You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I hate the ‘battle’ metaphor. If it were a piece of creative writing I’d Green Pen the shit out of it. It’s as meaningless as describing a virus as Evil v Good.

@chocolateisavegetable

I cried at work today. Without wanting to out myself too much, a colleague was off sick which meant my day was way, way more difficult than it would have been otherwise. I can't bear the thought of her being off sick again tomorrow, let alone the rest of the week, let alone the rest of the half term. I was already close to breaking point, but this has finished me off Sad
Chocolate, Flowers. I hope you can get a decent rest tonight.
chocolateisavegetable · 03/02/2021 17:42

Thank you cat and when x

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 17:52

Did anyone see Teacher Tapp today? 82% of respondents had seen a colleague cry in the last term . That's a hell of a lot.

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 17:53

Teachers know everything January Grin

namechangedyetagain · 03/02/2021 17:54

Absolutely shattered today. Do feel like going to bed very soon. Talk turned to jobs at lunch time in the staff room because there will be a vacancy at school. But how can i apply when i have no confidence in myself or sell myself. Even though they have seen me teach ( head thought he was watching an oak video today before realising it was me - been there since Oct 😮). I still think that any interview situation wouldn't go well if I got that far.

It's just another layer of anxiety. I'm tired so that is making everything ten times worse. I'm in class on my own tomorrow morning. Mentor out and no TA. Wish me luck !

That’s loads. Especially when you think how many teachers will wait till they get to the car or home to have a good old sob.

TheLuckiest · 03/02/2021 17:59

Oh @chocolateisavegetable I hear you. Have a bloody big hug and Thanks

I feel really, really deflated today. I've kept on a relatively even keel until now but today I just feel....defeated. Utterly defeated.

Waiting to hear if my poor TA has 'IT.' If so, it's bubble burst yet again and back into sodding self-isolation. Sad

And today I had a meeting with my Head about some assessments we did before Christmas. Results were dire. No surprises there and Head is v pragmatic but it just hit me how hard the next few months / years will be. The children have so many gaps...I really don't know where to start or what to do first.

Feeling tsunami-like waves of 'Oh fuck...' today Sad

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 18:01

Yesterday was 5 remote live lessons in a secondary school. The kids are nice but the prep took bloody hours. I spend so much more time preparing for remote teaching than teaching in person.

malbec that was the general theme on The One Show yesterday when they spoke to teachers.

TheLuckiest · 03/02/2021 18:01

Oh, and DH has had notification that his employer will be restructuring the company. He should be OK but it's still a worry.....

chocolateisavegetable · 03/02/2021 18:04

Thanks dreaming and luckiest and hugs back to you x

PIggy that is shocking!

Also, considering how many ended up WFH /isolating and even if they were in, they weren't allowed to gather anywhere or hang around chatting
chocolateisavegetable · 03/02/2021 18:28

Good point January

MrsHamlet · 03/02/2021 18:28

I often get summoned to the loo to deal with criers. The last time it happened, I found myself standing on a toilet and telling my colleague that if she didn't open the door and let me in, I'd be coming over the top. I meant it too.
Our staff loos are grim

Appuskidu · 03/02/2021 18:37

Two members of staff cried on me today and there were only 4 of us in work!

Things are really starting to get to people.

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 18:40

Gosh, an actual balanced viewpoint from a child psychologist on my news. Also a mum of two. No handwringing.

Piggywaspushed · 03/02/2021 18:41

She is hinting that parents might want to stop projecting...

GuyFawkesDay · 03/02/2021 18:45

I'm exhausted as slept badly but feeling better. Why? Because I got to see actual adults other than my husband and we all had a right good bitch and moan!!!

MrsDanvers123 · 03/02/2021 18:52

I went to bed for an afternoon nap but got up as I couldn't fall to asleep. Looked at the clock to find that I'd actually been asleep for an hour and a halfShock

TheHoneyBadger · 03/02/2021 18:52

Name it will never be easier than this-people who've seen you teach and have praised you, cheap nqt and potentially saving them a load of hassle recruiting.

Pull your big girl pants up and apply.

Monkeytennis97 · 03/02/2021 18:54

@JanuaryChill

Btw, congratulations to piggy and monkey, both representing teachers' predictive powers on the Data thread very well!

RandomGrammarPun · 03/02/2021 18:56

Yes, name, you should definitely apply!

The 82% doesn't surprise me at all.

MrsHamlet · 03/02/2021 19:00

Indeed name you should apply.
If you want, you can have my emergency MASSIVE BIG GIRL PANTS to put on whilst you do it. They're in the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet.

They really are. In case of being snowed in at work.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/02/2021 19:06

Less pandering to your insecurity and more kicking it's arse. What's the point of all this if it's not to get a teaching post.

Talk back to the bollocks in your head.

RandomGrammarPun · 03/02/2021 19:07

I used my emergency pants out of my handbag the other day - I needed a second pair on top of my tights to keep them up Blush.

Thanks for the reminder to replace them!
