horse. She's ridden many but we got him early this year and we're all really attached to him.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/10/2013 22:37

Such a shame. But old horses will have issues. How old is your DD?

Hope she is ok.

nurseneedshelp · 07/10/2013 22:57

Thinkin of all xxxxx

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 07/10/2013 23:03

Thanks. My DD is OK about it, she's seen it happen before as she learnt on older horses. We've just been having a look at pictures of him together and will be going down with the camera to get some nice pics at the weekend. She's in her teens. It was a shock earlier, bit unexpected but I knew what the yard owner was going to say when she phoned me late like that.

Did you buy him or was he on loan?

Littlebigbum · 07/10/2013 23:11

hugs to you both

PeanutPatty · 07/10/2013 23:16

So sorry. So sad to have to make such a hard decision.

Lovesswimming · 07/10/2013 23:55

So sorry you're going through this, we had to make the same decision for the same reason last year, she was only 10, after lots of treatment she still couldn't put her foot down and weight bare.
Sending u hugs

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 08/10/2013 06:33

Thanks. He is a loan horse. We had him on full loan.

FryingNemo · 08/10/2013 06:52

Wishing you all the best. It's a hard time.

Mirage · 08/10/2013 13:12

Thinking of you.We have older ponies and it is something that I dread.

willyoulistentome · 08/10/2013 13:23

Hugs. I lost my girl to colic 5 weeks ago. I'd had her 18years. There's not much to day to you to make it any easier.

Manchesterhistorygirl · 08/10/2013 13:24

Hugs to you and your daughter. Sad

needastrongone · 08/10/2013 13:31

We nearly had this yesterday and so I sympathise completely, I am shattered today.

Went to check on Dpony in the field yesterday afternoon and he couldn't weight bare at all on his front left leg. Just stood there, clearly in pain. Initially took the trailer to the top of the field to bring him in but decided even that would be too risky. Consensus was that his leg was broken to be honest, DD in bits.

Emergency vet, sedation and diagnosis of pulled muscle around the elbow area, thank god. He's obviously stabled and will be for a while but already weight bearing and more like his usual snorty, pacey self at the indignity of being stabled ALONE. Checked him again half an hour ago and gave him another small dose of sedative that the vet had prescribed just to stop the bugger moving. Lord knows how it happened in the first place, the vets best guess was either field antics of just him maybe slipping.

He has taken over my bank balance and our lives since we got him earlier in the year and it's been the steepest learning curve we have ever been on but the thought of him not being here is tough.

Poor you.
