You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

What are they providing salty? And what are they not providing? What have you tried so far? I'm assuming you've spoken to someone at their school, but what was their response? I don't want to give advice about stuff you've already done.

SaltyAF · 03/02/2021 23:40

We have 180 students in by the way. I'm.more than happy to do my bit.

On the other hand, DS was in a class of 3 today, with a teacher and a TA. How is that sensible use of resources? He has had Twinkl English work aimed at Reception and maths aimed at Year 6. He's Year 3.

SaltyAF · 03/02/2021 23:41

It's at governor level, but we're still waiting for a final response.

That really does sound rubbish, and definitely not an efficient use of resources to have 2 adults with only 3 children. I don't suppose there's much you can do right now if it's already at governors level, which must be incredibly frustrating for you. I'm really sorry not to have any good advice. You are absolutely correct that all schools need to be providing a decent level of remote learning, and the absolute basics is to get the age group right when setting work!!

noblegiraffe · 03/02/2021 23:53

So is he doing the same work that’s set for homeschooling with the teacher and TA (at which point they’d be wtf?) or are they teaching him different stuff? Who is setting the crap work?

Sounds very odd.

Mistressiggi · 04/02/2021 00:01

Thanks Noble am getting up early to experiment Smile
MrsHP I'm on teams mostly, I know how OneNote works due to dc's school but I don't fancy teaching all my classes how to use it as every one uses teams. It's been hard enough getting them to successfully open a PowerPoint!!
I'm just thinking about all the free time I'll have if my marking becomes faster Wink I can spend more time on mumsnet.

He will be doing the same work (the teacher in the class set the work). This is the first week he's going for three days; prior to that it's been just once. He's had less than 10 mins recorded footage and that's it, teaching wise.

We went from adding fractions to finding one with of £177 within two days.

SaltyAF · 04/02/2021 00:19

*one sixth of £177

Wait4nothing · 04/02/2021 05:27

My guess would be we are closer to 200 than 100 in my primary. In the summer we had less than 20 - I supervised 5 one day.

Head has promised to cap numbers, we will see if that happens.

I want them to stagger reopening to being back with younger years first - little kids can not learn well remotely. I don’t want to wait until it’s safe to bring back all year groups. With the youngest, we have a situation where the level of education is dependent on their parents available time and effort to teach them (because even in live lessons a 4 year old struggles hugely to work!).

Frustrating! I’ve been awake since four trying to figure out how to ‘catch-up’ my class when we eventually return and I’m still drawing blank!

Wait4nothing · 04/02/2021 05:31

@SaltyAF
I’d sack off remote schools work from his school if it’s that poor quality and just choose a maths and English topic from oak for his year group. Ask him how he’d like to spend the rest of his day and negotiate to find a timetable you are both happy with.

ChloeDecker · 04/02/2021 06:51

Morning all! Another parents evening done (I have one more next week too, sheesh!) and just having a cuppa in the calm before live lessons and home learning!
I’m also currently having a parent who I feel is now bordering on harassment towards me (one who blames me for not being able to get a parents evening appointment with me and now is upset with my information that their child is missed lots of homework since September and accusing me of not sending her information, even though I have emails from her Year 9 child, who at least is apologising to me for not doing work even though the parent is still insisting I am lying!, talking about my sent information his parent has shown me)Hmm I’ve counted 11 emails this parent has sent me since last Friday...
I’ve now passed it on for someone else better paid to deal with it Grin

I’ve enjoyed catching up with you all this morning - sorry for being AWOL but just v busy.
Sending Brew to everyone to help you all get through today!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/02/2021 07:21

Last year we have 8 daily in the hub, 15 max.
I've got 15 just from y6 today and every yeargroup is the same.

MrsHamlet · 04/02/2021 07:34

One school not far from here (secondary, about the sand size as us) claims to have 200+ in a day!! We have between 30 and 40.

RandomGrammarPun · 04/02/2021 07:37

We've got between 20-25% of our secondary in Sad.

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/02/2021 07:42

@Mistressiggi is it primary or secondary sorry I can’t remember! Class notebook is part of teams and it’s almost identical to word.

I can send you some info/instructions for using it for students and teachers if you want to have a look?

I used a cloze in my training - copied it from word and then shared the page to student notebooks and they copied just have to type in the words. We are secondary though!

Saucery · 04/02/2021 07:59

@MrsHerculePoirot sounds a decent breeder. Very similar to how we found our pup. Happy to chat via PM to avoid turning this into a Doghouse thread Grin

DriveInSaturday · 04/02/2021 08:00

I was woken by a text with DS and my test results - we both had a test yesterday. DS is positive. He has a textbook dry persistent cough.

I was elated at first as I saw two negative results on the texts (they woke me up so I was a bit fuzzy). Then I realised that one of them was my negative test I had to do before school started in January. I feel overwhelmed.

DriveInSaturday · 04/02/2021 08:02

And the pavement outside our house is being dug up and replaced today and there is no escape from the noise and smell.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/02/2021 08:02

@DriveInSaturday ThanksThanks wishing your DS and you well x

Saucery · 04/02/2021 08:03

Do you have symptoms, Drive? I hope your DS recovers well.

Monkeytennis97 · 04/02/2021 08:04

I think my secondary has about 30 in at KS3 not sure about KS4/5.

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/02/2021 08:05

@DriveInSaturday sorry to hear. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

TrashedWarrior · 04/02/2021 08:12

I hope ds gets well soon drivein and you remain well Thanks
