Do I laugh or Cry?

Ok, I advertised my cremello pony for sale.... today I thought I would give him a nice bath as the weather is good and somebody is coming to see him.
This is what the little troll looked like 30 seconds after I put him in the field...

tinypic.com/r/116oz29/6

I dont have the time or patience to bath him again... any ideas?

Haha! I laughed .

I can't imagine anyone would be put off by him being dirty. I would brazen it out and not even mention his filthy state to the potential purchaser.

EggyChick · 22/05/2012 16:23

I feel your pain, I have a grey. I with the 'brazen it out' team and if she wants to see his colour scrape a bit off... Not helpful.

LowRegNumber · 22/05/2012 16:23

Wait till he is totally dry and give him a good brush, most of it should go if he was clean and dry underneath... He was dry wasn't he? Don't you just love equines? Grin

UnChartered · 22/05/2012 16:31
Grin

i'm not laughing, honest

good luck with the sale

horseylady · 22/05/2012 16:41

Whoops!!!

hickerybobp · 22/05/2012 16:42

LowRegNumber, he wasnt completely dry Blush

The even more embarrassing part is that in the pictures on the advert he looks like a little unicorn with flowing white hair.... I really don't think she is going to be impressed, especially as she is driving a long way.
Oh Dear

Laugh about it. Anyone sensible coming to look at a pony will look past the mud, if they don't, then they don't deserve to buy him anyway.

Mirage · 22/05/2012 20:41

Dpony does this too.She has a sixth sense when she needs to be clean and before now she has seen me coming to fetch her in,looked me right in the eye and got down and rolled. She is grey so it looks terrible.Even worse was the time she was going to the Opening Meet and had been scrubbed and plaited within an inch of her life.As there was no mud,she rubbed her face up and down a creosoted stable door. The poor girl riding her nearly fainted with horror.Grin

Anybody who knows ponies will look past the mud-good luck!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 22/05/2012 21:20

I've SOOO been there. I have a snowy white welsh A, who is an absolute little shitbag on show days! Her pre show routine starts three days before, with the initial bath, to remove the worst dirt. The next day she gets her degreasing bath, to attend to the layer of scum which lingers around the root of her mane and tail. The day of the show, she gets legs, face and stable satins scrubbed. By this point she looks like a unicorn. IF she doesn't, at this point, slip her head oar, leg it and roll in the muck heap, bloody little Houdini she is then bandaged, hooded, rugged, and has her tail plaited into the leg of a pair of tights, and bandaged.
Now you would think, that she would then remain spotless and sparkling, until she entered the ring. WRONG! The minute she sees the trailer, she gets excited, sending her instantly into season, and causing explosive neon green diarrhoea! Requiring another wash down when she gets to the showground. I'm not sure why I love her so much?! It probably has something to do with the delightful comments people make, asking how I get her so white!....if only they knew! Confused

LowRegNumber · 22/05/2012 22:58

Oops Grin if it helps dm did the same to us this evening and she is white (proper white with pink skin) so now looks... Well, like a cow really!

I agree, buyer needs to see through mud or they will quickly become bored with the labour a lighter pony brings. See it as part of your vetting process, you are testing their commitment Wink

LowRegNumber · 23/05/2012 15:55

So how did the viewing go? Did brushes make any impact?

hickerybobp · 23/05/2012 17:05

The people didnt take him, but had a lot more interest and one lady sounds ideal, she wanted to come and see him....
unfortunetly I had to phone her back and say she couldnt come and see him.... as I've lost him!!! His field backs onto welsh mountains/hills and some wild pony's appeared, as I walked up I could see them the other side of the fence and him right there with them, I called to him and started shaking his feed, this scared the wild ponies (I didnt know they were wild at the time, I didnt have a clue where they had come from). Then the wild ponies ran away and he jumped the fence and has run off with them!!!! I'm worried sick. :(

I've been in touch with the RSPB as its their nature reserve where the wild ones are MEANT to be, and the man in charge of them is going to try and round them up.

This is so awful and typical!!!

I've got the shakes just from worry :(

OP posts:
LowRegNumber · 23/05/2012 17:10

Oh my word how dreadful, I am not surprised you are shakey Sad

I assume if he is with them at the round up you will get him.given back? I just don't know what to say, I would be past myself!

LowRegNumber · 23/05/2012 17:10

Do you know when they will attempt the round up?

hickerybobp · 23/05/2012 17:48

He was going to try today as its only 4 of his that have escaped the conservation land but I cant get hold of him at the moment.

The land they are on is very hard to access aswell and its a huge expanse, my OH followed them for about 3 miles over hills and its so steep in places, also they are true wild ponies so you cant get close to them.
Also my pony has no company here, I had my old mare PTS a few weeks ago and he has been alone, so he's loving the company of other horses!

This is a disaster/nightmare.

I dont even know if my pony is running with, mares, colts or even if the stallion is with them (I know there is one that they have).

Hope he doesnt get hurt, I feel really helpless.

OP posts:
SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/05/2012 17:53

CRIKEY! If it's any consolation, as a gelding, a stallion probably won't take much notice. I'm sure you will get him back, try not to worry too much. {{hugs}}

hickerybobp · 23/05/2012 18:58

Thats the thing, he isnt a gelding! :(
He's a 11 month colt!

YIKES :(

As much as I'm in panic I keep telling myself that he is probably having great fun and he doesnt give two hoots. At least thats what I'm trying to hope is the case.

I feel like I should be doing more but I have no idea what I can actually do. :(

OP posts:
Mirage · 23/05/2012 19:35

Oh no! I'll keep everything crossed that he is home safe and sound soon.Sad

BonkeyMollocks · 23/05/2012 19:38

Oh no, just read this, had a giggle then :(

I hope he comes home safe and sound!

Keep us posted!

SaggyCeratops · 23/05/2012 20:58

I also have an 11 month old colt. He's just a baby. The stallion will very probably pay him no mind at all. The mares will probably tell him to bog off. He will soon get bored of being told to go away and decide to come home!

LowRegNumber · 23/05/2012 22:15

I agree at 11mo he should be pretty much tolerated and is prob just enjoying the gallop. I do hope this has ended well and you are off picking him up. Have everything crossed for you

LowRegNumber · 24/05/2012 15:53

Any news? Have been checking all day hoping x

hickerybobp · 24/05/2012 15:59

He's back Grin He's covered in ticks, has a few little scabs and grazes, looks a bit sore and tired but mostly he's fine! (and thats just the OH who went up the mountain to get him).

Big sighs of relief here. Thanks everybody.

It's actually made me think about keeping him so now I'm looking for somewhere to keep him when I move :)

OP posts:
LowRegNumber · 24/05/2012 21:55

Oh that is wonderful news! I am so pleased he is none the worse for his adventure. Poor oh doing all the walking though Grin

Hope you find somewhere, are you going to geld him or try to get somewhere stallion proof?

pamplemousse · 24/05/2012 22:03

There I was giggling slightly at your naughty muddy pony then the traumatic part of him escaping came! So glad you got him back. I'm sure my old Exmoor mare would have done the same if wild ponies had come to her field, she was obsessed with other horses as she lived alone. Would some company for him improve matters?
Sorry to hear about your old mare x
