You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Thatbigriver85 Bore off.

Or even better, train as a teacher and come and do the job under these conditions.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 01:29

Perhaps better to address things on the thread on which they were posted and therefore in context. Following people to other threads is not good netiquette especially when it's a support thread.

My anxiety is through the roof. I have no idea what is happening with remote teaching etc, our HT has made Monday an INSET but I hate not knowing what's going on! I have a phone appointment with Occ Health Monday afternoon, god knows what I'll say to them. Poor DH, I'm being a terrible wife atm 😔

Hercwasonasnowball · 02/01/2021 01:31

How can you care so little about the rest of society who this really would be the final straw for if you strike

How can you care so little about the teaching staff risking their lives daily?

9 or 10 a year herc and we only see them 3 times a fortnight. They're all essays even at year 7 bless them. And bless me having to decipher and mark them.

It's basically repeating over and over and getting them better and more confident over time at being able to churn out the 4 types of essays that are in gcse exams so it makes sense but it's a bit over intense IMO.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 02/01/2021 01:32

@Thatbigriver85 this is a thread for school staff to support each other, please stay off it.

Hercwasonasnowball · 02/01/2021 01:34

Ah bless them, that is intense! I can see why it makes sense but that's a lot of marking.

2021hasalowbenchmarktobebetter · 02/01/2021 01:36

@Thatbigriver85

Do you know who else depends on us? Our own families. In mine, there are two extremely clinically vulnerable people. Why should they be at risk of dying because some people are in denial about the situation we're in? Why should other people's children come before mine?

We are happy to work in safe conditions. We've been asking for more for months: masks in classrooms (which the rest of the world manages), funding for cleaning equipment, proper testing, laptops for children...the government have not been willing to listen or act. Our unions have not said we'll be striking. Many of us would be reluctant, but we are not being listened to.

Put your energy into shouting for better conditions in schools and then they might stay open.
Sending everyone back as is will result in schools closing anyway, as there won't be enough staff to keep them open.

Yes it is. I took on board a tip someone on here gave me and I get them to do them on paper. That way I only mark the qma and don't find myself sucked into deep marking their books.

Was a very good tip that has saved me hours of work that I'm not even required to do.

noble I got sucked in again! Damn late nights awake

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 01:40

Things must be getting desperate if they're invading this thread.

Kind of loving that lurkers jumped out in defence though Grin. Wave to the lurking teachers. Help yourself to port.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 01:40

Glad you’ve stopped being sucked into extra marking, Honey you are way too diligent.

You have to think about where the maximum impact will be and focus on that.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/01/2021 01:40

Why would a primary school have already announced closure of a class bubble for this coming week? I get that a teacher might have it, but supply?

Not mine, just checked the County school closures Web page out of interest.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 01:42

No supply, Rule?

Maybe anticipating further closures.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 01:42

I think it was you who told me off noble and reminded me I'm not part time so I can spend extra days marking Grin Might have been you that talked about expandable foam.

Outside school mixing?
No budget for supply?

It might be that they cannot secure supply or have deemed it too risky / not viable. It might be that they have lots of staff out and so have had to prioritise other year groups or classes. Might be that the school has been made aware of an illegal birthday gathering from which a child has tested positive.

But without being involved, there's no way to know for sure.

Hercwasonasnowball · 02/01/2021 01:44

😂 😂 We have a new moniker "enemies of education".

TheHoneyBadger · 02/01/2021 01:44

Odd rule. Could it be they're below critical staffing levels? When we closed 8 and 9 for a fortnight it was not so much about teachers as support staff and pastoral who are important to safety issues.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 01:47

I think someone else mentioned expanding foam, Honey, but I definitely told you off!

I didn’t go part time to spend my day off marking, that’s for sure.
