You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Sorry about your mum piggy. Being far away is so hard Flowers and Gin

DreamingofBrie · 16/10/2020 14:44

So sorry to hear about your mum, Piggy, it's shit not being able to go to her. Look after yourself Flowers.

GuyFawkesDay · 16/10/2020 15:13

Sorry to hear your news @Piggywaspushed. I hope your mum recovers quickly xx

SaltyAndFresh · 16/10/2020 15:29

So, if I don't have to self isolate with my entire class, I don't have to feel guilty about not imposing quarantine on myself at the weekend, do I?

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2020 15:32

I have a present for you all to weep over

schoolsweek.co.uk/dfe-closes-covid-attendance-loophole-6-weeks-into-term/

Read the bit about remote learning …

Thanks for your well wishes. My sister says it is now declared a chronic bleed on the brain. More news to follow. I never speak to my mum. She bizarrely lives in two different apartments and is very evasive about who she is with when. My sister and I are relatively estranged, albeit amicably. She lives 3 hours from my mum but I guess is with her at the moment.

flumposie · 16/10/2020 15:36

Thinking of you PiggyFlowers

RobertsUncle · 16/10/2020 16:17

Very sorry to hear that piggy.
Sending you best wishes

monkeytennis97 · 16/10/2020 16:17

Oh God when Johnson said about catching asymptomatics my heart leapt.. I thought finally they are going to mandate masks in secondary schools... but no Sad

Fossie · 16/10/2020 16:51

We are going for masks from Monday. I can’t see how they are going to work. Everyone has to sanitise hands to put them on and sanitise hands after taking them off. The timetable usually has classes in the same building to protect bubbles. Pupils will do all this palaver then walk 10 feet and do it again. We are going to lose even more lesson time.

If my DH wasn’t about to lose his job I’d be walking out now.

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/10/2020 17:11

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum piggy 💐. I hope your sister keeps you updated, and that you have done hopeful news soon. It must be so hard being so far away. 💐

We've had masks in corridors for weeks now. Nobody bothers with sanitising hands before and after putting it on/taking it off (we do try!!!), And my lovely year 7 class were surprised they needed to wash their cloth reusable masks, as in at all, ever. I've got enough for one a day then wash at weekends, but they thought they could just wear one mask over and over again without ever washing it at all. They're getting better about putting them on automatically when they leave a classroom/enter a building. I think it's easier to remember than it is to listen to the nagging and telling off for not wearing it. Our kids are pretty biddable anyway though.

CallmeAngelina · 16/10/2020 17:35

Sending good wishes to you and your mum, Piggy. Gin

RigaBalsam · 16/10/2020 17:38

Piggy just read about your mum so sorry.ThanksThanksThanksThanks

CallmeAngelina · 16/10/2020 17:42

I had a nose in the class "worry box" today and saw that a child had written that he was relieved his mum was now better after having Covid!!!!! He's been in school all along!

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/10/2020 17:46

ShockShockShockShock

Definitely had it recently call?

noblegiraffe · 16/10/2020 17:50

OMG Ange that’s worrying. Fingers crossed it’s not what it seems.

Augustbreeze · 16/10/2020 17:53

That attendance loophole article (thanks piggy) - DfE making schools report on how much feedback they're giving remote learners.... for pity's sake!!!!!

Augustbreeze · 16/10/2020 17:55

Case in sixth form notified today. Reading between the lines of what's been sent out, they must have come to school with symptoms for a couple of days, or possibly while awaiting a test result... fab.

CallmeAngelina · 16/10/2020 18:06

Hard to tell. This is the same child who told me his mum also had cancer - and then self-corrected and said, "Oh wait, I might mean asthma!"
But I showed the Head who shrugged, put the note in her drawer and said, "Nah, doubt it."
We're doomed!

noblegiraffe · 16/10/2020 18:09

New thread on the NEU call for school closures.

Hopefully as it's secondary and colleges, You4Us won't give a toss as they're all primary.

Oh piggy - thinking of you and your family. Flowers

Thank you for that schools week link. Jaw dropping stuff from the gov

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/10/2020 18:35

Sorry to hear your news @Piggywaspushed

Child in my bubble awaiting test result. Their mum already has a positive result. Looks like I may have to isolate for most of half term. Bollocks

starrynight19 · 16/10/2020 19:01

Sorry to hear your news Piggy Flowers

So we went into to tier 3 today. Literally not a school around us without cases and some schools being forced to close.
How can people not see this is what is coming when cases rise. So many saying “oh we haven’t had any cases”.
Had the local hospital on the news tonight and they said they are weeks away from being full. It’s unbelievable schools are carrying on as normal Sad

monkeytennis97 · 16/10/2020 19:05

@starrynight19 you need to tell the idiots that on Noble's NEU thread. Not sure I've got the strength for it tonight, just got wound up by a You4Us on another thread.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/10/2020 19:08

We've gone from the HT saying that county level bods were confirming we def wouldn't be having any kind of a circuit breaker around half term due to the kids being safer in school, to now today asking if we were all still set up with our new classes to switch to online learning as he's pretty sure we will be having some sort of extension to half term.

We're to find out from an announcement on Monday apparently.
