You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

It is a very worrying list.

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:11

What’s more worrying are the comments in my post - no one seems to care.

CallmeHendricks · 06/03/2021 19:18

When people were asked to rate from 1-10 their concerns about schools opening, there was a large contingent saying 1.

lonelyplanet · 06/03/2021 19:23

I do worry that this term that far more parents will send kids in even if they suspect covid. People are so keen to have their children back that they won't want to isolate. People saying 1 will be the risk takers.

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 19:25

They all said they weren't concerned last time either. MN is a middle class bubble of people who consider themselves more than averagely healthy and who largely aren't in any of thehe demographics most affected by covid. It seems to bring with it an arrogance, complacency and lack of empathy in many cases. Faux concern for the workers is not empathy.

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 19:26

As predicted before looking, my area on the Indie Sage list. May not tell DH this.

ChloeDecker · 06/03/2021 19:29

What a surprise. No London area on that list so they are just saying ‘sod everyone else and let’s all go back!’ Hmm

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:32

And no surprise about the comments in my thread. ‘No bubbles bursting in my child’s school’. SO WHAT? I though MN parents were all about ‘narrowing the gap’ but the gap will ever widen between schools like mine (multiple isolations) and those who didn’t close.

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 19:33

You are just going to get

a) Indie Sage bashers
b) teacher bashers

I'm afraid!

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 19:34

It does explain why schools in my DS's LA aren't going back til all 3 LFTs have been done though...

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:36

Now got someone petitioning for no masks.

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 19:40

Report that mother...

Beachhuts90 · 06/03/2021 19:43

My LA is extremely low, I am just hoping vaccination rate stays high enough that when the tourist season starts it will be ok.

CarrieBlue · 06/03/2021 20:50

There won’t be cheaper holidays. More concentrated periods of time when everyone wants to go away means they’ll be more expensive (and less bargains for those child free holidaymakers if holidays are staggered). The travel and tourism industry isn’t stupid.

BigBobBoots · 06/03/2021 21:14

Just de lurking to say hello to everyone. Wishing you all a restful final pre-return Sunday.
That article mentioned having summer holidays like Germany. Absolutely fine by me, as long as they adopt the German timetable - school day from 8am til lunchtime.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/03/2021 21:20

Honestly MN does not represent the views of most students, parents and staff in my area. Admittedly I might not chat in a friendly way with anyone that is likely a twat4themself I suppose but general consensus is - its madness to send them all back but we’re doing it anyway. Most parents support masks although obvs feel for students wearing them. Most are pleased to be able to work again, but equally worry about safety in schools and for teachers and staff.

Nearly everyone I know follows the rules with only minor breaking eg might meet friend and kids in park, or two people for a walk but nothing major. Yes everyone is finding it hard. But it is only on here I see big ‘groups’ wail about ‘enough is enough’ and seem to encourage civil disobedience and encourage people to break the law/lockdown. I find it weird that MN allows those posts to stand so often - they are essentially encouraging people to go out and break the law. I feel it’s really irresponsible tbh.

I’ve also got the rage because Thames water can’t come into my house, even with mask and gloves and is standing outside because, you know covid, and I’m not allowed into orthodontist with my Y6 child and had to put my bag and coat into a black bin bag the one time I was allowed in for 3 minutes (obvs EVERYONE fully PPE’d up)... but yeah we can go back into classrooms All At Once. Know you all know that though 🤣🤣🤣 just needed to get it out!

RandomGrammarPun · 06/03/2021 21:23

99% of the comments on a local news site said it was too soon, why weren't teachers vaccinated, and why weren't parents of school children.

MrsHamlet · 06/03/2021 21:47

Absolutely fine by me, as long as they adopt the German timetable - school day from 8am til lunchtime.
And no setting cover if you're ill. They just leave...

Went to spar earlier. It's 3 times the size of my classroom. Maximum 8 people allowed in 🤷‍♀️

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 21:52

MrsH With the talk of Germany I've just spent several seconds being surprised that you misspelt spa.

Now I see you just forgot to capitalise Wink

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 21:52

Why false positives are not the issue with LFTs (as we all know):

MrsHamlet · 06/03/2021 21:59

It's not even the Spar... it's the Co-op!!

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 22:01

And (my last article culled from Parents Utd's Fb Group!) The Sun trying to scare parents into believing that their little darlings will go back to spacestation-looking classrooms with massive dividers in them, "sanitising stations" social distancing and no chance to play with their friends:

TheHoneyBadger · 06/03/2021 22:06

My county is the list unsurprisingly.

Our kids are coming straight into classrooms and being called from their for tests. Meh

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 22:12

Oh this gets even better: did you know that if you test Positive on LFD, then go for a PCR test (as instructed) resulting in a Negative, you still have to isolate for 10 days???
