You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@BelleSausage

Morning! Am dropping back in to say hi. I’ve been off mUmsnet for a while because it was actually making me ill to read all the horrible comments about schools and teachers.

Also, I haven’t had time to turn around three times since the start of term. Behaviour is deteriorating at an alarming rate and the kids have forgotten Covid exists- apart from when someone sneezes.

Have been giving it my best go on the NEU thread but it has attracted the same two posters who could argue up was down when it comes to schools 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hasn’t it just, Belle!? That thread Hmm

Good to see you back. Sounds like your experience has been similar to mine. I’m really struggling to juggle everything at the minute and pupil behaviour is not helping!

BelleSausage · 17/10/2020 07:58

@ChloeDecker

I know it’s early but have one of these Wine

We deserve it!

I think the kids know that this cannot last much longer. We’ve had a few days in the last two weeks where cover has been dicey. And we’ve now been told to put loads of things in place for blended learning. I think it’s coming but the gov are waiting to pull the pin so most of it takes place over the winter. Who know 🤷🏻‍♀️

monkeytennis97 · 17/10/2020 08:27

@BelleSausage Hi Belle I know what you mean. Genie and one other whose name I've forgotten are impossible!

Hi everyone!

Same here. Seems like a million years since start of term. Hope everyone is coping as well as you can.

We have one more week to go. Been a LONG 7 weeks. 3 year groups been out. 12 staff off yesterday. I’m tired. However I’ve been on antidepressants for 8 weeks now and I have noticed a change to my anxiety - I can sleep! Or that could be the exhaustion.

@noblegiraffe Well done for keeping fighting to hold fight!

@StaffAssociationRepresentative Thank you for keeping everyone together!

Don’t get yourself banned, Salty! Stay on this thread if they’re getting to you....

I'm going to hide it. I could get so angry that it would spoil my precious weekend. I think Billy William is the ultimate goady bastard personally.
noblegiraffe · 17/10/2020 09:13

Billy is basically a bot. Same comment every thread.
If op = ‘noblegiraffe’ or threadtitle includes ‘schools’
Then post “don’t give a shit about anything apart from schools staying open!”

ohthegoats · 17/10/2020 09:22

Stay away from the loonies folks. You'd walk away from them at a party/in the pub/whatever, do the same here.

I'm glad behaviour is deteriorating in most places, makes me feel less shit.

ohthegoats · 17/10/2020 09:22

@Augustbreeze thanks.

Nellodee · 17/10/2020 09:23

Sorry about your mum, Piggy.

starrynight19 · 17/10/2020 09:27

Yep salty don’t let them wind you up.
Sorry to hear how tough everyone is finding it in school with behaviour. Hope you have nice things planned this weekend and almost half term Flowers

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2020 09:35

Behaviour worse at our place too.

Detentions weren't happening as we had no late buses, and we can't keep them at lunch or break due to different times so we just lost most of our deterrents. Most of the kids are great but the usual suspects are making the most of it.

Nellodee · 17/10/2020 09:37

Careful on that other thread, @starrynight19. "Certain posters" don't like it when they're called out on their bullshit are starting to feel bullied.

Danglingmod · 17/10/2020 09:39

Yeah, there are basically no deterrents, now. No detentions because of staggered break and lunch, no isolation room because of bubbles, no putting them in a different year group because of bubbles, no moving seats because of seating plans...

There's just phoning home.

Our behaviour is okay. Ish. Very ish... I think year 8 are the worst behaved in comparison to what we normally expect to see.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/10/2020 09:52

Behaviour is deteriorating at our school. It’s mostly year 9.

SLT seem to have a “relationships” approach. And we should keep that in class where ever possible. As an NQT I’m massively struggling and so far there’s very little support.

starrynight19 · 17/10/2020 09:53

Anyone watching bbc news now ?
A school teacher who contracted corona virus had to have her hands and feet removed after getting an infection.
Hope some of those who say it’s nothing more than a cold are watching Sad

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/10/2020 09:59

Bloody hell!

Dd's is,action has screwed over her first face to face campus appt which is on the Tues of half term...she has to isolate from this Wed until the Tuesday. I think that means she cannot go and is still isolating.

Oh that’s horrific. Especially after certain comments on another thread. That poor teacher.

Love the conditional IF statement there noble!
BelleSausage · 17/10/2020 10:06

@GuyFawkesDay

We have exactly the same issues. The kids have twigged that’s detentions are basically impossible so they are really trying it on.

I am just phoning parents at every opportunity now. They wanted schools open so they can help us make it work. No surprises that our worst offenders are the ones with completely absent, neglectful parents.

My school has still got an isolation room (massive hall, desks socially distanced) so thankfully behaviour isn't spiralling (although the kids are really struggling towards the end of term, they're fed up and shattered and so are we).

More and more kids are just not wearing masks in the corridors though as there are definitely no sanctions for that. They just brazenly do it now they know.

MrsHamlet · 17/10/2020 10:18

Wow.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/10/2020 10:20

Just had an alert from the covid app but when I clicked on it it disappeared. Something about "someone you were near reported". Anyone know how I can get this back. Can't work out how in the app.

noblegiraffe · 17/10/2020 10:21

I think that's a fault in the app, squashed, someone else I know had the exact same thing.
