Given the assumption of "the rest of mn" that anyone who's ever touched a horse was educated at Benendon - I need to know, do you feel elite? Wink

Pickles77 · 08/08/2012 12:08

Lmao no I do not. Has no one ever been to Newmarket and seen the stable lads Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 08/08/2012 12:09

Hee hee! I think I know where yr question comes from!

Err, nope I'm not feeling especially entitled, elitist or royal today, despite my MN name!

DolomitesDonkey · 08/08/2012 12:27

Yesterday when I went shopping with Athena Onassis I wore my tiara (Claire's).

I am EEEELITE ! I don't even have my butler polish my boots - I simply replace with every wear.

yeah, super elite Hmm welcome to nettle/dock small holding heaven!

CMOTDibbler · 08/08/2012 12:55

No, went to a comprehensive, parents couldn't afford for me to ride, taken it up as an adult when I could afford it

Callisto · 08/08/2012 12:58

As a horse (pony!) owner, I'm far superior to the rest of the plebs that surround me, of course. Hmm

I do find the inverse snobbery on MN both boring and infuriating. Are these people somehow ashamed that they are better educated/richer than the average, or is it sour grapes that they are not as educated/rich than the elite? I can't work out if it is a massive chip on shoulder thing or these people are pretending that they are of the masses. Bizarre either way. I'm deeply middle class, not ashamed or proud of it, it's just my upbringing and lifestyle.

Poledra · 08/08/2012 13:07

No, I am not titled aristocracy. I am worse. I am nouveau riche, and considerably richer then yow

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 13:13

no I am pleb, used my interest in horses to escape from home at 16, spent 6 years as a full time groom/instructor, moved back to education, and now use that invaluable knowledge to help my dd with her pony....Heels DOWN!!!i
[grin]@poledra - how many small businesses in the west midlands have YOW built up from scratch, yow paice of sh.it!!

DolomitesDonkey · 08/08/2012 13:20

Mary a pleb? I bet you don't even have a REAL pony - it's probably just a blanket thrown over a chair and you bang coconuts together! Wink

Callisto I couldn't agree more - I'm middle-class, it would appear you and I are the only ones on mumsnet.

Poledra Ugh. I can't decide now whether you're a toff or a "50 shades" reader!

Yes,the chippiness of Mumsnet astounds me.No one can help the family they were born into and why should they be ashamed if they are better off than some?I have a friend like this who wouldn't let her daughter go to Pony Club as 'they are all posh stuck up snobs there'.She had no evidence to back this up,of course.Hmm

I'm a farmer's daughter,work as a gardener,we are probably middle class.

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 13:24

no! I've been sussed! Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/08/2012 13:25

I have never touched a horse, however I am titled............

DolomitesDonkey · 08/08/2012 13:25

The "poshest" (i.e., aristocracy) that I do know are the ones with baling twine holding their cars together and wear 30 year old tweed.

It's a prevailing attitude on mn that "it's not fair" - they won't fucking get off their arses and do something. All this bleating about "no opportunities" - I've said before, TWICE I've been pregnant and couldn't get anyone to ride my nag FOR FREE (no stable duties required) - and both times an utter failure. The response to that ? "Yeh but, no but".

It's easier to whine about the perceived "toffs" than it is to walk/catch a bus to your local riding school and beg for work + rides. Angry

Dolomites I am deeply deeply offended at you suggesting that I might read '50 Shades' Shock!!

DolomitesDonkey · 08/08/2012 13:39

I'm deeply offended by your money. It's soooooooooo unfair. I bet you don't even shop at Primark.

Whyyyyy, oh whyyyyy won't you just give all your money to the poor ponieless disadvantaged Guardian-reading childrens?

OP posts:
Poledra · 08/08/2012 13:46

Coz I give most of it to my local stable yard, that's why Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 08/08/2012 13:55

Guardian? [puzzled face]

Oh Groaniad!

Chippiness & victim culture totally endemic in UK. Why is it unfair that someone is better off than someone else? someone always is!

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 14:03

Chippiness & victim culture totally endemic in UK.- so true, my dd is always talking about her pony at school right? and her form teacher called her 'a spoilt little rich kid'!!! if only she knew that we actually live in a paper bag with second hand undies!

Callisto · 08/08/2012 14:09

For some reason, I always assume that MN is exempt from the chippy-victimism of the wider world. I'm always disappointed.

Mary - if DD's teacher had called her that I would be bloody furious. Unlikely here in Poshcestershire though, where every other child has their own pony. And it is a bog-standard state primary.

We do it on a shoestring too - the assumption that one has to be rich to have horses is ridiculous. Especially as there are lots of Olympic sports where the cost of kit is at least equal to owning a horse.

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 14:13

if DD's teacher had called her that I would be bloody furious oh I was, callisto, I was. But there's only so many times you can jump out of your pram at the school, know what I mean?

Callisto · 08/08/2012 14:15

I know. What a thing to say to a child though. And from a teacher, who are surely meant to be kind and open minded, not cruel and prejudiced.

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 14:18

hmmm....so one would hope....Hmm

DolomitesDonkey · 08/08/2012 14:26

I suppose pulling up outside the gates in your Cayenne and having the driver open the doors for you has made her reach this conclusion?
