You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Offices though have
No windows that open
Air con
Lifts.
We were facing each other.

But yes i do think schools worse as
Effectively hot desking
Singing
Kids dont wash hands well or at all
Kids so they cant choose to drive in rather than pt
Out of school activities
Families so by nature often at least 4 people.
Parents usually 30+
Mix of people some of which follow no rules
Shouting
Touching each other
SEN kids
Lunches
Supervision
If kid ill have to wait for pick up.
Multiple people from same household on site so straight away maybe 2 cases

When sars1 happened my colleague was in hk. Bosses asked him not to come in. Whereas schools cant do that.

@Augustbreeze

Extremely worrying to read the number of people who can't access a test without driving 100s of miles, if at all at the moment.

This alone could close schools, if 4 staff in a primary are isolating while trying to access a test or waiting days for test results, never mind if any test positive or someone in their household does.

And goodness knows what the leadership of a school are doing giving one of the ten kits provided for probably vulnerable students for a teacher to use! (Think that was on the "New cough in a hotel room" thread)

I'm fairly sure the article I read about these tests said they could be given to any member of staff or student where it was likely that it would enable someone to be tested who otherwise wouldn't. I guess originally they were thinking for those without cars, but if there are no spaces nearby at test centres then it makes sense to supply them to a staff member.
NeurotrashWarrior · 06/09/2020 07:29

There's a post on the NEU fb group where a teacher can't get a test at the mo (been told to wait till 8am) but someone mentioned they were told by their HT that teachers will get priority access...? Anyone heard this?

Fuming at the mps demanding a test a day Angry

I haven't had one yet and need to work out how to book one!

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/09/2020 07:37

@MrsJuniper

Try sucking any throat thing that has glycerine in it during the day or even buy plain glycerine and add it to a warm drink, or just a teaspoon. Also tea spoons of honey when you can. Warm ribena always helps me too.

I agree re voice coach stuff but I wouldn't have a clue where to go; possibly some singing exercises would help? There are some fun ones you can do with class too. I seem to remember going through that as a young teacher actually.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/09/2020 07:37

Good luck, too!

School can apply for priority access for testing for a staff member, you would then get a code to put in here - test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/register/validate-code

I've had 2 tests through the regular system. I would only use the priority system if I couldn't get a test the normal way. The regular booking system is here and can be used by anyone with symptoms - www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

When booking it asks for your NHS number, everything else I needed I knew without having to look up (does also need your car registration number for the drive through).

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/09/2020 07:53

Thanks flag, that's really helpful. I had no idea about that.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 07:56

keep : also, adults naturally socially distance unless crowds force them not to , whereas younger people have less of a sense of personal space.

That said, I am bored of those posters who have moved on now in their MH arguments. Now the kids are back at school, they seem to think it is MH abuse to ask children to stay 1 metre apart, when it is human nature (at least in our culture) to want to do so! We have all seen this at conferences , on buses etc. No one goes and sits right next to someone when they have a choice.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 07:58

Where do you find out your NHS number??

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 07:59

I don't think anyone in my family knows theirs!

borntobequiet · 06/09/2020 08:10

Your NHS number should be on any written correspondence from your doctor, particularly regarding test results/hospital appointments. Of course the people least likely to know it are the chronically well.
I never understood why NHS and National Insurance numbers aren’t linked in some way eg NHS number allocated at birth/gaining citizenship and NI number either the same or a slight variation on that. I realise though that it would be a hideous job to change this retrospectively, and would involve IT, so would be a disaster if the government tried to do it.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 08:11

@Piggywaspushed Do you have access to an online system for your GP, like PatientAccess? Or it'll be on a hospital appointment letter. My husband is in the habit of photographing appointment letters when they arrive, just in case the actual letter then gets lost. So I always have a photo on my phone with my NHS no. on it!

minisoksmakehardwork · 06/09/2020 08:12

professor does during online lecture this popped up on my fb this morning. I know it was an online lesson and in Argentina, but it demonstrates some of the attitude many have towards teachers. It has now been picked up by uk newspapers.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 08:13

Oh my goodness, @borntobequiet, could you imagine what would happen if our current government tried to make that change? You'd end up with some people with no official number, others with 2, people would receive the wrong number in the post...

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 08:14

no, I am not on an online system, although DH is. Tbh, wherever I have needed an NHS number , it has always been one of those 'enter it is you know it' things.

I presume my GP would tell me it if I asked.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 08:16

Oh wow mini that's awful.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 08:16

Well, I wondered whether they would give it to you over the phone. You can't get in to the surgery here without an appointment.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 08:17

Hmmm.... better look through all my files at some point!

minisoksmakehardwork · 06/09/2020 08:17

Our nhs numbers are, as @KatherineOfGaunt says, on our online booking system. But I've also got them noted down in my diary these days to save logging in to the gp surgery system to find it. It's worth doing when you do find them.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/09/2020 08:17

@minisoksmakehardwork - That is such a sad story. That poor woman.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/09/2020 08:23

Oh gosh, poor woman Sad

It's concerning that there are a number of threads where people can't get tests.

EducatingArti · 06/09/2020 08:24

You don't need to know your NHS number to book a test. It asks for it if you know it, but isn't essential.

Flagsfiend · 06/09/2020 08:24

It does say enter if you know it. It's written on prescriptions and as I have a regular prescription I just get it off there. Not sure if you have to put different information in if you click I don't know it.
