I am REALLY glad that I am not an Olympic cross country rider!

Greenwich course looks terrifying! The castle shaped jump in the sand arena is exactly the same colour as the surface. That has to be a serious challenge for the horse! And there are a couple, the moo. Jump for one, where they are jumping into the unknown!

do you know, i dont know . but i will definitely be checking next time he goes. i know that they did mention something to me the next lesson about safety stirrups but i really cant remember Shock

Superb round from Zara. High Kingdom didn't put a foot wrong.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/07/2012 16:30

That happened to dd. she was riding on too large bendy irons! As she fell off, her foot went right through. It put me right off that sort. Even at 13 she still has peacock irons!

that long gallopy bit under the trees looks lovely doesn't it? not the drop and then the little skinny thing though, I feel like I am falling off every time I watch and imagine leaning back and then trying to push on straight away

obviously if horse was sound we could do the entire course sideways, no problem (apart from that drop, not sure about that)

Quicksie · 30/07/2012 16:41

The big drop and the skinny thing.....erghhhhhhh shudder

BlueChampagne · 30/07/2012 16:48

I might have a go at the practice fences if I was feeling brave! Lots of skinnies on that course.

Did Zara lose her silk at some point? A great souvenir for one of the marshalls!

Callisto · 30/07/2012 17:10

I must say that overall, I'm very impressed by the Japanese team.

Callisto · 30/07/2012 17:12

Bugger, spoke too soon and hexed the poor chap.

I think Team GB had a really good round - very consistent and apart from a few time penalties, clear. Frustrating that the German team have also had a good round but there we go. I thought High Kingdom and Miners Frolic gave a beautiful display, Mary King showed real stickability, that horse was pulling so hard, and WFP did well on a fairly young horse. Opp Buzz produced yet another outstanding pathfinder round too - we should be so proud of them all, it's a huge achievement on a course which produced problems all over the place.

Some of those falls came from trying to make the time and going too fast, especially down some of those drops and hills, but it must be so hard to judge it right. I think Latino is ok, probably sore/lame but generally ok - they put the screens up a lot - it's better for the horse and the spectators not to be on full view. Fingers crossed that no one/horse is too sore.

frenchfancy · 30/07/2012 18:46

Loved it :) - Thank heavens for live streaming on the internet (in France and it isn't on live TV).

My favourite horse was the last Swedish horse - how lovely was he?

QuietTiger · 30/07/2012 20:04

Saggy - I'm 40 and still have Peacock irons!

QuietTiger · 30/07/2012 20:07

But then I will also point out, that yes, I use peacock irons, but we never barely get out of walk because lardarse is too grumbly and arthritic

rogersmellyonthetelly · 30/07/2012 20:23

Apparently horse and rider both ok, but that's not confirmed, only twitter. I always cringe when the screens go up for the horse, it's rarely good news.

Butkin · 30/07/2012 23:17

Had a brilliant day there. Dropped off at the door without any traffic problems and marshalls absolutely brilliant - no hassles anywhere. Whilst some of the jumps were easy - by 4 star standards - the terrain was tough and the views were breathtaking. Lots of natural ampitheatres where you could relax and watch a jump and the many big screens. We saw somebody jump every jump and lots of people at the two water complexs. If you could walk up and down steep hills then it was all much more compact than, say, Burghley. Loved it and well done the British team!!

Callisto · 31/07/2012 07:02

Glad it was as good on the ground as it was on the tv and that you had a great day. I thought that the half moon jump with the backdrop of Canary Wharf was stunning.

horseylady · 31/07/2012 14:26
