Broom cupboard 4 - soon be time to think about heating this place

Will post this on the end of the other thread too but I have just found this:

If you are identified as a contact and asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, including by the NHS COVID-19 app you may be entitled to a payment of £500 from your local authority under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate you may also be entitled to this payment.

^Presumably that is all of the 'thought' that has gone into the situation I've been talking about. Still doesn't tell us if we would be seen as taking unauthorised leave or able to work from home or anything - need union specific advice on that.

You no longer have to declare one of the three “main” symptoms in order to legitimately get a PCR. No announcement of this of course!

Yup rule, that backs up the kellmerg (?) tweet I posted earlier, with the gender difference too though.

Ds off school. Very sore throat and general tired and grotty.

I'm not in till late morning and I'm hoping the rain might stop before then.

Sorry to those ill with or with children ill with covid. Don't suppose there's been anymore said about a 2 week circuit break at half term anywhere?

Has DS tested @TheHoneyBadger? Those were my exact first symptoms.
TheHoneyBadger · 27/09/2021 10:21

He's done lft over weekend and I'll do another one tonight so he's had a good few days since he was in school and around people so if it is that he should have some antigens built up.

I feel like I can't isolate and order pcr though for every sore throat or he'll never be in school because there's so many bugs going round. Predictably he's perked up loads since I agreed to him not going to school.

AttaGirrrrl · 27/09/2021 11:07

No, I totally agree. If we kept dc off for every sniffle, they’d never be in. I LFTed negative for the first two days of sore throat, then very faint positive on day 3. My DC results came back negative, but I can’t bring myself to send them to school. It just seems so wrong! I’ve ordered home tests for them and won’t send them in until they get a second negative. ‘Luckily’, they’re head is very risk averse so I don’t think she’ll mind!

AttaGirrrrl · 27/09/2021 11:07

*their!!!

Fuck. I must be really ill.

Headline front page of the Telegraph “New Education Secretary vows to keep schools open”. Blah blah unions want them to close blah.

Oh. I did think it seemed a wise course of action and therefore unlikely to unhappen.

Remember ‘changes to travel rules just in time for half term - holiday industry breathes sigh of relief’ headlines a couple of weeks ago? Soon as I saw those I thought ‘bang goes that half term circuit breaker idea’!

noblegiraffe · 27/09/2021 17:31

Anyone else looking forward to the review of LFT testing for schools due the end of September? Any bets?

Lots of people putting in lots of work to get it binned.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/09/2021 17:41

They could just close schools not the whole economy. I'd happily support the travel industry about now.

Yes, let's bin testing. No testing, no cases. Simples.

Free schools and Teach First. It's all so boringly predictable. Does anyone just want to do the right thing for ordinary good teachers in a ordinary good state schools?

Piggywaspushed · 27/09/2021 18:13

What?? Aaargh!

namechangedyetagain · 27/09/2021 19:17

Am half way through a bottle of wine. I can't do this. I'm teaching rubbish lessons, I can't reach everyone, i have abilities ranging from YR to Y4 in my class, SEN with whom i don't know what else to try. I'm 4 weeks in. I love them all but I'm failing them and I am not cut out for this.

DollyMixtureLulus · 27/09/2021 19:24

It’s so hard name, but it is not your fault. Do your best. You aren’t going to address all of those issues yourself and that’s ok Flowers

DenbyChina · 27/09/2021 19:25

Take a deep breath name and put down the wine

You’re not failing, you’re learning. You wouldn’t tell your students that their work is rubbish, and that they’re a failure for not picking up everything first go. It’s really tough doing this job at the moment. You’re doing better than you think. And ask for help!

You've said it yourself, you're 4 weeks in. That's no time at all!!! It's such a tough thing to do, especially with that range of abilities, there's no way anyone expects you to be brilliant already. Quietly competent and asking for help with how to support the very weakest kids, that's the aim at this stage.
WhenSheWasBad · 27/09/2021 19:27

You’re not failing name

Ask for help. Also I’ll bet your lessons are way better than you think. I found my NQT year horrifyingly hard.

It got better after Christmas. Good luck

MrsHamlet · 27/09/2021 19:36

Says who?

I can't reach everyone, i have abilities ranging from YR to Y4 in my class SEN with whom i don't know what else to try.

Have you spoken to the SENCO?

ChloeDecker · 27/09/2021 20:10

name - go easy on yourself lovely. You can’t do everything all at once in the first 4 weeks of term.

I remember someone telling me to pick on thing and focus on getting that sorted over a few weeks before thinking of the next issue. So, focus on one area and see if you can try and find out what works on that one area and get through the day on everything else.

The fact that you are getting through each day, shows you are a winner (((((high five)))))

ChloeDecker · 27/09/2021 20:13

Bloody hate Teach First. Over the years, I have given so much of my time for free to help each newbie, only for them to bugger off to Independents or a ‘consultancy’/management role shortly after, leaving us minions to deal with what they leave behind. Angry

One thing they could do for ordinary teachers who actually stay in the classroom is to reward them financially-not just keep giving the financial carrots to new trainees only.

MrsHamlet · 27/09/2021 20:16

It's a cult, I swear.
