You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

People will think you're a Kinks fan, MrsHamlet!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 15:24

I have been thinking about the close pubs before schools lobby. Not only is that a miserable prospect but dot hey not understand that university is partly a social experience (OK,mainly!) and that students don't WANT to sacrifice all those things?

I also get that nor do teachers, parents, non parents. It's not a binary choice.

In the oh so beloved Sweden, one thing they never did was close pubs and shops down.

If people literally just go out to work/school come home and seal themselves up (usual life for me must say!) and have no weekend, THEN I really do think the nation's MH will suffer. I am aware I have said this before but the university thread is getting proper on my tits.

There's apparent talking about home schooling (I wish they'd drop that term) on the BBC who is also a teacher. I bet that'll go down well with the TBs!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 15:27

a parent.

She also did say that her DC's MH didn't really suffer. It was mainly hers : which I think is the rub on MN.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/08/2020 15:36

Agree on the pubs etc. Miserable existence particularly for single childless people.

I’ve just sent my first all staff email. I’m asking people to share any ideas they’ve had for brain breaks/mental state shifters that don’t require physical movement around the room or singing (neither good for covid yet all google comes up with).

Our kids are staying put whilst we move around so I’m trying to come up with stuff that wakes them up or gets them focused because sitting in the same chair for hours definitely doesn’t put me in a state of active learning.

Bit scared I’m going to be told off for taking initiative

Sleeping Lions!

Only half joking...

Ah, things were so simple in my childhood...

Dead fishes where I’m from. Ooh now there’s an idea lol

RigaBalsam · 30/08/2020 16:00

I am surprised there have not been any threads about Robert Halfon's '50 50' comment.

There is time though I guess.

The 50 :50 doesn't seem to have made the broadcast news, so I think we are saved by 'universities are the new care homes' today.

borntobequiet · 30/08/2020 16:30

I do enjoy teaching the scheduling/timetabling/rotas bit of Functional Maths (though it seems to have dropped off the radar a bit recently). Learners often ask “is this Maths?”. I tell them it’s the bit of Maths most likely to mess their lives up if not done properly.
People do find it hard.

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2020 16:34

The Joe Wicks thread took an odd turn when it turned out a klaxon had been set off on another forum and a bunch of anti-Wicksers descended to nobble the vote and Joe-bash.

What is wrong with people?!

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2020 16:35

What’s the 50:50 comment?

FrippEnos · 30/08/2020 16:39

@noblegiraffe

What’s the 50:50 comment?
An MP has said that it is 50:50 as to whether exams will be cancelled next year.
Saucery · 30/08/2020 16:42

What is wrong with people?!

Stuck in.
Unemployed.
Peevish as fuck.
Natural trolls who just needed the time and excuse to piss people off on the internet.

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2020 16:47

Oh bloody hell. Who is guessing that if they scrap the exams they will immediately have a proposal with what to replace them?

And who is guessing it will be strung out and we will spend loads of time second-guessing and collecting evidence?

phlebasconsidered · 30/08/2020 16:50

Rearing my head to ask for pen recommendations. Our school just give us shitty green ballpoints and I usually use my adored 1978 gold parker fountain pen (kids LOVE being the one to fill it with ink, it's the squeeze up kind) but I don't want to wait for ink to dry now! Best nice ink style pen?

I use the energel ones and rate them. They survived all my scribbles all over lesson plans! I like that they are retractable rather than separate lid, and that you can buy replacement ink. www.ryman.co.uk/pentel-energel-xm-retractable-0-7mm Available cheaper from elsewhere probably.
ineedaholidaynow · 30/08/2020 16:58

But @noblegiraffe remember according to some posters we should have plans in place and should not complain if updated guidance is published late on a Friday night.

As there is a 50:50 chance of them not happening wouldn’t it be funny if someone sent out the guidance without proofreading like they did on Friday saying the exams will be going ahead and then realise half an hour later they meant to type ‘won’t’ instead of ‘will’

flumposie · 30/08/2020 17:02

Part timer here who has a battle every year with my timetable. One year it was looking so bad that the best option in the end was for me to teach lesson 1 , go home again/ in to town and return to teach lesson 5. This year is slightly better. It's stressful every year. Also I've had no information from school yet regarding anything: the format of inset a week on Monday, plans for the school day . Nothing. As a result I've done very little preparation apart from year 13 .

SaltyAndFresh · 30/08/2020 17:13

I've yet to find the perfect pen. I like Zebra, and Bic is the only decent biro. My DCs had scentos pens in a party bag which are really smooth!

Mistressiggi · 30/08/2020 17:21

We have tests booked now Shock

Ickabog · 30/08/2020 17:27

Back after a day of MN and news detox. I've seen family and spent the day trying to be normal, and trying not to think about September. Did I miss any important updates? I know it's a Sunday, but who knows when things are announced any more.

Frlrlrubert · 30/08/2020 17:32

Good luck!

I'm still waiting for my results (I know, I only posted it 48 hours ago, I'm impatient).
