You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

You can sit on chairs but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays. You do not have to wear mask - free choice
@Appuskidu - see my earlier post - I’d misremembered the details, £20 voucher if sent home and tests and survey completed rather than £25 for positive. I don’t know if that’s better or worse!
Ahhh, right-sorry I didn’t read properly.

No, I’m not sure if that’s better or worse!

What’s probably worse of all of it, is that we all know, that no matter what the results of the trial were, the government and the press would report it to have been a success and no matter what scientists said about it, they’d just be criticised for being pinkie lefties with an agenda!

CarrieBlue · 26/07/2021 12:47

It was always going to be spun as a complete success, completely agree!

Monkeytennis97 · 26/07/2021 13:25

@DreamingofBrie I'm a pianist and a first study woodwind player (in orchestras), don't want to say which instrument as may be a bit too outing. I also play violin and viola and can play school band stuff on brass too. I love messing about on all instruments tbh!

Monkeytennis97 · 26/07/2021 13:28

@DreamingofBrie love it!!

Younger teachers will end up better off given suspicions of how quickly immunity wears off and how little talk of boosters there seems to be.

TheHoneyBadger · 26/07/2021 13:53

Sorry, tad negative.

DanglingMod · 26/07/2021 14:12

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned that I got mine v early because of CEV dh but there seems to be no sign of a booster for relatives of CEV...

DanglingMod · 26/07/2021 14:13

And I just miss out on the over 50 thing.

noblegiraffe · 26/07/2021 14:34

Surely they'd do boosters by date of 2nd dose than try to work out groups again?

Hercisback · 26/07/2021 14:49

Semi hopeful of boosters by occupation, surely that makes more sense. Teachers, NHS, carers etc first. WFH last.

noblegiraffe · 26/07/2021 15:21

The booster is because the vaccine wears off over time though, so giving a booster to a teacher who only got their second jab a couple of months previously makes no sense.

Hercisback · 26/07/2021 16:27

Good point noble. Hadn't thought of it like that. Otoh will they be able to boost everyone who needs it before winter?

noblegiraffe · 26/07/2021 16:31

God knows. Presumably all those places that got turned into vaccine centres will be needed back for their original purpose?

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/07/2021 16:43

I think the money to incentivise students to get a PCR for the trial was fair enough HOWEVER it means that the trial doesn’t translate to real life, surely??

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/07/2021 17:33

Good point:

The Sixty-Fifth Republic - The Covid School Phoney War under way so who will the gold medal and who will get the wooden spoon?
TheHoneyBadger · 26/07/2021 17:59

The outline plan is to prioritise cev people and over 50's followed by people 18-49 who are considered vulnerable to covid or flu. The latter is the group I was vaccinated in last time. Mine were in March and May I think.

noblegiraffe · 26/07/2021 18:00

I think they were suggesting doing it at the same time as the flu jab?

TheHoneyBadger · 26/07/2021 18:01

Oh sorry just remembered it was also health and social care frontline workers too - but we weren't counted as part of that group last time despite doing the entire social care programme for young people single handed pretty much as everyone else was working from home.

DanglingMod · 26/07/2021 18:46

@noblegiraffe

Surely they'd do boosters by date of 2nd dose than try to work out groups again?
I really hope so. I think I was the second or third fully vaccinated staff member in the whole school.
Hercisback · 26/07/2021 18:49

I don't see how they can justify not boosting teachers. We'll be the only people exposed to large groups of non vaccinated people. Even care and NHS is majority adults who have been mostly vaccinated.

I had my vaccine in March as a leftover but could fall in the not protected but gets no booster category as I won't qualify on age or CV.

StationView · 26/07/2021 19:33

Oh, Herc, Herc, Herc....

This shower of shite will simply do some Orwellian doublethink and declare (like last autumn) that teachers are safe because school children cannot spread Covid.

Whilst at the same time conducting press conferences with no journalists allowed in the room Angry

Hercisback · 26/07/2021 19:49

Station I know. The holiday positivity is filling me with false hope.

Medra · 26/07/2021 19:56

I’m early 40s and won’t be double jabbed until later this week. I could have moved the 2nd jab forward but I didn’t want to end up needing time off work after the first one had knocked me out for a couple of days.
