You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Oh I missed a whole page - sorry to everyone who is struggling. MrsH I hope you told him to fuck off. God how vile. Why are you still cooking for him?

Someone else said it the other day and today I'm feeling it that my irritation and anger levels can be quite high at times. Another little thing happens and I feel really pissed off. Keep having to talk myself down and consciously letting things go.

I didn't tell him to fuck off although I should have done. I've come upstairs with my book and am snuggled up in bed.
I cook because I'm an idiot and sometimes wish he wasn't an ex

Mistressiggi · 02/02/2021 20:10

MrsHamlet I've read a lot of Agatha Christie involving the gradual poisoning of the victim's dinner..

DriveInSaturday · 02/02/2021 20:14

I've been on unpaid leave since the second day of term to protect my CV DS. Since then DS and I have only been out for exercise and DH has also done the odd top-up shop between supermarket deliveries. Exercise is what has kept DS going since the first lockdown, and it has to happen at the same time every day.

DH got a cold at the weekend and you know where this is going. He went for a test to reassure me that it was just a cold, and of course it isn't. I look at the guidance - 'If you live with somebody who is CV, they should go and stay with a relative or friend.' Where do these people live, Tom's Midnight Garden?

Since DH had the cold for a few days before getting tested, DS and I probably have it anyway. But I'm clutching at straws. So DH is banged up in our bedroom, I'm trying to keep DS away from him but in addition to his health conditions he has autism and LDs and doesn't really get it. Nor does he appreciate losing his exercise. We are lucky enough to have a garden but it's not the same.

And I get a text from Track and Trace telling me to self isolate, but it's ok because I can get SSP if I show this letter to my employer. Well, I could if they were paying me in the first place.

MrsHamlet · 02/02/2021 20:19

mistress don't tempt me!!!

DriveInSaturday · 02/02/2021 20:20

And MrsH wow, unbelievably rude!

Sorry about just coming on here to rant and Flowers and Wine to all those having a rough time at the moment.

HarrietDVane · 02/02/2021 20:21

@MrsHamlet Maybe read the Dorothy L Sayers book in which my namesake first appears before committing to that path... GrinWink

Mistressiggi · 02/02/2021 20:27

Drivein that sounds so hard.. I'm amazed your dh got sick you seem to have been so careful. Back in the summer we thought about putting someone in a tent (we do have a large one!) in the garden if they got sick, would seem a bit unfair in the winter.. I hope you are your dc manage to stay safe, and your dh recovers quickly.

MrsHamlet · 02/02/2021 20:28

Can I just point out that when I'm carted off for searching "Strong Poison" on kindle, it was @HarrietDVane who put me up to it.

Appuskidu · 02/02/2021 20:28
@Appuskidu
Afaik - p1-3 (age or 5 up) back in full time. I assume with no extra mitigations. Though staff can get twice weekly tests.
Senior schools - staff and students can get tests. Senior (ie S4-S6, 15/16A+) to be in to do work necessary for qualification, with 5-8% in. To me that means they come in for prelims etc, not back in as normal. Again, nothing said about mitigations/distancing/masks.
I'm sure more info will come along. Feeling very concerned tonight tbh.
Wow.

So, hardly anyone in secondary-just the older/exam years? Then juniors (age 7-11) also empty but infants back fully?

noblegiraffe · 02/02/2021 20:31

Was it Roald Dahl where the wife killed the husband with a frozen leg of lamb then cooked it and served it to the police while they were looking for the murder weapon?

noblegiraffe · 02/02/2021 20:34

If anyone wants to read about global covid disinformation networks advised by ex- Cambridge Analytica staff and with links to Us4Them, Byline Times have done more digging bylinetimes.com/2021/02/02/cambridge-analytica-psychologist-advising-global-covid-19-disinformation-network-linked-to-nigel-farage-and-conservative-party/

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/02/2021 20:41

Oh I just saw that one! What a surprise.

It was. Lamb to the Slaughter
namechangedyetagain · 02/02/2021 20:46

Mrs H that is helpful thank you. And after seeing myself on screen today I am in no position to call anyone fat. It was a wake up call though it didn't stop me eating half a packet of biscuits while planning this afternoon
Yet another thing to worry about

When I had covid just before xmas 2 weeks of not eating and sleeping 18 hours a day actually left me looking vaguely ok ish. All gone to shit since then.

MrsHamlet · 02/02/2021 20:48

I think name that I said nothing you'd not thought of. But sometimes you just need someone else to say it :)

That way madness lies. Can't imagine how confusing it is to have to still live with him though. When my ex decided it was over he was quite surprised that I actually expected him to move out straight away. I packed all of his stuff whilst he was at work the next day. I wasn't going to put myself or ds through having him hanging about sulking - it was one of those where it's actually a relief that they're going though.

He actually expected me to give him money to help him move - errr no mate, you want to leave me, off you trot and it's not my problem where to.

I may be a tad hard faced though.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 20:56

I fell off the diet wagon into a plate of fish and chips today and then half a packet of chocolate digestives. Cross with myself and feel like crap physically for eating it actually. Will have to try and make up for it tomorrow.

DriveInSaturday · 02/02/2021 20:58

Thanks Mistress, MIL said it was a pity it was winter as he could have stayed in the shed in summer. DH is fed up of the bedroom which is freezing cold and boring. We live in an area with walk-in testing so I'm planning on taking DS tomorrow (he's a young adult) - we are allowed out for a PCR test, apparently. Then if we've got it anyway, he can join us.

MrsHamlet · 02/02/2021 21:00

I think one of the problems is that it just kind of fizzled without either of us noticing or doing anything about it.. and now I'm stuck in limbo. I could move out but he couldn't afford to buy me out and I can't do rent + mortgage so I need to find a new job... and now isn't the time. Should've gone to bloody Moscow!

DriveInSaturday · 02/02/2021 21:01

I mean DH can join us in the living room etc.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 02/02/2021 21:01

Oh my goodness big hugs all round to lots of you.
MrsH - you could always cook chocolate brownies with laxatives and see how he does? Wink
I lived with my previous xH for 6 months before we could get the house sorted out. Was hell. I got drunk a lot Blush in my little attic room while he had the gorgeous master bedroom with ensuite.
Guy- hope you are ok. Flowers

I have today realised that I am now officially obese. Which as an ex anorexic is a bit horrifying. I am so glad I'm teaching from home as I only have sloppy joggers and hoodies that fit me now, and the hoody is tight around the tummy.
So diet time it is. Which is risky for me - last time I very nearly ended up underweight and had started binge/purging. But I can't carry on like this....
Today has also been hard, but no particular reason like the rest of you. I'm just finding it really hard swapping around hot desking with DH on my 15 minutes screen breaks or PPAs getting some housework done, trying to get the kids to do some schoolwork. Fuck knows what they are doing when DH is parenting while I'm live teaching. Anyway the jumping in to teaching out to parenting then back in to teaching etc all day has left me feeling really flustered!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 02/02/2021 21:04

Drive-in - hope you don't catch it. If it's any consolation a lot of people never pass it to their household members.

It's worrying though, especially as you've been so careful. Does he have any clue about where he caught it?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/02/2021 21:06

@mrshamlet There is some good Darwin stuff that we use for primary on www.darwinproject.ac.uk/. We used some of his letters today for comprehension.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/02/2021 21:09

Ooops... the thread updated since I opened the page and then forgot it - I see the same link has been posted by other people.
