You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Well done name!

It's really not about the edewcashun in the last week before Christmas, is it?!

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/11/2020 20:06

Well done @namechangedyetagain!

C’mon @Hamlet you’ve got this marking in the bag 💪

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/11/2020 20:08

Yep, missed the date. The bad news bit of this winter (specific to my school) arrived on the second day back of this half term. Had I know that before half term, I'd have probably handed in my notice.

I'll start the job search I think.

CallmeAngelina · 23/11/2020 20:09

I actually really like my current class; it's their parents I'm not keen on. They'd fit right in on some of these MN threads!

echt · 23/11/2020 20:15

While a good deal of Victorian education seeks to imitate the worst of the English system, the resignation dates are sweet: a fortnight.

Augustbreeze · 23/11/2020 20:26

Nothing new re education as far as I can see, except they're updating the guidance shortly and also the contingency plan, in p40-41 of the newly published Winter Plan:

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 23/11/2020 20:38

Child in my class is off awaiting test results. One of their parents is a secondary teacher.

Appuskidu · 23/11/2020 20:40

@CallmeAngelina

I bet LOADS of people will keep their kids out during that last week, so that they're "clear" for Christmas. It will be interesting to see people cast aside their "kids need to be in school" stance when it comes down to potentially having to isolate over Christmas.
Yes, I think there will be loads of people keeping their kids off from the 11th, as well.
Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2020 20:43

Not if my school is anything to go by! They will probably try to get into school on December 25th coughing and spluttering
Seen this?

www.tes.com/news/coronavirus-schools-urgent-warning-over-misleading-teacher-covid-data
Wow that's good. Finally a little press interest. I saw reports of those two teachers in intensive care in the mirror earlier too Sad

I wonder if this is why Gav is suddenly trying to placate teachers ?!

From tes: Appearing before the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee, he said: “All the data, including ONS data, do not imply that teachers are a high-risk occupation, unlike, for example, social care workers and medical staff like myself."

A Gp friend told me in her opinion her job was miles safer than ours due to masks, no one allowed in with any symptoms and low actual physical contact with anyone. My son's infected finger was seen and treated with abs via pics I sent on my phone.

I appreciate staff working in wards are much less safe. At the very least there's ppe and hygiene training.

noblegiraffe · 23/11/2020 20:51

I wonder if this is why Gav is suddenly trying to placate teachers?!

I think that's because of the survey that showed 50% of Heads are planning to quit once the pandemic is over.

Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2020 20:56

Oh I didn't catch that he said 'like myself'. How arrogant!

Does Whitty not understand that teachers have never seen their job as carrying any particular physical health risks beyond bad backs , necks and the odd bug going round? To think that somehow equating us to the risks of careworkers and medical staff somehow helps appease is bizarre.

Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2020 20:58

And actually the data puts up more or less on a par with medical staff 'like himself'. So if they are high risk we are highish risk.

13luckyblackcats · 23/11/2020 21:00

Yay, well done @namechangedyetagain!! We don't get ours back for another couple of weeks.

noblegiraffe · 23/11/2020 21:12

Now you can pretend to be in the classroom from the comfort of you sofa. I lasted 47 seconds. www.socialdistancing.wtf/

noblegiraffe · 23/11/2020 21:15

Didn't Chris Whitty catch covid from Boris? Seems his main risk was hanging around maskless numpties who can't wash their hands. A bit like teaching Y10.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2020 21:16

Brilliant. I lasted 54 seconds by doing laps (because of course my classroom has a 2m gap all the way around the perimeter 😄)

Damn that's potentially addictive. Took me a couple of goes to get a technique going but 1:32 on my third go.
