You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Lehain has very small hands and feet. Just sayin'.

Appuskidu · 06/03/2021 17:37

It amazes me how much some people hate lazy lefties teachers, yet want their children shoved with them for 12 hours a day 48 weeks a year?!

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 17:37

Yup noble that sounds right on the testing graph.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 17:43

Grin piggy

I remember when Lehain stood as a Tory in some northern seat and all of a sudden his twitter account was full of how much he loved Greggs.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 17:45

But what they said, Jan is This is particularly the case given that for the last four weeks there has been a significantly larger percentage of positive cases in the 5-9 age group in England

Which is a definite misinterpretation of that graph.

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 17:49

Leftie and proud 💪

Here is the offending question. No more than 2 sides of A4 uni told us. I honestly want to cry. It's for my first primary application.

I started off all Mrs PositivePants on Monday morning and gradually this week I've felt lower and lower.

Maybe I need a break from it tonight. But I have a mental block when it comes to writing. Like I talk myself into not believing that I can do it.

I'm in a sorry state tonightSad

Don’t feel like that! If you want to be a teacher, you’re a teacher. I’ve been teaching 20 years and I’m still learning. We’ll help you with your statement!
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/03/2021 18:01

name That's where you put all your supporting stuff. Like your education philosophy, stuff you've done, stuff you're interested in etc. While linking back to the person spec and any other information where relevant. You don't need a long covering letter. The cover letter ime is "please find my application for XYZ school" and possibly a sentence or 2.

Good thing is once you've done one personal statement, the next one is easier as you just adapt.

9pmcouchnaps · 06/03/2021 18:09

The best way, I find, is to throw something very rough together, like you said you’ve already made notes under headings? So put them all together in one, making all of them into full sentences. Then edit it and build it up from there. As you edit, make sure you’ve included stuff to cover all the things listed in the question, and be sure to tailor it to that specific school - why would you be a good fit? Show that you’ve looked into their philosophy etc

You might, or might not, like to see if your LA is listed here as one which iSAGE would deem unsafe for school return, because of having infection rates over 100/100,000:

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 18:18

Noble, I was agreeing with you

hedgehogger1 · 06/03/2021 18:19

Had a message from my GP. Booked for my jab Tuesday, they seemed surprised when I went for the last slot of the day. Wasn't worth the effort of asking for time off

FrippEnos · 06/03/2021 18:20

Thanks staff.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 18:22

I know Jan! Train of thought stuff. That graph has been bugging me for weeks.

My LA is listed there, and I know from the postcode checker that my school is in the middle of one of the county's Covid hotspots.

@namechangedyetagain If you want an example of a personal statement pm me your email and I’ll send you one.

I’m in Wolves.

lonelyplanet · 06/03/2021 18:42

It goes hand in hand with this graph, which shows that Primary kids are tested less than other school groups. I guess maybe they don't display the same symptoms or if you can only order a maximum of 3 tests per household you are less likely to test the younger children in a family. This is a worry if they are still sent into school.

Sorry that was commenting on noble and Jan's conversation.

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 18:47

Oo hadn't seen that graph before, interesting. Presumably a function of being less likely to have symptoms, and more difficult to test?

lonelyplanet · 06/03/2021 18:55

Yes, positivity is so high because they possibly only get tested if there are other confirmed cases in the house or have really obvious symptoms.
motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:07

Posted the TES link on the Corona board. Probably get piled on but I think data like that needs to be widely reported.

RigaBalsam · 06/03/2021 19:07

My area is on the list too. Fook!

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:08

First comment ‘not concerned’ 🙄
