You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Maybe there will be a call to cull all teachers over the age of 50 because they are past me.

(one can only hope)

We can then fill classrooms full of 21 year olds (depending upon covid )

I had an argument with a mum because I kept telling her kid to do some work and stop looking out of the window.

I asked if she would rather I let him look out the window and she said yes. I pointed out he was borderline for his maths GCSE and was in Y11. She then refused to send him back into my lessons.

Clearly my expectations were too mean.

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 21:11

@ohthegoats

I had a child spit at two other children today then shout 'Haha, you've got covid and you're going to die'

Ace.

Instant exclusion, yes?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/09/2020 21:17

But MN mist know that, MrsHamlet.
Surely we were all that kid when we could get away with it. Or perhaps it was just my year Blush

There are plenty of strict teachers about. There’s very few I’d say were mean.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/09/2020 21:30

The mean ones in my opinion are the trying to be cool dudes who flip from over friendly and lax to outright bully boys depending on their mood or insecurity levels.

Strict is not mean. Confusing kids by not having any consistency or clarity is mean.

Ds has a new to school form tutor who allegedly made ds walk all the up to him and basically did the squaring off thing. I know the type and can believe it. Wtf he’s doing forcing kids to come over and stand in front of him during covid is beyond me.

God reading newspapers is a mistake.

Feel pissed off again. Ok for me to mingle with kids from hundreds of different households but I can’t have dinner with my close family who are currently in the UK because there would be 7 of us.

I’m finding school manageable by basically going into a state of suspended disbelief of reality. Reading updates was a big mistake. Fucking moonshots when we’re not even managing testing for the symptomatic and tracing contacts or enforcing travel quarantine? Get to you buffoon of a man.

What did you do?! 😲 This is union censorship!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Crap day here too. Worked straight through from 8-2 without even chance to pee/eat/breathe. Had a rooming issue in every single lesson (30 children in a room with 20 tables and chairs or buildings completely locked up and caretaker off site type ridiculousness) AND someone has “borrowed” my fucking mug!

I properly lost my rag at the world and ranted in the DH’s office for ten minutes. I flounced off and locked myself in an empty admin office for an hour and a half. Then I felt better. So I went and found the SLT I had ranted at you apologise. Because, let’s face it, we’re ALL having a shit year!

starrynight19 · 09/09/2020 22:03

So dd got a negative result at 2pm today 50 hours after test , I’m still waiting. No words.

Sorry to hear of those having a rough start back. Can’t believe it’s only week two Confused

Apparently a leaked document is suggesting the plan is 10million tests a day.

Described on twitter as less Operation moonshot and more operation been on the moonshine.

Gosh - sorry chaps. I think it was because of TAAT and not bothering.

oohps - if I disappear it has been nice knowing you all. And the Christmas gin is behind the photocopier.

Got a positive test result for me today. I was already in quarantine from DDs positive test result last week. SLT being very good about it. Oh well at least I don’t feel too bad on it. Back to setting more cover for students I’ve never met.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 09/09/2020 23:12

Fossie - hope you don't get it too bad.

We are on standby as a family has potentially burst one of our bubbles depending upon their results. 3 kids across KS4 and KS5.

OP posts:
Keepdistance · 09/09/2020 23:53

Hope you dont feel too bad fossie. Did you catch it from dc then? Under or over 10years old?

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 00:11

I could cry.

Ds has a stinking cold from no where. Can't breathe and sleep. I've had short 3 naps so far. I'm exhausted and my period has started. First full day of teaching tomorrow.

Do I test? No temp. I'm thinking we just carry on as usual.

Daisy169 · 10/09/2020 05:37

Neuro - sorry your ds has a horrible cold, my ds brought one home from nursery and he's now fine but I've barely slept through not being able to breathe properly. I wouldn't test based on just a cold but is he bad enough that you'd keep him off?

Fossie - hope you're okay

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 06:24

Thanks. I just so needed sleep last night!

I've had some. No I don't think he's that unwell.

This winter is rapidly becoming v depressing.

I'm also highly annoyed that after SD staff meeting last night, school appear to be trying to continue with some stupid unnecessary paper work which is completely pointless and a waste of time.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 06:25

I hope you're not too poorly and get well soon.

staff that's worrying.

motherrunner · 10/09/2020 06:36

@Fossie Hope you’re not too poorly.

@StaffAssociationRepresentative Crossing fingers for food news.

@NeurotrashWarrior Lots of coffee! I sympathise. DS all snotty. Picked him up from club at 5 yesterday and he was asleep by the time we got home - half a mile away. No cough or temp so am assuming cold.

motherrunner · 10/09/2020 06:37

*good

Mistressiggi · 10/09/2020 06:39

Sorry to hear that Fossie.
Can I just say, if you start feeling unwell at all the remote work should stop - fair enough today if you feel alright but you can't provide lots of cover with the bloody coronavirus, you need to rest!
Flowers

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/09/2020 07:00

I hope you continue feeling ok fossie. And I agree that you need to stop providing work if you start feeling ill. It's a rubbish system normally that ill teachers have to set cover (often setting cover between bouts of vomiting Envy), but definitely don't martyr yourself when you've got covid.

Piggywaspushed · 10/09/2020 07:04

Hope you feel better soon fossie.

Danglingmod · 10/09/2020 07:11

Flowers for Fozzie, everyone with poorly dc, cases in their schools or just generally struggling. Not hiding it any longer, I really am.

Danglingmod · 10/09/2020 07:11
