Given the assumption of "the rest of mn" that anyone who's ever touched a horse was educated at Benendon - I need to know, do you feel elite? Wink

Frosty Fingers crossed for your boy.Have you got any dates for x rays ect yet?

Pixel · 09/08/2012 19:28

Well I could have cheerfully throttled Nick Skelton yesterday. We had a long thread full of people patiently explaining why riding takes such skill and athleticism and that it really isn't a case of just sitting on the horse while it does all the work. Then Clare Balding asks NS what it feels like to ride a horse as good as Big Star and what does he say? "It makes my job easy, all I have to do is sit there" Hmm
Of course he was just being modest and he's used to the audience only really being horsy people who will know that's not true at all, but I immediately hoped that certain people on MN hadn't heard him! Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 09/08/2012 19:35

THAT thread needs to be petrol bombed! I got fed up of being baited by an ignoramus, pages ago, bit it is still wittering on! She is just deliberately winding people up!

I'm sooooooo rich, my head girl types all my dictated responses on MN.

DolomitesDonkey · 10/08/2012 04:17

That's nothing.

I'm so posh I don't read mn online, Justine Mumsnet personally delivers the chat forums daily in leather-bound journals.

Although I am the eldest, the title - extremely minor, Italian aristocracy, very common, really - and the name that goes with it, like a second surname, pass to my brother after my Dad, who is still well alive. There is not a penny (or Euro, or Lira) to go with it, but my mother took pity on me in one of my ranting states Blush and gave me the necklace that goes with it. I do not dare wear it in case i loose it, so not much good there!

spamm · 10/08/2012 04:25

Not sure what happens after my brother though, as he has twin boys...hadn't even thought of that one!

spamm · 10/08/2012 04:31

I just wish the horses would recognize the sheer importance of the title and do some bloody work themselves! Fed up with cleaning the stables myself! I do not do any riding - too scared of them. I just muck out.

Zhaghzhagh · 10/08/2012 04:45

I got a letter from an airline addressed to Princess Zhaghzhagh recently. I always put that down when airlines ask what your "title" is. Never get an upgrade though.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/08/2012 10:24

My dad really is a laird! I bought the title for him for his birthday. from eBay he owns a square foot of land in a Scottish wood! Grin

Alameda · 10/08/2012 16:40

what's happening frosty?

one of my uncles had a title, he sold it (went with the house I think), am not even sure that sort of title counts though?

I wish STUBBLE FIELDS were an olympic sport, easily going for gold there.

brighthair · 10/08/2012 16:42

I work for the NHS. That probably says it all Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/08/2012 16:50

If there was a class for generally being haring about on horseback, you would win it, Alameda! Grin
How's barney?

Alameda · 10/08/2012 17:06

I would excel wouldn't I! Grin

he's better than ever thanks, really excited to be back in work and surrounded by STUBBLE FIELDS (I LOVE THEM TOO!) hooray :)

prelim29 · 10/08/2012 19:45

I'm a single parent, went to the local comp (as do my DCs) - we have 2 horses, and I work prob 60 hours a week to pay for them.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 12/08/2012 21:58

I'm well posh me, I've got my name monogrammed on my numnah in proper real diamond effect crystals so no one on the yard is temped to nick it.
Seriously no, I'm as rough as a bears arse as you can all tell. I've slogged my guts out for years keeping my horse on DIY, horse had more new shoes in a month than I had in a year.
No idea where people get this odd notion that all horse people are rich, anyone who owns a horse knows that horses and financial solvency are mutually exclusive.

Loshad · 13/08/2012 09:23

It's that old joke isn't it. How do you make a small fortune from horses
Start with a large one.

Mirage2012Olympics · 13/08/2012 10:27

I thought everyone knew that horses=no money but a friend of ours obviously didn't.He has millions and thought he'd buy a team of eventers as an investment. He had a beautiful quadrangle stable yard built,an olympic sized school, bought his horses and a huge lorry. He was then surprised that they lost him money and ended up selling all of his horses and the lorry. The yard and school sit there unused for most of the time.

He should have asked me first,I'd have told him.Wink

Xabian · 18/08/2012 17:23

not titled.... i have to work bloody hard so that my DD can have a pony.

most of the other families on our yard are the same....... both parents working full time so that the children can have a pony on grass livery.

My DD is aware of how lucky she is as she sees how much everything costs when we go to the tack shop

We are getting ready for pony club camp so at the moment the money is going out faster than i can earn it! Shock

castlelough · 24/08/2012 11:00

Myself and dh have a TB in training, and I find I have to be so careful in the way that I mention it and who I mention it to.
I bought him for ?200 (he was destined for the factory at the tender unbroken age of three) and it takes all our disposable income to keep him. We currently rent/haven't been approved for a mortgage (possibly because all our money is going out on our horse!) and we rarely have holidays/luxuries. That's our choice.... but sometimes people's reactions can be a bit nasty! I can't even afford to go riding anymore, but I wouldn't change things!
It may be the sport of Kings but neither of us have a title, and will probably remain peasants at this rate!

TheWonderfulFanny · 24/08/2012 11:39

I have a title. Well, more of a nickname.

monsterchild · 31/08/2012 05:12

no title here, just a nice little farm with animals. Where I am horses are more just part of the culture/landscape than any special status symbol.

conorsrockers · 31/08/2012 06:36

Benendon?

gordyslovesheep · 31/08/2012 23:16

I am a lone parent, public sector worker with 3 kids - not a title to be seen
