You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

You can sit on chairs but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays. You do not have to wear mask - free choice

We're our own worst enemy, aren't we? But being ill is such hard work...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/07/2021 21:19

@noblegiraffe

Surely that's the temperature where you decamp outside and sit under a tree?
We have a square of tarmac as a playground. No trees.
eitak22 · 20/07/2021 21:28

Rule my schools the same and the few trees we had wee removed to add equipment :( there's no shade.

CallmeHendricks · 20/07/2021 21:28

Sky has gone black here and ominous rolls of thunder all around.

We SO need this storm.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/07/2021 21:35

Haven’t they ditched the megabucks conference room because it was too ridiculous or something? Can’t remember exactly.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/07/2021 21:43

We've had the storm but it's still hot and stuffy I'm afraid so don't get your hopes up too high Ang.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/07/2021 21:52

No storm here. Forecast is for hot and sunny til Saturday, then it clouds over for a couple of days.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/07/2021 22:09

twinkletoesimnot · 20/07/2021 22:19

We had a water fight this afternoon!
Bliss 😂

BigBobBoots · 20/07/2021 22:20

I think I've just PMed you Jan.
There was thunder a couple of hours ago but no storm yet.

FlagsFiend · 20/07/2021 22:34

@TheHoneyBadger

No need to quit but I certainly won’t be going into school if positive. Surely any teacher with a conscience will say they feel too ill and take the hit to their absence record?

How could we ever face parents or children claiming we take our responsibility to them and our whole community seriously if we put them at risk like that?

When I had covid I was too ill to work - I rang in to say regardless of my PCR result (as it wasn't back yet) I wasn't coming in. I then had to ring back when I got the positive to let them know. If it hadn't run into the holiday I'd have been off sick for 3 and a half weeks...
JanFebAnyMonth · 20/07/2021 23:20

The forecast is so hot for the next three days that the deputy head has decreed that all students can come in in PE kit all day every day.

This is RADICAL for our school!

HSHorror · 21/07/2021 00:33

So with the app. If the person doesnt isolate do you think it carries on pinging surrounding people to tell them to isolate...

HSHorror · 21/07/2021 01:44

Dc2 now has d&v.

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/07/2021 05:52

Envy of those heading for holidays.

I've only done three days of remote teaching and I'm over it. The students are very flattened in mood, too. Nine weeks to the next holiday.

DanglingMod · 21/07/2021 07:14

It's been 29-30 here for 6 days. Forecast to drop by 2 degrees today. Big woo.

Wonderful!

DS1's school decided this for the full week a while back, mostly outdoor stuff under the heading of well being (more like none if the staff want to catch it and be isolating!)

They've even had water pistol fights 💦!

WarriorN · 21/07/2021 07:22

I managed to squeeze a body boarding session in yesterday while DS was at nursery.

Oh and - twat/s:

WarriorN · 21/07/2021 07:29

Effing hell Rule, 38?!

Your school always sounds like it needs flattening and re building from scratch.

Riga, the Durham trial sounds interesting. And something that will never evert become the norm in a school. At least, not a state school.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/07/2021 07:33

Not sure U4T will think much of this

TheHoneyBadger · 21/07/2021 07:49

Ds has somehow managed to wear PE kit for the whole school year. He does PE Btec or has PE most days and has just blagged it throughout assuming no one will know whether anyone has PE or not. Going to be a shock for him going back to shirt and tie and blazer in September. Wish they'd keep the wear PE kit on PE days though personally - rather than split multiple rucksacks a year trying to shove everything into them.

We've got a much cooler day with only a 26 degree high. After days and days of 30 it may feel cooler.

Kudos and strength to all still working

motherrunner · 21/07/2021 08:56

Love it @TheHoneyBadger. Pretty sure that’s why DH became a PE teacher so he could wear shorts all year round.

Still 30 degrees here - won’t drop til Saturday. Inset my alarm for 5 and went out for a run and I still felt ill.

motherrunner · 21/07/2021 08:57

I set.

My phone deliberately changed all my words to educational links.
