Who the fuck dumps there horse in MY field

MagicLlama · 16/11/2012 20:26

So ive gone down to let my horses in tonight, and there is an extra fucking horse in my field. I know its not mine. I know it wasnt there at 7:30 this morning. I know its been put in because the lock is cut off. CUT off. Theve cut my padlock off to put an additional horse IN!! IN!!

It went crazy when I took mine in to the stables, so I had no choice. Hes now in a stable with a haynet.

Ive rang round locally and noone appears willing to claim him. Ive rang the police, and theve advised me to put un an abandonement notice telling whoever owns him they have 14 days to shift him, before he becomes mine, and apparently hes my legal responsibility in the meantime because hes on my land.

WTF do I do now?

Poor LostBoy.

Could any of the horse welfare charities sponser you to feed him over winter?
What about contacting mounted police, I know they have used TBs in the past.

I too would have concerns about taking an ex racehorse out on gentle hacks with a couple of little children. Have you got someone nearby with a calm horse you could hack out with?

Do you have any stud farms near you? Would the previous yard have his sire/dam details?

He does sound as though he needs to 'man-up' somewhat too! How is he going through mud?

Anyone down south who needs help with their horse? Smile

utahforever · 27/11/2012 16:36

Oh Magic, you sound lovely Smile

He sounds great, but do your pros and cons list first before he gets his hoofs under the rug Grin

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 17:37

er - the mounted police - i hate to break this to you but they are being disbanded at an alarming rate - its not good news for the horses. they will likely be shot.
I was talking to two of our mounted lot the other day - i asked what would happen to the horses, to be met with sympathetic looks....and then one of them mimed a gun to the head.

cutbacks. all to do with cutbacks. some forces are losing their dog sections too.

LulaPalooza · 27/11/2012 18:09
Sad I was loving this thread until I got to your post, Vicar. That's awful.

I work in Westminster and the mounted section often wonder up and down the road my office is in. I luffs hearing/ seeing them clipclop past.

50BalesOfHay · 27/11/2012 18:12

I'll have a Police horse, Vicar, and you could have one as well Smile

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 18:24

i bet actually that they are great to have - they are well trained, they are used to travel, they are used to people and traffic....i wonder how realistic it would be?... they are disbanding the mounted section and its being unified with another neighbouring force which means there will undoubtedly be horses going...

Thundercatsarego · 27/11/2012 18:24

I'll have one too! Will they let us have them to save them being shot?

DreamySleepyNightySnoozySnooze · 27/11/2012 18:26

How can they do that Vicar? That's awful. Surely police horses would be easy to rehome, being presumably bombproof and well looked after? I'll have one, without a second thought!

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 18:33

i actually have no idea but i bet its a lot harder to get one in reality. I dont very often bump into our mounted section - but i would be curious to know what they would propose, i know that retired horses are difficult to get hold of and i believe they are trained in a specific way, im not sure how suitable to reschooling they would be.....but no idea now in this climate where many mounted sections are under threat. would be interested to find out.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/11/2012 19:00

Rebekah brooks will take em all!

Lothian & borders stable their horses at the end of my road. They regularly poo outside my house!

Where I'm from (Grampian) got rid of their horses years ago. It's not just a new thing to disband mounted bobbies.

BuggyMumLovesSweeties · 27/11/2012 19:07

Another one here who would take an ex police horse. Excellent for hacking!

prettybird · 27/11/2012 19:09

I was trying to remember her name Glaikit Grin - I was about to come on and say "that bint with the mass of red curly hair" Blush

Wasn't part of the "proof" of her overly close relationship with the Met that she was providing (free of charge) livery to former police horses - or were they current ones? I remember thinking that whatever else she may or may not have been guilty of (and I'm not a fan of Murdoch papers), the feeding frenzy meeja was not being fair on that one.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/11/2012 19:14

They were retired horses prettybird. Not that I have anything to do with rupes or anything! Nope not me, I just followed the story out of nosiness Wink. They press made it out to be she had been given a horse worth millions of pounds, when I reality they retire them out to fosterers and pay them to look after them (I think I read that somewhere, I might be lying).

Anyway, if they retire and police Shetland ponies, I'll have one. I would save me having to carry ds everywhere!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/11/2012 21:08

Well, thats four of us who would take one! I cant imagine the Met putting perfectly healthy horses down, there would be UPROAR!

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 21:11

i think its kept pretty hush hush for those reasons saggy. im not in the met - im oop north.
i might just see if i can find out what happens to them when the move takes place. i would have one but not sure they are a novice ride (and im a novice)

have primed dh....!

sorry OP for the horsey hijack.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/11/2012 21:30

Please do try and find out!

DreamySleepyNightySnoozySnooze · 27/11/2012 22:02

Yes, if you find out anything, please let us know Vicar.

yani · 27/11/2012 22:21

Vicar - That's awful, so much time is spent on those horses.
A friend had an ex-police horse who was very well mannered and bomb proof.
but shit scared of sheep!

Plomino · 27/11/2012 22:46

I'd have one, definitely . Am looking for another at the moment anyway . Essex are disbanding certainly , as are Avon and Somerset I believe .

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 22:51

ill see if i can find out who to ask when i get back to work - it was a kind of pipe dream of mine to do that job one day but im told that they like people who dont ride at all, to train from scratch and its a dying role now unfortunately - so its highly unlikely - had i ever managed to get in to the mounted section i would have taken my horse - over my dead body would mine be pts....but im not sure if the other bobbies feel that way or not....alot of them drift in and out of that dept from other places and then drift out again.

ill see what i can find out anyway.

dappleton · 28/11/2012 08:59

Sounds like travelers. Have you informed the police?
Please keep us updated....

dappleton · 28/11/2012 09:19

ignore my last comment, i'd on read the first page, brain is frazzled this morning and I failed to see this ran for 14 pages! Blush
Just want to say that I think you are amazing and the horse is very lucky to have 'found' you.

Mirage · 28/11/2012 13:44

Nottinghamshire disbanded their mounted police and had a huge amount of people wanting to rehome the horses. They didn't shoot them.[I'd have one too].

octanegirl · 28/11/2012 14:01

On the subject of ex racehorses - I re train them for a living and must add my tuppence worth - having had dozens and dozens. Don't tar them all with the same brush; they aren't all mad, they don't all have shit feet, they aren't all poor doers. Most live out fine in winter. I've had ones you can pull in after months off, jump on and they don't bat an eyelid, and others that buck and spook no matter how much work they have.
Obviously there are mad, neurotic, skinny nut jobs with bad feet, but much like any breed - you have good 'uns and bad 'uns. Magic is best placed to know what this particular horse is like and therefore best placed to judge him.

Landy77 · 28/11/2012 19:21

Well said octane girl, I have ridden ex- race horses and they were very polite to handle, excellant in traffic a pleasure to do.
Funnily enough a friend had a ex police horse wasn't 100% so never got posted but it's temperament was awful, very rude in the stable and was the most horrible bitting horse, I always thought that was why it didn't go into full police service but apparently not. Saying that though would re- home a police home in need when dd is old enough to hack out with mummy and daddy it would be lovely to have a nice horse rather than our darling duo!!
Good luck with lost boy he sounds like it was meant to be!!!
