You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hagan das ice cream here tonight. What diabetes?

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 22:21

doh - yes I have - the half packet of chocolate digestives and I nicked one of the galaxy cake bars my dad dropped round for ds earlier.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/02/2021 22:27

I had never eaten a Double Decker until last week when there was one leftover from a Christmas selection box. What a delight.

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 22:29

Boop for double deckers, such satisfying textures as well as the taste - and also for Wensleydale with cranberries.

Sorry to everyone having a rubbish time.

So re the Schoolsweek article about new things being emphasised in the updated guidance, making Ventilation #7 rather than #8 in the list of Control Measures means it's Very Important Now, does it?

Really?

Do they think we all learn EVERY FLIPPING VERSION of the Guidance off by heart or something??

It's not like teachers have got anything else to do....

GuyFawkesDay · 02/02/2021 22:32

Have you seen the ICT with Mr P video comparing lockdown 1 to this one. Laughed myself silly earlier because it's all so true

namechangedyetagain · 02/02/2021 22:35

Thank you @RuleWithAWoodenFoot. How do you all come up with ideas / plans so fast? I think I'm way too slow and not creative enough.

I also need to sleep so night all!

thecatfromjapan · 02/02/2021 22:43

I'm so sorry to hear that so many of you are being given a bit of a battering by life at the moment.
That is brilliant!!
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/02/2021 22:56

It's experience name. The more you do it, the more you know what works, what doesn't and what bizarre thing always causes a problem. It does get easier.

For writing in primary, having taught a genre several times removes a whole layer of planning IME.

Might be worth you taking a bit of time just drafting out an example of the letter you want children to produce. Don't spend ages on it, but it'll make it easier for you to see what the key things the children will need to do are and then plan from that.

noblegiraffe · 02/02/2021 22:57

Name when you’ve been doing this for years it’ll be the same for you too. It’s not coming up with new ideas, it’s remembering what you’ve done.

Guy that Mr P video is great, I love the filters. I just watched this one and am thinking of sending it to my sixth form as it’s basically them (the only classes I allow to unmute never do) fb.watch/3pAkiQsTQL/

thecatfromjapan · 02/02/2021 23:06

'Everything is beyond the wit of the DfE,' has made me laugh.

JanuaryChill · 02/02/2021 23:16

(Mr P video) Gav in Benidorm! Now there's a thought.....

noblegiraffe · 02/02/2021 23:29

Jan are you thinking about Gav in swim shorts?

Is the thread going to get back round to shagging Gavin Williamson?

Cat wasn’t around for that thread and it would take some explaining.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 23:32

Love that Guy. Is there anybody out there? Will someone please answer a question? Grin

Fucking nightmare year and we've all kept going despite being slated constantly. I can't sleep and am drinking gin yet also regularly getting on my step machine thing to try and burn a few more calories before midnight. Not exactly sane behaviour.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 23:35

I suspect it's a bit like storylines name. Can't remember but it's something like there's only actually 9 storylines in all literature. Teaching is similar - despite the new names and buzzwords and dressing up the emperor in new clothes it's the same selection of approaches and tasks really that just get applied to a multitude of different subjects and lessons. Not explaining well because..... gin.

Love Mr P

Teaching is pretty formulaic really.

Still awake. Wondering whether it would be stupid to try and do 100 days without sugar.
Love that, along with the other video to the Sound of Silence Grin. Banana bread and Benidorm with Gove, Hancock and Gav Envy not envy.

My nights seem to be stretching later and later nowadays. I've got a permanent headache which must be down to lack of sleep. Diet is going out of the window here too. Fell off the wagon at the weekend, but almost managed a full month without a drink!

Hope you're ok GuyFawkesDay - are you taking some time off? It sounds as if you need to.

I have a question. If you could get by perfectly well without your teacher salary, would you leave your job now?

ChloeDecker · 03/02/2021 06:17

I’m loving Mr P’s latest video too of doing a live lesson to pupils with their cameras off and no response to questions, with Simon and Garfunkel singing “Hello darkness my old friend “ Grin

Cracklefraggle · 03/02/2021 07:28

Had a lovely day on Monday. I was able to pay all of my year 11 form a socially distanced visit. We had a MH day so I took them all some school supplies, treats and had wonderful chats with the kids and their parents from a lot more than 2m away.

Bit of a pain quarantining everything, having to convince HT I would be safe and doing a risk assessment but it was worth it. I needed it as much as they did.

Total come down now Sad.

Thanks MrsHP and When for the teams info - thought I'd done that - turns out I'd forgotten to Angry

Cracklefraggle · 03/02/2021 07:29

Flowers for everyone having a rough time at the mo.

Saucery · 03/02/2021 08:04

That's a lovely thing to do, Crackle.

Another day of cognitive dissonance ahead. Packed classroom, empty roads, new superstore opened in the town which is incredibly busy, I believe. Police blocking access to local parks. And only about 3 miles from one of the SA variant areas.
I feel like the world is physically shifting sometimes. Stress dizziness may be a Thing?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 03/02/2021 08:13

Morning everyone.
My childcare bubble is available for after lunch (normally only get Friday afternoons, while I do after school for them every day)
So I've decided to take some MH hours when I finish. As soon as I finish teaching p5 I'm off for an undefined length run instead of doing planning and have housework

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/02/2021 08:14

I have a question. If you could get by perfectly well without your teacher salary, would you leave your job now?

I don't need to work (not forever, but we could do a few years). In 2019 we took 3 months off to do a ski season before child started school. I had a job for September before we left in January. When we got back, I could have worked from May half term - summer, but couldn't get anything. Applied for temp TA jobs, teaching jobs, a supply agency wouldn't take me as by the time my DBS came back I'd have only been available for a couple of weeks. It was awful - properly depressing. We could afford me not to be working, but mentally it wasn't good. I need to be working.

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 08:17

Today I have swollen glands. It is funny how one soldiers on from home with remote teaching when I would probably not go to school today. At least no cover to sort , I guess : 'just get on, year 11, while I go to sleep' is the plan...
