You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Panickingpavlova

*,re training videos etc and invasive procedures I strongly urge caution on performing these.

I heard someone say its a quick nose swab why wouldn't anyone allow someone to do it.

However a medic has told me numerous issues that can happen if it's pushed too far, scratches x y x.

As well as the legal side, if anyone wanted to do it, please make sure you're legally covered.
Teachers are teachers not professional medics and are not aware of those risks.

Also bare in mind the gdp of everyone knowing who tested positive and opening up that child and their family to abuse and bullying.

I have a colleague who used to be a biomedical scientist, and she is really concerned about our liability around this.
TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:23

Presumably re pay the school has to decide to agree to let you work remotely (except where needed for your share of kw/vulnerable supervision) and pay you or go without remote provision and not pay you.

I'm guessing administering who is or isn't being paid and adjusting pensions, ni and tax contributions etc (all of which is outsourced to expensive 3rd party companies at my school) would be more expensive and nightmarish than just paying everyone.

SaltyAF · 02/01/2021 14:25

I intend to take legal action if I end up with a severe case of Covid due to unsafe working conditions.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 14:25

I understand that section 44 legislation means you get paid. And can't be dismissed.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 14:31

Thanks @rainingcats, but he's eating and playing etc quite happily so I don't know if it warrants 111?

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:32

Yeah because they can't penalise you for not going into an unsafe environment unless they can prove it is safe.

It clearly isn't and hasn't been for some time.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 14:32

Try 111 online, Neuro

111.nhs.uk/

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:35

Yeah neuro I'd call. Rashes in young children are a Covid reaction red flag aren't they? Better safe than sorry. They're pretty hot on stuff like this even outside of Covid times I think. I remember ds having a rash and a bit of swelling and being surprised it was taken seriously as a potential post viral reaction and wanting to monitor

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 14:36

Yep good idea

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 14:38

V odd though as he's not been at nursery for over 2 weeks. And Dh thinks his cold (negative) was from toddler. Ds caught a cold from toddler and was neg.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:38

For context ds's head had a nasty collision with the road after hitting his back break too aggressively last year and I had to take him to the doctors and it turned out to be his first visit bar essential jabs for a decade Blush

Ergo I'm obviously not on the neurotic end of the health scale.

KatherineOfGaunt · 02/01/2021 14:39

I'm not employed by the school. I'm in specialist SEN provision in a mainstream. So I'm not teaching a whole class, although I am sometimes in a classroom.

I will just keep my fingers crossed they close all Tier 4 primaries for a week or two. I need more time to think and get my head around everything to make a decision.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:39

Brake! Just know the lurkers are sneering at every error or typo Wink

The government response is to tell journalists that Chris Whitty said schools were safe in August.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 14:42

Oooh that was deleted pdq Nobel!

Hercwasonasnowball · 02/01/2021 14:43

Noble that tweets vanished, are they silencing people again?

RigaBalsam · 02/01/2021 14:43

Quickly deleted.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:43

Gone by the time I clicked

starrynight19 · 02/01/2021 14:45

Seriously @HarrietDVane how can they say it’s business as usual Sad

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 14:46

A few MPs supporting unions.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:47

Also for the benefit of lurking teacher bashers in between mn time today I've been completing a National College Certification on remote and blended learning and setting up sheets to record pupil engagement with remote lessons.

Enemy of education indeed.

So funny that the u4ourselves troll was attacking us whilst we were discussing best practice for marking in the middle of the night Grin

The irony would not be lost on anyone rational

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 14:50

Also I was struck by a poster who recently said teachers were busy'hot housing' their own dc in the first lockdown Grin I wish I'd recorded ds and I nearly coming to blows over remote learning back in the spring.

Oh not quickly enough for this enemy of education.

Urgh just want to say this here as I can't anywhere else. My bloody next door neighbours have got their family over-I can hear 6 different voices at least (3 generations). Tier 4. Fuckers.

One of my colleagues did just that during LD1 while myself and my HOD did the remote provision for the whole department. My DD got very little of my time at all.

When said colleague announced how much he had enjoyed home schooling on our return in Sept I had to be physically restrained Angry
