You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

You don’t need your NHS number - I didn’t know mine when I booked our tests. It is an optional field.

First page of the ST reports how poor behaviour of children has been this week. Lockdown being blamed , rather than parenting, natch.

As DH noted, no one was worried before....

Theres a thread about a concerned op her daughter is worried about the lack of social distancing. A poster doesn't agree the vi formers have to social distance and she is a vi form receptionist.

I’ve been lurking on here for a while, we’re back next week and I’m looking forward to seeing the kids and my department but pretty stressed overa, actually had a migraine yesterday for the first time in years!

Has anyone’s school or the unions said anything about pay if you have to isolate, or if you have to care for an isolating child. I’ve got a 4yo starting school and am worrying about how DH and I would split the childcare and if I’d be given paid or unpaid leave if anyone in her bubble is ill and we have to isolate her. Before this we’ve always split sick days with her evenly, and grandparents have stepped in but obviously with covid it’s all on us!

Elsa8 · 06/09/2020 09:33

Sorry, reading that back my English is fairly atrocious! Blush I blame the migraine! Hopefully you get the gist!

I can confirm you don't need your NHS number to book a test. That scratchy throat I had on Friday night and last night has become a new, persistent cough this morning... 😖

Keepdistance · 06/09/2020 10:14

Katherine fingers crossed it's not.

This is my concern about them ignoring the sore throat symptom as for me that is usually first. So seems a wasted opportunity for people to stay in.

That article 1 teacher confirmed had taken out 5/7 year groups...

Mn ignored my reporting posts and instead logged me out...

TheHoneyBadger · 06/09/2020 10:17

I think my school would give me a test if I needed it. I don’t drive and no other adult in my household so they may decide they’re better off giving me one than waiting on post. I presume the ten tests are replenished as they are used.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 10:18

I'm worried. My team are across year groups but we were together in a room for at least a day last week. If I'm positive and the whole lot of them need to isolate... What an absolute nightmare for our kids. I feel so guilty I'm not going to be in with them tomorrow.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 10:19

Oh god, and I saw my parents on Friday.

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2020 10:20

Katherine if you were together in a room with your team for at least a day and as a result they all need to isolate then maybe SLT will learn a lesson about the need to distance staff and not put them in those situations.

That sixth form SD thread makes me so sad. So many posters (well, actually one or two if I am reflecting) are so sneering about quieter more reflective teens. It touches a raw nerve to me because my DS is one who does not socialise/party / gather in groups and he is a lovely lovely boy and not a freak. I was very different at school : very sociable ,and might well have broken various SD rules. I think that makes my DS an all round better person!

He wasn't being deliberately careful out of some kind of covid anxiety : it is just the way he is. But it has its plus points as it kept people safer. And now school has basically circumvented all of that!

He has been masking up on the bus. He did say some aren't. He himself said he would sit as far away from those people as he can. So he is just a sensible chap.

DS1 is also a proper recluse. Not seen anyone since March! Only shows occasional signs of frustration. Back to uni next week. Out of my sight, out of mind...I am hoping his housemates will be a bit sensible because 3 of them are studying healthcare.

I get so furious about the 'young people have sacrificed so much' crap. they have their whole lives ahead of them. Why should older people and those with health conditions have to continue to lock themselves away and be isolated in care homes because some young people want to party? The government needs to be really carefully about its messaging here. I think there is a nasty core of young people (cf Melbourne yesterday) who have doubtful views on lots of things, who really don't give a shit if other people die.

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2020 10:22

Hah, Riga I hope my awe at her authority on this really shone through Grin

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 10:23

Someone on the A Level thread has a parents' evening next week!! FFS.

I need to find a link to the sociopath study. There is one named after a future monarch who just sounds utterly sociopathic. The name galls me anyway as it appears to be a sectarian reference.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 10:27

KOG, I hope you are OK, whether covid or another bug. Chances are it isn't, of course.

I agree that schools need to learn their lessons. We had three hours n one room on TD. We had to stay in the same room for cleaning. But then everyone had to join a big queue for tea and lunch.

I have been warned to stay away from a colleague because she vocally dismisses covid and says it's a big fuss over nothing.

This is so true.

I haven’t seen my mum since start of March as her care home is STILL in lockdown due to the numbers in her part of the West Mids being so high.

I posted yesterday about a local bar that was closed due to flouting SD measures and the landlord wrote a scathing twitter post about how SD was a load of crap and lots of people were joining him in with support.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 10:30

Thank you, @Piggywaspushed, yes I need to remember it could be nothing. My husband has anxiety so his reaction immediately made me more anxious too. Today was the first time in weeks we were going to meet friends, too, which would have been good for our mental health.

RigaBalsam · 06/09/2020 10:37

Just had my refund from my travel insurance. Out of the £895 spent to Ryanair. I got 378 back. Partly the excess , partly my own fault.

Great! Oh well at least work tomorrow.

RigaBalsam · 06/09/2020 10:40

Agree Piggy there certainly is a selfish core of people.

SaltyAndFresh · 06/09/2020 10:52

@Katherine hope you're feeling better soon.
