You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@CallmeAngelina

I'm hoping Darwin's theory plays out for the 10,000 people out in the rain protesting about "masks are muzzles." Wonder if that's where 50 went. Or has she name-changed? We'll soon spot her though, if so.
There was a funny comment somewhere on FB earlier about these people going barefoot because surely they object to toe-muzzles too.
ohthegoats · 29/08/2020 22:44

The Icke thing. In any normal world he'd be in a padded cell somewhere, but no - due to stupidity or the lack of critical thinking applied, he's on stage shouting his opinions and being listened to.

Evening all. Signing in. Getting very scared now to be honest...

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 23:14

Have I ever mentioned my intellectual crush on Sam Freedman?

Used to work for Gove at the DfE.

Evening! Did ds' swab test this morning and courier picked it up. Wasn't a pleasant experience for him. Then went out into the real world with dd14 and spent lots of money. Had to buy a new school bag as had a laptop and bag at the last place but nothing from new school not even a timetable . Staying away from threads about school. Hope everyone is feeling calm/drunk tonight. Daffodil

ohthegoats · 29/08/2020 23:20

Sam Freedman was all about getting schools back in full back in May. His tune has changed quite a lot.

I've thought about school threads and teacher bashing opinions and have basically decided that people who do it are arseholes. If you cant imagine why it would be a scary prospect, and empathise with that, then you're missing something. I dont really care what sociopaths think about my feelings.

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 23:25

Omg Mike Cladingbowl used to be director of inspections at Ofsted.

I saw him talk at ResearchED back in the day and he started with ‘Yay! Ofsted!’ to a hall full of teachers, so I quite liked him.

This government do not seem to be trusted on schools by anyone.

I think that they are the ones that haven't got the balls to come into schools shouting the odds.

So they sit safely behind their keyboards being the warriors that they secretly believe themselves to be.

Its all very sad.

Was he? The good thing about him is that he posts his (usually astute) opinions and not ideology.

ohthegoats · 29/08/2020 23:34

Yes, he kept using one study form somewhere, cant remember details, that said children dont transmit and should be in school. It might have been earlier than May - too soon for me anyway, and not taking any school adults into account. I had to unfollow him.

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 23:49

Good to see he has changed his mind then. Wish other groups of people were also open to persuasion.

ohthegoats · 29/08/2020 23:55

I wonder whether they should be testing us all before we go back. Maybe kids too. I know that's a lot of tests, but it would be sensible.

Antibody tests would also be useful for school staff. So many of us were ill back in Feb/March.

FrippEnos · 29/08/2020 23:57

ohthegoats

I think it would be a sensible idea, to test everyone.

I would even go so far as not allowing those back that refuse to get tested.

CallmeAngelina · 30/08/2020 00:09

I wondered about that thread too, Fripp.

Mistressiggi · 30/08/2020 00:14

There's a lot of "masks are useless" folk around tonight. They appease the hysterical, apparently.

SaltyAndFresh · 30/08/2020 00:23

I've had a couple of very supportive emails from Dawn MN, by the way. She gets it.

If they stop someone coughing big gobs of phlegm into the air then that seems good.

I don’t know about the whole taking them off, putting them in a bag and then putting them back on again thing though.

But they got Trump to wear one.

Leading story on BBC about Unis:

A Department for Education spokesman said: "We are confident that universities are well prepared for the return of students by taking measures such as introducing social distancing on campus, limiting travel requirement for classes and staggering teaching across extended days to reduce numbers on site.
"Opening universities is a part of the Prime Minister's cautious roadmap, and it is important that we continue to open education settings wherever it is safe to do so.
"We support face to face teaching only where possible and if safety guidelines are followed, but know that high quality online teaching can also be delivered if necessary.
"We are keeping our guidance under constant review, and are currently updating our advice on reopening higher education buildings and campuses to reflect the latest public health advice, including on face coverings, local lockdowns and test and trace."

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 07:25

This university headlines come in the last full week a lot of students have before returning or going. It is incredibly manipulative to start releasing headlines about this now.

In other news, Gavin has written all parents an open letter (awww, that's nice, bless him). WHERE'S OUR LETTER, GAV??

That's all very well, it's the extra curricular stuff that's going to be the issue!

That's going to expedite his removal as leader. He was always going to go before the next election as his own popularity has been in the toilet for a while but if the backbenchers think that he's now going to cost them their seats, they'll call for a leadership challenge sooner.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 07:49

So fed up of hearing about the metal health pandemic. Under normal MN service, anyone who posted such stuff would be patronisingly told off for projecting.

I am sure the return to school will be blamed for anxiety and poor MH in a few weeks.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 07:50

I can't be arsed posting on that thread but she really needs to be told not to sue the word pandemic with mental health. Grr
