You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

This thread is our refuge from the battering some of us get on other threads. It helps.

Goingcrazzy · 20/10/2020 20:04

The jam tarts have gone. A neighbour did offer..

Saucery · 20/10/2020 20:04

I had to say out loud to DH earlier “One day all this Covid shit will be over and so will the bastarding building work next door”. It was like I had to vocalise it to remind myself that this cannot last forever!
Hard to believe it some days, Goingcrazzy but it’s true Flowers

Kids giddy as hell at work. Staff quite on edge too. I got really annoyed about something inconsequential yesterday and had to give myself a stern talking to in the toilets so I didn’t blow it out of proportion. And then at other times it’s so weirdly normal that I wonder if I am dreaming it all.

MrsHamlet · 20/10/2020 20:10

Situation back to normal today. I did something that is absolutely key to my whole school role which incurred the wrath of my hod who apparently uttered the phrase "and what's it got to do with HER". Do you think I should give him the list of all the things it's got to do with me, or just stick another pin in the voodoo doll?!

colourofblue · 20/10/2020 20:11

I know angelina but that poster wasn’t bashing, just a worried mum I thought Smile and I’m not criticising, honestly - I’m just saying!

Saucery · 20/10/2020 20:14

Voodoo Doll, MrsHamlet, definitely.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 20/10/2020 20:15

Once you pop you just can't stop!

Another bubble out from mine.

Wonder how many will make it to the end of the week. Staff watching their half term go up in smoke.

2020 is the gift that just keeps giving.

Frlrlrubert · 20/10/2020 20:20

It's indicative of my current state of mind that I'd be tempted to go with the list MrsH.

Our 're-engagement' shenanigans continue, emailing action plans to parents and thought I'd cc in relevant subject teachers and got back 'Bob's issue isn't x it is mostly y'. Except said teacher never mentioned y when I asked what Bob's issue was, to be fair maybe I could have read between the lines, but he doesn't do that in registration. Too late now, I'm not emailing parents to tell them we can't even communicate properly with each other.

And now I definitely need a name change.

Saucery · 20/10/2020 20:21

I think I’ll throw my phone in the river on the way home tomorrow. “Oh, were you trying to contact me........I was identified as a contact, was I?” Grin

(I wouldn’t really).

WhyNotMe40 · 20/10/2020 20:23

My fault, sorry. I didn't mean to bash other threads. And I'm also probably being unreasonable doing daily 1-10 mini quizzes and asking kids to call their scores out as well.

MrsHamlet · 20/10/2020 20:25

Frlrlrubert I have a suspicion he'll go to the head with it and, once again, be hoist with his own retard 😂
Rule number one don't be a twat make sure the hole is not in your end of the boat!

MrsHamlet · 20/10/2020 20:27

why I do a quiz with three form groups a week and make them call out scores. I don't know them from Adam and see them once a week for 15 mins. I can't take stuff in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 20:30

Pop! Bubble here too!

namechangedyetagain · 20/10/2020 20:36

WineGinBrewCake for you all still to make it to half term. I am completely in awe of teachers. I'm 5 weeks into my course and have no idea how you do it. I had what can only be described as a sobfest yesterday. Something placement wise happened, I'm tired, I'm not sleeping, I don't know what I'm doing, I don't know how to plan, I don't know how to assess, I have an essay due and tons of paperwork to complete. It just got too much and I don't know if this is normal or if I'm just not teacher material.

Today been slightly better but I feel so tired. I have a constant headache and feel hungover sadly not. And all the time that I feel rubbish I'm not working hard enough and so feeling further behind. Hoping for sleep soon.

Like I say. You're all amazing Flowers

Frlrlrubert · 20/10/2020 20:38

Not bashing, but that thread has made me think, I dislike the 'email the HoY' structure. It's quite similar at our school in that our email addresses aren't really public, and I don't want 7000 emails from parents, but I feel like with minor things I wish parents could just email me without getting the management involved every time!

MrsHamlet · 20/10/2020 20:43

namechanged you hit "conscious incompetence". That's okay. If you need specific support, ask away!
Frlrlrubert I thought that problem would have been better solved by emailing the teacher.

Frlrlrubert · 20/10/2020 20:46

BrewThanks namechange

I also feel hungover without the benefit of having enjoyed the drinks.

Remember the whole point of your course is that you need to learn to plan and asses, and you will! Not many other courses where you're expected to do it before you know it - I'm sure you're doing fine. One thing I've heard a lot: you'll make a good teacher because you care, that you're worried and tired and stressed right now shows you do care.

One of my year 11s said to me today (after I pointed out that they were really being quite unpleasant) 'if you can't cope you shouldn't be a teacher'. I think probably someone who 'shouldn't be a teacher' would have chucked either her or them self out of the window by now, the fact that I'm still standing there trying to teach her is why I'm a teacher and lots aren't (and I don't blame them when I have that particular class!)

ohthegoats · 20/10/2020 21:17

Got kicked and punched by a year 1 child today. All I did was ask him to leave the year 5 resource room. He was excluded, but still. AAAAGH.

They are all nuts, and I'm right on the edge of really fucking furious at all times. A right grumpy shit. Shouted too loudly at a child today - he was being a tit, but still. Not my normal stuff.

Did manage to get them all going on MSTeams though - took 45 minutes just to get them logged on, but it's done. If we have to go off, I can invite them to a meeting and they can join a meeting. Already decided that if it happens, I'm going to talk to them in groups rather than as a whole class. The whole class chat just turned into an emoji chat fest.

echt · 20/10/2020 21:32

l'll bite.

This thread is for teachers to vent to their peers. It pains me to see a teacher pulled up for doing just this, and then apologising for what so many on the Republic have done.

Yes we do refer to other threads. We support each other.

colourofblue · 20/10/2020 21:33

You know it’s against the guidelines to discuss threads on other threads.

Saying you’re sick of teacher bashing is fine, but that other thread wasn’t. It is a really unpleasant thing to do. I don’t think the poster meant it like that at all. But it was.

EducatingArti · 20/10/2020 21:41

I thought it was against the guidelines to start a thread about a thread. This one is general support for teachers which sometimes involves discussing attitudes to teachers on other threads.

colourofblue · 20/10/2020 21:42

I’ll check with MNHQ

WhyNotMe40 · 20/10/2020 21:47

So something I do in class is "awful, humiliating and cruel" on one thread, and now my post is a "really unpleasant thing to do".
I think I'll take my leave now.

Appuskidu · 20/10/2020 21:49

I’m lost.

What exactly are you accusing a poster of doing?

colourofblue · 20/10/2020 21:51

No. Generally speaking I don’t think it’s on to take issues from one thread to another. I don’t think that is particularly pleasant.

The poster wasn’t talking about you, she was talking about her own DD. She should be able to do that without being sniped at elsewhere. Not everyone is a teacher and if someone’s child comes home upset then MN is a valuable resource in talking it through.
